Why phantasmagorian?

Phantasmagorian is a great discard outlet when you accidentally draw a combo piece that you need in your graveyard. Both Hermit Druid and Flash Hulk wins involve milling yourself and casting Dread Return. If you happen to draw the Dread Return, you can mill yourself anyway and discard it to return Phantasmagorian to your hand. The deck runs a high number of combo pieces so this happens frequently.

Some people choose to play Cabal Therapy instead though. Once you've milled yourself, you can sacrifice a creature to pay the Cabal Therapy's flashback cost targeting yourself. Cabal Therapy is better if you're concerned about the CMC of your deck for Ad Nausem, but I've found that Phantasmagorian just plays better.

Huh, seems legit. I was wondering because I'm trying to make a similar deck, Kalamari and Eggs!~exclaimed the deranged hermit and I kinda need some help on it.

Plus isn't Azami, Lady of Scrolls a better draw ability than hapless researcher? You can tap laboratory maniac and her to get around kill spells

Azami doesn't work with the Protean Hulk combos. Hapless Researcher's 1 CMC is very important.

Good point - I never considered getting Azami back through FlashHulk lines with Angel of Glory's rise.

I think I still prefer Hapless Researcher though because it's a 1 drop cantrip, discard outlet, and blocker. Azami seems better suited in decks with more Wizard synergies.

After plenty of testing with Muldrotha, the Gravetide I've decided to continuing to playing with Angel of Glory's Rise. I feel that it's better for metas with Sphere of Resistance and Rule of Law effects.

I'm also not a fan of how Sigi cut Auriok Salvagers from his list which removes the Bomber-man combo. I personally like this deck more when it threatens multiple redundant combos in the early turns. Even if that means playing a few dead cards.
