Supreme Verdict is a pain... Almost want to add 4x Sacred Foundry , 4x Steam Vents and 4x Boros Charm

...

But I have none of these cards in hands and that would be a bit over my budget just to counter 1 card :)

Tested Deck at FNM again and got third. I have the complete deck now. It runs very well and mostly consistent. I am quite impressed overall.

I sleeved up this deck and I plan to run it at FNM soon, but I gotta be honest, the small land base unnerves even a longstanding magic player like me.

i actually put in 2 more land and took a couple of other things out. for me it ran much more smoothly with a lot less mulligans. do some test runs and adjust as you need is my advice! :-)

@Dawnsever & ragna Warning you both right now, you will lose matches for having more than 4 lands in a game. all the extra mana never gets used, no matter how much you try. 18 lands 2.1 on average per opening hand. is only 3.3% less land than 20 but it means more chances to draw answers / pumps instead of land.

That being said, yes you can get unlucky and draw only 1 land or none, depending on the hand though, you might want to consider keeping it if there is only 1 land.

Gl playing at fnm :).

I_H8_U_M8 i've been running the old version of this deck since you first came out with it as my main deck. love it by the way. :-)

my suggestions just come from running in my area's meta. sorry should have made that more clear. i run into quite a bit of direct damage and control, so if i don't have any extra mana on the field i get whacked pretty hard if i don't have the answers for it. actually, i might actually benefit from siding a few Mizzium Skin now that i think about it.

btw, i came in 3rd at FNM last week, going 2-0, 0-2, 2-0, 2-0, 0-2. it was great! thanks again for such a fun deck! :-)

2-0 vs. mono-green: they just couldn't keep up.

0-2 vs. orzhov: he won the whole tournament in the end.

2-0 vs. boros: this was a really fun matchup. cut it close both games

2-0 vs. mono-blue i think: again, they just couldn't get going fast enough

0-2 vs. mono-white splashing red: they were fast and i only drew 1 Aqueous Form both games. also, had pretty bad draw both games and still nearly beat him. :-)

Oh wow +1 for sure. I loved this deck when it first came out as pure heroic but the b of g update looks really good too.

I love playing this deck casually but have not had a lot of luck in tournaments, mostly due to lack of sideboard answers. ragna I like how you listed some of the matchups you have had, does anyone have any sideboard suggestions against specific decks that are common in the Standard circuit right meow?

Is Hero of Iroas really worth it to keep the cost down of Ordeal of Thassa ? Or were you just looking for a heroic 2/2 2 drop that had some kind of benefit, however small.

Just wondering if you tested any other creatures.

Thanks,

So, I decided to mainboard 3 Brave the Elements and a 4th Nivmagus Elemental , and a 4th Hero of Iroas over the 3 Phalanx Leader and 2 Fabled Hero , just messing with the deck, and it did rather well

2-0 vs R/G Monsters (absolutely destroys that deck imo)

0-2 vs Junk Reanimator (Voice Voice Voice Voice Whip Scoop)

1-2 vs Mono-Black aggro (Seriously, this guys kept a hand of 2 thoughtseizes and 3 duress(s), that hand attack, and then I stomped him, and the it was really close, but he drew better)

2-0 B/U Homebrew (I almost felt bad in this game, kept bioshifting every time he tried to hero's downfall my big guy, continuously adding counters.)

@phazedplasma he is in there as a 2/2 with a heroic with low color weight. The benifit of reducing aura is just nice to have. I have tested every heroic creature and I still am debating switching some of these creatures around. Its at a point where my own version is going through slight changes until I feel like I shouldnt touch it anymore.

What about Glimpse the Sun God ? It's instant speed that can trigger heroic or clear the way for an alpha strike. I've played a lot of the original version of the deck, but I think it might have a home in there.

Ended up playing in modern (no one else showed up for standard) and to my surprise it did well.

Ended 2-3 (10th/18), two of the defeats were 1-2 and pretty close from tipping in my favour, the other one was a one way massacre where I died in 3-4 turns both games

Retraction Helix & Triton Tactics were probably the cards that saved me the most

NinjaClaw says... #14

Do bestow get the reduced mana cost when cast? As it is an aura; while Hero of Iroas is on the battlefield? If so this would open up a few options possibly.

Renaud says... #15

@NinjaClaw It does

01/01/2014 Hero of Iroass first ability will apply if you cast a card for its bestow cost.

I had a lot of fun with Detention Sphere & Retraction Helix , either to exile a bigger threat, or destroy a legendary/planeswalker, and then re-exile it

This deck is fantastic, i've been playing with it lots, my only concern is your 3 turn win. When you swing with Nivmagus Elemental with Hidden Strings ciphered onto it, you can't cast '2 copies' it's only one copy for every time he deals combat damage.

As much as i would love there to be a turn 3 win, I can't manage to make one happen.

May 3, 2014 6:53 a.m.

EridanWwins says... #18

If you read carefully, you'll see that on Turn two, he in fact cast two Hidden Strings , and ciphered both onto the Nivmagus Elemental , so he would in fact get two copies when it deals damage because there are two of them ciphered on.

Is it worth to add Sage of Hours to this deck?

Any sidedoarding ideas for the current meta

I don't have the dual land cards. would it be better to use normal lands or add guildgates? ( and should normal land rate still be equal?)

playing this deck at FNM tonight (with a slightly different lands configuration). looking forward to it and will report back.

May 30, 2014 2:31 p.m.

ejunk says... #23

rouuuuuuugh. went 2-3. part of it was me not using mulligans correctly (I had a better system by the end of the night), part of it was insane, non-stop removal in my local meta, and part of it was the thin land-base. I side-boarded in 2 Brave the Elements as well as two extra lands and things improved considerably (dropped the ordeals). if you're interested, I'll post the deck list I settled on.

also, what is your opinion on replacing Hero of Iroas with Vanguard of Brimaz ? maybe adjust the sideboard to include hero of iroas along with ordeal of thassa. I feel like you just don't get much on hero of iroas' aura effect.

what about Launch the Fleet as a heroic trigger, also gets you tokens to overwhelm the opponent

After only running this deck against friends and extensively playtesting on here. Ive concluded that this deck is great. Monsters will get stomped every time. Aggro gets stomped everytime as does burn because you get your creatures out as fast as aggro does but yours are too buffed to be hurt by burn or small aggro creatures. Control is pretty even depending on how fast youre hitting them. The main decks i have a problem with is grixus, junk, and maybe orzhov becasue theyre completely based on removal. Flyers are hard to deal with so master of the feast will need an answer, but every deck is going to have its enemies. Ive been working on a heroic deck and i may just copy this one and try subbing Aqueous Form for retraction helix (unless against aggro and monsters). Thanks for making this though its a build ive never seen before and runs great. Will post comment n how it runs in tournaments.
