Planeswalker (2)

A Modern-ish deck for anywhere you can play a deck without buying it (Untap.in, for example). This deck can win (in spectacular fashion) on turn 4 or 5, although the games may get drawn out by you having to explain to most opponents why Doubling Season makes your 'Walkers enter with twice as many loyalty counters. This means you can use their ults as soon as they hit the field, so getting one down pretty much means you win, barring instant-speed planeswalker removal. Our best first Walkers are Jace, Architect of Thought , Samut, the Tested , or Ugin, the Spirit Dragon if any fun cards are in your hand already. Keep in mind that optimal ramp means this deck can play Ugin on turn 5, if the others aren't in your hand. Using these abilities, and maybe Tezzeret, Artifice Master , you can tutor your other Walkers, or if you've got what you want and are finishing the chain with Samut, you can fetch Emrakul, the Aeons Torn and It That Betrays for some fun, often game-ending, synergy. Not to mention that Jace, Cunning Castaway also goes infinite with Doubling Season .

The Dream Game (Barring Interaction)

A Few More Notes:

  • Rowan Kenrith is Legacy-legal, but not Modern. That said, I really like the idea of double ults. So she's in the sideboard, because that's what I call a sideboard.
  • The rest of the sideboard: Stuff I haven't played in this deck, yet thought it could use. Simic Charm , for example, will slow things down or protect your Walkers in slower games (ones w/out Doubling Season in your opening hand. Don't keep that hand). In my mind, this could be replaced by Heroic Intervention .
  • Worldspine Wurm for two simple reasons: The super-mill of lore, and the fact that it's a good big wurmy boi that's a lot of fun with Doubling Season .
  • Sorin, Grim Nemesis because who cares about color. It's 2019, people, come on.
  • If your play group's meta is a threat to Doubling Season 's survival, maybe work on that. Because this deck is screwed without it. If they run anything along the lines of hand-hate or Sorcerous Spyglass , you'll want to go down the dark path of counterspells (or something, IDK. Maybe you just scoop and start a new game with a deck one tenth the cost of this one that's way better. I guarantee that deck is less fun.)
  • I'm ranting at this point, but it's fun. Hopefully someone reads it, and have a great day if you do! (Also, feel free to give recommendations, as I'm sure this could be made way better)
  • In case anyone thinks this deck is supposed to be competitive because you clicked on the wrong link, it isn't. If you need proof, there's a nice blue bar off to the right.
