can't argue that - my main reason for suggesting the captain was to keep the potential Heliod devotion the same (2 whites for captain & fiendslayer).

Im not worried about Heliod becoming active, his abilities are enough for me, if he gets active, great, if not, not too big of a loss, and I may try the captain, but we will see :)

+1 from me. I like fiendslayer in this deck. He pays read the bones/thought seize life toll and controls the board early in the game until you get your finishers out. Plus he helps with heliods devotion.

I liked him too, but late game, a 2/2 first strike isn't doing me anything, and early game, turn 3 I was holding mana for removal, which had a bigger impact overall, so he didn't see play very often, I don't know, I just feel my curve is pretty tight with T2: Priest T3: Removal T4: Demon

What did you think of Angel of Serenity as a 1 or 2 of to be a finisher/add some recursion?

MyojiinOfCali says... #7

True. Removal or read the bones. Though he is without a doubt sb all star as hes rakdos nightmare :)As for angel. Yes yes yes. Though I have no idea what you should take out. maybe 2 gods willing for 2 her. She'd bring back all the creatures God's willing would've saved

I was thinking pulling the Fiendslayers to put her in, but im not sure I want her as a 2 of

I think having a one of anything, especially something as solid as AOS, is pointless. It'd be better doing 2 of something than of that and something else. IMO at least

If you have them, how about -2 fiend slayer, +1 blood baron +1 high priestAlso, i realize I'm being pretty demanding, but any chance you can take a second look at my deck? It as complete as it'll ever be, but i value omni path and yours opinion and would appreciate if you guys think i ought to make any last second adjustments =P

Yeah I don't have them, and plus I don't feel either of them should be 4 ofs, as is almost every game I see 2 Barons, so that is plenty, however I do want to pull the fiendslayers before FNM haha

Sure ill take a look man, it means a lot that you want my input haha

you have 3x devour flesh in sideboard and 2x devour flesh in mainboard. WHAAA-?

strateupjee says... #13

Fixed, I never actually put them in the sideboard due to needing 2 cards one night to play, so just left them MB xD

What do you think about my deck other than that slip up I had?

After a few hours of playtesting I found some cards to be lack luster, mainly Gods Willing , you have only 5 creatures in the deck that you really want to save that you can use them on, removal or more mainboard discard can usually do similar functions without having to be so specialized in one or two functions.

Another issue I noticed was that the deck felt threat light when against another slower deck, swapping gods might help this, there's also grey merchant which is currently popular.

It might also be worth adjusting your removal to better deal with mono black (and even your mirror match) as such decks overall are becoming more popular Dark Betrayal can be good in the sideboard and Ultimate Price hits quite a few more relevant threats than Doom Blade right now.

I also noticed a slight problem in that the deck has a tough time with non creature threats and gods, Merciless Eviction maybe a tad expensive, but it does a good job cleaning away gods or whatever is threatening at the time.

You can also easily splash blue and have access to spells like Supreme Verdict and Detention Sphere , this will also allow for the use of more scry lands.

Nice deck you've got so far. It looks like you want to play as a midrange deck, right?

If you want to go that route, I would take out Gods Willing , Blind Obedience , High Priest of Penance ,

Replace Read the Bones with Underworld Connections . I used to run the bones, but a friend pointed out that for a midrange build such as yourself, the consistent card draw is much more important. Plus, connections gives two devotion to black.

Thoughtseize is more of a meta call. I had 2x in MB, 2x in SB, but have moved them all to the SB. My meta is full of aggro decks, and if yours is too, then having seizes will hurt you more than help you, since you'll likely just be taking a burn spell against those decks.

Otherwise, your deck is pretty good so far. I would definitely find room for Lifebane Zombie s and maybe another whip or more kill spells. Whip essentially doubles your creatures, letting you reanimate Desecration Demon s for a 12-point life swing. This means that vs. other midrange and control decks, they have to deal with your creatures twice.

See my only problems with that are that to play a mid-range, I have to survive past turn 4, which without the high priests and blind obediences, a lot of times just won't happen, and I see where you are coming from with RtB, however I feel running then alongside each other is really strong card draw, because it gives me the option to draw quick or draw over time, and against different decks and different situations, I feel you need the versatility, but I may be wrong, I do have 1 more Connections and if Gray Merchant does make the deck, it may just have to happen where the 3rd Connections comes in for the devotion, and I also see what you mean about Thoughtseize MB, some games it just kills me, while others it is awesome, so it is a little hit or miss.

i think u should add Teysa, Potniff of Blight, and/or Angel of Serenity

November 2, 2013 7:48 p.m.

This looks pretty solid. There are a few things I would change though. First, I know Obzedat is a legend and hard to cast, but I would move him up to 2 or 3 copies. He's just so good at closing out games, and as a midrange deck you should be fine with 5-7 5 drops. Also, Lifebane Zombie is an amazing 3 drop. If nothing else he's a Gitaxian Probe without the card draw on a 3/1 stick with intimidate. I would also bump up Heliod, God of the Sun up to 3. Also, Pack Rat can take over games and gives you something to do with the extra legends in your hand. Probably 2 is the right number. And finally, the lifegain whip gives you is incredibly strong. I would move that up to 3.

So, for 2 more Obzedat, Ghost Council , 4 Lifebane Zombie , 1 more Heliod, God of the Sun , 1 more Whip of Erebos and 2 Pack Rat I would take out: 2 Gods Willing , 2 Blind Obedience , 3 High Priest of Penance , and 3 Read the Bones . Also, 1 more Temple of Silence in place of the guildgate.

Most of that is exactly where I want to be with this deck haha, I had 1 more Obzedat, but was borrowing him and the guy built Esper, so took him back, I don't know about more Heliod, I feel that once he is on the board, any more are just meh, however if I add pack rat, hell yeah! What do you think about Gray Merchant in this build? Also, why take out Read the Bones, and if I do, should I add 1 more Connections? I am going to try to trade this week and see if I cant get most of the stuff you noted

November 17, 2013 4:45 p.m.

I would say yes try to find room for a 3rd Underworld Connections . I was thinking getting rid of the bones just because there's only so many slots for cards in a deck and to me it's not worth a slot. I honestly don't like Gray Merchant of Asphodel in this build. He would't be draining for very much and that would require this deck to be built quite a bit differently.

Now how do you feel my boards look? because I was thinking moving Thoughtseize to the SB so that my aggro match up wont hurt as bad, and that would free up 2 spots for something else.

November 17, 2013 5:04 p.m.

It really depends on your meta. If there's a lot of aggro decks in your meta then Thoughtseize would probably be better side, if there's lots of midrange/control it would be better main. I think both boards are pretty good at the moment.

I just don't know what to expect at the Qualifier because it is way down the road and I have never played at an event down there, let alone one like this

November 18, 2013 9:43 p.m.

I think 2 Thoughtseize main like you have now is fine. It can help against Mono Black and Mono Blue by grabbing their bombs and it will give Esper Control pains. It only really hurts against Mono Red, White Weenie, Boros Aggro, and those aren't very popular archetypes at the moment.
