Seten, you can't use Hidden Strings on the same permanent. "...then you may tap or untap another target..."
October 18, 2013 3:05 p.m.
And you can't untap something that is already untapped... you will tap it
October 18, 2013 3:28 p.m.
@Seten & geneRator Sorry but your both wrong, to be clear here is a detailed explanation of "Untapping"(not really doing this) an untapped permanent.
Hidden Strings : quote: "what you're technically doing is (a) targeting the permanent you want (this is the ONLY decision you need to make on announcement) and (b) choosing to do nothing when it resolves. Choosing to untap it if it's already untapped is the one thing you can't do."
So you are wrong, you don't have to tap you own permanent, you can just choose to do nothing after targeting, which still triggers heroic, which is the key reason why the card is in this deck.
October 18, 2013 4:07 p.m.
@Seten what geneRator says about targeting different permanents is correct, it uses the keyword another in the text.
@J_Albor well its just common sense for magic, Obviously you wouldn't play him as the only creatures on the field, secondly you want to have a creature on the battlefield who is far stronger than anything your opponent has. making it impossible to deal with Elite Arcanist if there is a 7/7 Battlewise Hoplite on the field for example. If your opponent would to choose Elite Arcanist over priority in that instance, he/she would likely lose to the massive 7/7 with whatever on it. it also matters what you exile onto Elite Arcanist . If your playing against a player with allot of return to hands counters or kill spells, you would want to exile Gods Willing to provide constant protection to an instant or sorcery a player uses. Remember, the counters on your creature won't fall off :P

I_H8_U_M8Ah, thanks haha, I just didn't get it but now I do. I never used a deck that works with combos.
October 18, 2013 5:54 p.m.
I think u should add Guardian of the Gateless cuz it can block any # of creatures
October 18, 2013 6:02 p.m.
redben346 Guardian of the Gateless is too high cmc. won't ever see play.

although what can you say about Soldier of the Pantheon he's a more solid 1 drop than favored hoplite making him a better contender even without the heroic effect. Especially if you're better off targeting the battlewise hoplite and phalanx leader for your heroic effects. Just a suggestion, also, what's the rationale behind Artisan of Forms? :)
October 19, 2013 2:11 p.m.
@leatherface I need Favored Hoplite for many turn 3 wins. There are 5 Multicolored spells in this deck, Soldier of the Pantheon is not even close to as powerful as Favored Hoplite . Hes just more rare. yes he has protection from multicolored, but I need to get a counter every time I target him for him to have a purpose in this deck.
What would have been bad ass is if Soldier of the Pantheon had heroic for:Whenever you cast a spell that targets Soldier of the Pantheon , put a +1/+1 counter on Soldier of the Pantheon and Soldier of the Pantheon gains protection from multicolored spells until the end of turn.
As for Artisan of Forms have you ever played against a player who casts a Worldspine Wurm on turn 3 or 4 using Garruk, caller of beasts for example? after it enters with summoning sickness, play Artisan of Forms or if already played, target Artisan of Forms and swing with your (basically free) copy of Worldspine Wurm . Basically, Artisan of Forms is one of the most powerful clone spell in standard. I can continually make it change to whatever bigger creature you play.

leatherface Soldier of the Pantheon would actually be horrible for this deck. Yes, he is 2/1 instead of 1/2 but he has no way of pumping which is the point of this deck for aggro. He has protection from multicolored, but that won't stop a Doom Blade , or a Supreme Verdict . And gaining one life when they cast a multicolored spell is worthless in this deck. Overall bad card for an aggro deck that runs off of the heroic ability.
I_H8_U_M8 I love your deck, I was running a very similar one since pre-release, I was playing the combo of Favored Hoplite Phalanx Leader and Triton Tactics and was absolutely loving it, and made a deck based on it. It was very similar to this, but i love the idea of running the Elite Arcanist , and the Hidden Strings , i didn't even think about them when i was making my deck. I moved both of them in. I however LOVE the ordeals in the deck. Ordeal of Thassa and Ordeal of Heliod are both fantastic in this deck i find. Thassa, is a 2 cost divination, that also pumps my creatures by a minimum of 2/2. Heliod is great because of the life gain if my game goes anywhere past turn 5, though i do agree that maybe i should sideboard them instead since I won't always be needing that life much.
Sadly i haven't been able to run my deck at FNM at all since i've been doing other things friday nights, but i definitely plan on running it tonight at game day. Good luck to you with it as well!
Overall great deck, The version i made can be found here : Theros Heroic Aggro

