Hofri, Ghosts of Your Friends

Commander / EDH RW (Boros) Sacrifice

So the idea here is that I want to ultimately take advantage of Hofri's second ability to create tokens of creatures on the battlefield, but the secret is that while I have a handful of critters that this deck wants to run, I generally want to fill my board...with your creatures. The only problem with Red thievery effects is that the effect generally only lasts until the end of the turn and then I give the creature back... So while it's nice to hit you in the face with your own creature, it's just not great for me if I have to give it back and let you hit me in the face on your next turn. However, thanks to the addition of White to Hofri's color scheme, I can combine the enjoyment of Red thievery effects with the joy of having access to White, along with Red, sacrificial effects to take your creature and put it under my control and get the most value out of it. If it doesn't happen to die during combat, that's not a problem! There are numerous sacrifice outlets in the deck to either draw cards, protect creatures or just provide other fun triggers from the death of your creature. So, not only do I steal your creature and hit you in the face with it, I then force you to watch as it gets sacrificed or I Fling back into your face and the very soul of your creature gets torn from it's lifeless body to be reformed on the battlefield under my control. All in all, should be a good time.

Now, this means that Hofri is going to have a pretty big target on his head, so it's going to be critical to keep him alive. The creatures in the deck are designed to either steal my opponents creatures, provide powerful ETB triggers or just provide extra power to help shield Hofri from combat. There is also a protection suite to give Hofri and my board from board wipes and removal. Sunforger works double duty in this deck as both a powerful attack buff, especially on a flying creature, but also gives me instant access to some of my instant protection spells. I think I need to find room for Teferi's Protection in here too.

Just for fun, as an alternate win con the games where Hofri can't stay out on the battlefield, there is the combo of Altar of Dementia + Karmic Guide + Reveillark to infinitely mill out everyone as payback.

Updates Add

This deck is still hilarious and obnoxious. My opponents hate it and immediately target Hofri the second he comes out to play. I think I need some more mana rocks, but so far I have a couple extra new cards to add in and swap out.

I'm swapping Stolen Strategy because it made my opponents angry and target me until I was either dead, or they removed that enchantment. While it was nice to use as a soft target for removal spells versus some of my more devastating cards, I don't think it was doing enough work. The same is also true for Doomed Traveler. He's a great card, and a fun one drop, and there is nothing more satisfying than him dying with Hofri on the field to get a buffed spirit and another buffed copy of Doomed Traveler. I don't know that I will leave this card out of the deck because the value is insane with Hofri on the field, and it only gets crazier with cards like Anointed Procession on the field. I'm removing Order / Chaos because I felt this was underperforming as well. It was a very expensive and specific removal card, or a dud card in hand waiting to actually assemble a large enough board state to prevent my opponents from being able to block. Since I'm stealing their creatures to empty their boards, or swing at creatures they want to save, I don't typically run into the issue of needing my opponents to be unable to block. I'm also removing Worthy Cause, as I feel I have one or two too many sacrifice effects. I know I need redundancy, but I felt I was flooding on my sac outlets sometimes. Will keep close by as a safety precaution.

The cards I'm adding in are mostly just for extra redundancy in my protection. Again, Hofri has a huge target, so I have to be able to keep him on the field. The cards I'm putting in are Flawless Maneuver because I the goal is to cast it for free. I'm also adding in Clever Concealment to add extra phasing for my board state in the case of wipes. I don't typically attack with Hofri, and I should usually have at least one untapped creature if Hofri is on the field with a spirit copy of a dead creature, so ideally this spell should typically only cost two white mana. I'm adding in Skrelv, Defector Mite as extra hexproof, especially since I can pay that cost using the phyrexian mana if need be. Just more protection for Hofri. Also, last but not least, for the extra salty layer of salt (because I pulled her, and because she'll actually be very powerful in here), I'm including Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines. Double my etb triggers and none of my opponents? Yes, please
