Yeah I had him in here but I find the new Ajani sooo much better cause if I am low on enchantments I can give something 3 1/1 counters or I can search for stuff I need. He was awesome though until the new ajani, mentor of heroes came out.
I really need something sideboard though now for those ghor clans!

you havent considered Eidolon of Countless Battles instead of Fiendslayer Paladin ? Gives a better boost and can be bestowed cheap.
June 24, 2014 7:39 a.m.
I thought about him but most generally I don't get many creatures and I tried Hero of Iroas and everyone removes him right away so I figure most people would do the same if i casted the Eidolon as a creature as well and four mana is kind of pushing it for a card to be a dependent in this deck. The only reason Ajani works is cause if i hit five mana usualy i am in trouble and he is the best answer. As for Fiendslayer Paladin he has protection from most removal spells people are running. Also he is great against the mono black match up.
June 24, 2014 8:16 a.m.
But lets say you start with a hand consisting of: Gladecover Scout , Eidolon of Countless Battles , Unflinching Courage , 2xEthereal Armor , 2xMana Confluence and the next two draws is lands.
Turn 1: Gladecover Scout
Turn 2: 2x Ethereal Armor > Attack for 5
Turn 3: Unflinching Courage or Gift of Orzhova > Attack for 9
Turn 4: Eidolon of Countless Battles > Attack for 15 with flying or trample
And even if they got creature removals, you Bestow the Eidolon on a hexproof creature..
June 24, 2014 8:44 a.m.
This is very true and it definitely works well. I am just not sold on it because the way its built now I win between turns 4-7 already and yes eidolon adds another possibility. The question is if I bestow him can he still be targeted by a spell that destroys a creature? Is he still considered a creature even though he is bestowed?
June 24, 2014 3:01 p.m.
chuck0715 no he is considered as an enchant if he is bestowed, so you cant doom blade him.
June 24, 2014 5:27 p.m.
That's cool then but still if I am forced to cast him as a creature he dies to those removal spells. At my local shop a lot of people run black and some other color or a couple mono blacks. Those match ups just worry me the most because the have devour flesh, thoughseize, brain maggot, and duress. Maybe I can try main board the eidolons and then side board fiendslayer in place of the ghor clans....
June 24, 2014 5:45 p.m.
Definitely Fiendslayer Paladin on the aggro matchups. Nothing makes a red player cry more than killing their creatures, gaining life, and not being able to kill it.
June 24, 2014 6:25 p.m.
Also, I don't know what decks give you trouble, but Chained to the Rocks may be able to get you out of some tough spots.
June 24, 2014 6:28 p.m.
Yeah I am going to sideboard two fiendslayer. Also I think my selesnya charm helps take care of anything minus stormbreath who I am not worried about anyway. That's why I am taking out ghor clans all together and just main boarding the charms.
June 24, 2014 9:17 p.m.
So I also put in 2 Fleecemane Lion in place of 2 Witchstalker .
June 25, 2014 3:55 a.m.
Banishing Light would give you anoyher ability to deal with Desecration Demon or Courser of Kruphix . Maybe drop Madcap Skills .
I'd consider Archangel of Thune instead of Eidolon of Countless Battles . Drop it to two and up your hexproof creatures.
Sylvan Caryatid over Bassara Tower Archer imo but most these changes I'm suggesting make you more midrange. If your meta dictates more Aggro I'd change to Ajani, Caller of the Pride and roll with it.
June 25, 2014 8:01 a.m.
The madcap is definitely an essential card it helps to end the game faster. As for Archangel of Thune here that could be interesting. Then for ajani caller of the pride I really don't need him he can get me that flying double strike early but other than that he isn't as good as the new ajani. Lastly I used to run caryatid but he just did not do much here. This deck is actually all about the combo. Play a hexproof creature combo him with enchantments and swing away with really nothing your opponent has threatening you.
June 25, 2014 8:16 a.m.
the whole naya hexproof theme needs to be consistent and fast, none of the pros run Mentor because he is too slow. I agree with this. you are much better off using Caller until rotation.

one thing. does chained to the rocks work if your not running a basic mountain?? i thought they didn't count.
July 7, 2014 7:14 p.m.
I just play tested today and it ran so much better with the changes. I went 6-0.

Chained to the Rocks doesn't seem to fit that well in this deck. Although it is powerful removal, its cost might be difficult to cast with only 8 mountains. Maybe Magma Jet or some other type of removal might be better since I feel like your deck might have problems in the aggro match up. Midrange and late game your enormous amounts of life gain should sustain you. Regardless, though, great deck and surprised it wasn't a meta.
July 10, 2014 12:07 a.m.
Actually you would be surprised how well the chained works! I haven't had many problems at all trying to cast it. The aggro I can throw in some more Fleecmanes lions in for the chained and skylashers. Over all this deck is so fun cause once your opponent figures out what they are playing they almost instantly know they are about to lose.

ive found a 1x of Xenagos, God of Revels
works quite nice when i play naya hexproof. its a bit heavy at 5, but its got the ability to impact the board right away that turn. also, while i love Unflinching Courage
and run it 4x in my selesnya setup, ive found myself liking the way Gift of Orzhova
sits a bit better on the naya hexproof creatures because of their tiny butts compared to selesnya's beefier Loxodon Smiter
et al. the evasion makes it alot harder for them to suicide a creature or a pair of creatures to block and take out an enchanted swinging lifelinking tower archers. you clearly dont want to be playing defense, and the flying works great getting an archers or a scout into a position to gouge out naya's lifelinking attrition wincon. maybe try switching the count with the courage to 2x courage, 4x gift, or at least 3x 3x. have you experimented with Godsend
? i could see a 1x potentially getting some work done. it is a bit slow as everyone knows, but with all those gladecover and tower archer little guys packed in there, i couldnt help but think one of them would look pretty scary sneaking around wielding that thing.
July 10, 2014 7:25 p.m.
id have to take it out for a serious spin to really know, but my only real main gun reaction to where this list could be soft is the 4x Gladecover Scout . i know its a great little creature, but without playing it, my gut says the creature roster is almost a bit light. games where you see 3x gladecover are going to be pretty rough probably. have you thought about pulling one off for another fleecemane? its an interesting trade because fleecemane is vulnerable to removal in the early game in ways gladecover and tower archers are not, but he can actually stand up to courser and can plow right through caryatid. since this is standard and you dont have access to Kessig Wolf Run or Skarrg, the Rage Pits , the rampager's trample granting can be pretty important, though again, my gut points to him as another place you might be able to come up with another pair fleecemanes, or even a walker.

Ajani, Caller of the Pride helps swing for lethal earlier with his minus ability.
