Redwall Abbey

The heroes of Redwall Abbey rise up to stand against their villainous vermin oppressors. This was one of my favorite fantasy series growing up and it even inspired me to write my own woodland creatures novel during grade school. I'm glad they've incorporated it into a MTG set!

There are two different strategic paths that can be taken depending on what's drawn. Either Voltron-Style commander buffs, protection, and damage. Or the Mouse Royal Guard - power up a handful of Mice rather than a huge army of tokens and value grind the opponent down.

Voltron-Style: Buff up Mabel with all the equips. Tutor for one equip enchantment, preferably Fighter Class, then Sunforger to have on-demand protection, or for ramp cards if needed. If possible swing with Flying or Unblockable, Trample, and Double Strike, and it will be easy to rack up 21 Commander damage if Mabel isn't removed quickly. Bank mana to protect Mabel with a Sunforger tutor cast.

Mouse Royal Guard: Play cheap cost Mice and buff them with things like Anduril, Narsil Reforged and Cathars' Crusade. Draw into more Mice and equips with Glimmer Lens, Escarpment Fortress, Folk Herofoil, Minas Tirith. Protect the Mouse Guards and board wipe enemy creatures and remove pesky enemy artifacts / enchants with Sunforger tutors.

Blacksmith's Talent, Fighter Class, Forge Anew, and Sigarda's Aid help mitigate equip costs. Looking at you Colossus Hammer.

Forge Anew + Resurrection Orb or Lightning Greaves = instant targeted protection for individual creatures during your turn. Sigarda's Aid also helps with redundancy here, although you'd pay the casting cost. Both enchantments can also be used when attacking after blockers are declared to instantly equip something super strong like Godsend or Colossus Hammer.

Sunforger gives access to any instant if equipped and floating / mana. Enlightened Tutor would be a must to tutor missing combo cards. Sunforger can also protect against board wipes with multiple instant options and big swings with Settle the Wreckage, or put big sudden pressure on with Akroma's Will. This could also be used defensively in a pinch.

Final Showdown also synergizes with the indestructible instant protects, Flawless Maneuver and Flare of Fortitude can even be cast for free or for 1 creature simultaneously to board wipe only enemy creatures. Plus the added bonus of being instant speed and tutorable from Sunforger. However you do have to pay the additional mana cost, so it would be at least 7 mana to activate Sunforger and add the board wipe cost. Still great to be able to instant tutor for it though.

Many creatures' Valiant effects can be triggered by other creatures and equips. Fighter Class level 2 makes most equips free. You only need one 0 cost equip to trigger all your creatures Valiant effects for free each turn. Lightning Greaves helps with redundancy here.

Umezawa's Jitte, Sword of Fire and Ice, Sword of Light and Shadow, Bloodforged Battle-Axe and Lifelink effects can trigger twice in one turn if the creature has Double Strike. The swords and axe can also trigger from Trample damage if blocked.

Fountainport token sacrifice / draw can come from Diamond Pick-Axe, The Reaver Cleaver, Bloodforged Battle-Axe, Jacked Rabbit, Warren Warleader, Bumbleflower's Sharepot (with bounces), or even Cragflame (with Mabel bounces if you're feeling spicy), or many Offspring effects.

Old combo: Nahiri's Resolve can blink any number of creatures / artifacts and trigger various effects. This would include Bumbleflower's Sharepot, Pre-War Formalwear, Tome of Legends, Cathars' Crusade, Sigarda's Aid, Ancestral Statue - this creature can also bounce Fighter Class and Forge Anew. Door of Destinies, Folk Herofoil, and Vanquisher's Banner can also benefit from Ancestral Statue mouse bounces. The blinks and bounces also act as a soft protection for valuable permanents against Sorceries.

The Tutors and Plea can be used to search for any enchantment to suit the situation. The most optimal order would be Plea for Guidance -> Fighter Class+Nahiri's Resolve -> Sunforger -> Enlightened Tutor -> Ancestral Statue -> bounce Fighter Class -> blink Ancestral Statue -> Profit

The sideboard for the deck is intended for use with Hexapod's Ban List in their casual high-power multiplayer games. Sol Ring and Enlightened Tutor are banned and to be replaced by the sideboard cards.

These Combos have been really fun to theory-craft and I'm looking forward to trying out the deck. Let me know if you have any suggestions! Thanks for reading

Updates Add

Swapped Ancestral Statue and Nahiri's Resolve for Anduril, Narsil Reforged and Open the Armory - even though I like the idea of the pseudo infinite bounce combo with Fighter Class, it's not very practical for the high cost and amount of combos pieces. So instead going to try for another equip tutor and a board buffer. The deck could use some more creatures, but I'm going to hold out till more Mice come out. Also swapped Pre-War Formalwear for Maul of the Skyclaves since the loss of bounces make the recursion not as good, and the deck is lacking Flying options. It's also Tutorable