Easy +1.
I played this today on Gameday and surprisingly placed 2nd. This was no easy feat due to the experience of the players and the quality of their decks, and considering I am still new to the game made this feel too surreal.
My only complaint: It almost feels there is a lack of creatures in the deck. It was more than once where I was left wanting after my opponent removes my first one or two creatures from play, and by the time I got around to finding another creature and gathering cards to start turning them into threats, the game is then out of reach. I oddly enough found both Artisan of Forms and Elite Arcanist both dead cards; I usually won fast enough where both would not be a factor, or useless or easily removed upon play. But I intend to take it to FNM next week to do some more tests.
Question: How do you feel about Precinct Captain and Zephyr Charge ?
October 19, 2013 4:50 p.m.
@AHeroNextDoor When playing against opponents who "removed my first one or two creatures" Did you after that game sideboard Azorius Charm , Swan Song or Render Silent for example?

Was wondering your opinion on a few things would you consider Lavinia of the Tenth in your deck and also what about Detention Sphere i am building a deck that has some similar charactoristics as yours but yours definatly seems stronger. I need to aquire more materials to improve mine. Would you consider Sphinx's Revelation sorry if any of this has been discussed in previous comments there are too many to sidt through to try to find relevant topics.

@I_H8_U_M8 I did sideboard in Render Silent at one point during a matchup with an Izzet Young Pyromancer /Guttersnipe Deck, but I did not draw the cards in my second and third game against it. In truth, I don't have all the cards for the prescribed sideboard, but even then the two instances this occurred I was tapped out (that one guy I swear had a starting hand of nothing but Shock and Mizzium Mortars ).
Regardless, I'm still fairly new to the game, and it will take some time for me to know when's the best time to play cards in certain situation. But I would be remiss to say that I took a little pleasure today quickly defeating a Junk Deck (I think that's what they call a White/Green/Black deck) worth (apparently) over $200, where I got most of my cards for $20. I say to you, sir, keep us the good work! I'll report back next Friday with results.

I put together a card drawing version of this deck, it plays very fast - Hoplite's Fortune
+1 for a fun and inexpensive deck!
October 19, 2013 7:43 p.m.
@AHeroNextDoor In that case, Swan Song , Triton Tactics , Azorius Charm and Gods Willing would have been your best friends against a very fast burn deck. you would want to always have 1 land saved to tap if possible in that situation to play one of those cards. Azorius Charm return Guttersnipe to hand when the player casts an instant, or Azorius Charm to return your own creature if that is the worst case. Azorius Charm for lifelink if it comes down to a couple life. Triton Tactics if shocking or using Mizzium Mortars on one of your creatures giving your creature +1/+4 when targeting it. and of course Gods Willing it can't be targeted and dealt damage. If you can't draw a couple of those then that's also the luck of the draw...
@Scopes I checked your version of the deck out, appreciate the deck link, I'm perfectly fine with that version of the deck since it is focused more on longevity. Your odds of getting a turn 3 win are severely reduced. That's my one argument. I have thought about using 2x Triton Fortune Hunter instead of 2x Daxos of Meletis for a while now (since I made this deck), It's just hard to break the human theme that I have going :P

I_H8_U_M8 @ featuring your deck again, it's at 96 points so that will probably attract a lot more people then when it was at 30! I am using this deck for fnm next Friday and I think it's incredible so I want more people to see it haha
October 19, 2013 10:19 p.m.
@J_Albor Awsome! I hope it wins you quite a bit of cards next Friday :P I unfortunately wasn't able to play at game day today with my deck :P School came first.

I have a couple questions regarding Hidden Strings .Can I use hidden strings to untap a creature with heroic that is already untapped?and if I use hidden strings to tap a creature then untap the same creature, if that creature has heroic does it get the heroic thing twice?
