LGS held a win a box this last fnm, went 4-1. Technically only 3-2 due to me not hearing the rules on draws, as on the last turn I had the ability to swing to make opponents life less than mine which would have let me win. Opponent mislead me and took his sketchy win to the next round.
Round 1 (2-0) - Mono Black/g - This was pretty fast. I managed to put out more attackers than he had removal for along with protecting the few times he used it. The one time he got a desecration demon out, I put my banishing light on it. Pack Rats were non issues as he had to chump block multiple times.
Round 2 (1-2) - U/W control - Longer games, Mostly had to ask permission for anything I played. Opponent put the 0/5 sheep and that just stalled my game bad both losses. Because of that he was able to ult his Jace's both game I lost, and beat me with my own cards.
Round 3 (2-1) - U/W control - Biggest difference was this guy had no sheep. The match I lost was due to the Archangel of Thune and a supreme verdict right before it came out. Definitely grindy games, but not unwinnable.
Round 4 (2-0) - Mono B/g - Just steamrolled him with a pumped up Soldier of the Pantheon first game. Second game, was a little slower, but I felt in control the entire match.
Round 5 (1-1-1) Naya Midrange - The end of this round will be a big mistake for me. First two games are very grindy. I won game 1 and lost game 2 to a boros reckoner pumped to a 7/7 trample, with double strike. Last match went to turns with me being the last to play. He had 4 multi-colored creatures with white, and I had a spear, SotP, Fabled hero with 1 counter, and 2 other creatures. Draw a god's willing last turn. He has no cards that can stop it. He's at 17 life, I'm at 9. I find that if I god's willing the hero with pro white, I can attack with him and my SotP for 13 dmg that he can't block to put him at 4. He asks If I have lethal, I say most I can do is 13 and then he extends his hand for the draw. I show him what I would have done and shake his hand. TO comes over and asks the result I say draw, and he says can't draw because it's a double elimination night. He asks who had the highest life total, which was my opponent, but would have been me if I knew the rules were different.
Overall, the deck is doing much better than when I first built it. Considering how good it was doing against Mono B, I'm pretty happy. Control matchups are probably the hardest due to their lifegain and supreme verdicts. Next focus is probably to just take out the blue in the deck and just run mono white and go from there.
