Yo thanks a million @King_marchesa!
I always liked those combos that involve generically useful cards because they're the easiest to include. Amazing stuff!

Hi there (again)
Looking at your brew, and the last updates, I'm wondering if Living Death still has a place in this deck. Do you have a specific reason to keep this in place of so many other good cards I see in your Maybeboard (or suggested here in the comments)??
Another thing, I run a ram through (probably meta choice) and a Viscera Seer in my Hogaak. I feel we have a lot of opportunities to make plays where a sac outlet is missing, and the seer felt good enough as it will dig our pieces. Have you felt a need to another sac outlet before?
Thanks for your updates, you are the reason I play Hogaak :)

Hey welcome back Esgaio!
The main reason Living Death is in the deck, is because of the infinite combo with Eternal Witness and Phyrexian Altar. Additionally, its wrath/recursion potential makes it a playable card in general. At the end of the day, all the cards you see in the Maybeboard are suggestions that might be just as viable for you as the cards that you see in the main deck. Up to you whether or not they're better.
Oh yeah! I put Ram Through in for some time. I forget exactly why I took it out. Definitely not a bad card.
You know what, I have felt the need for another sac-outlet before. And out of all the options Viscera Seer is probably the best. I dunno, it's hard to juggle all these things together in one deck, but I'll try to find the space for it. Yo, great suggestion!
That's so nice, thank you! It's people like you who make me want to keep updating this thing.

Hello! I play varolz hulk and I love golgari so much. I had a hogaak deck in modern for the split second it was solid and Ive been looking for ways to make it happen in EDH. This deck is beautiful man.

Yo jonathan.lynd1121, thanks for the upvote!
I've never played modern, but yeah; I can imagine the kind of brokenness that was going on.
For me, Tormod, the Desecrator is a little fringe, because he's really good in the scenario when you're popping off and nobody does anything to you so you get to untap your zombies next turn, but in every other scenario he's meh. I'd say he's good in lower power metas with the Jarads and Izonis of the world (now that you mention it, I should probably add him into my Budget Version).

I appreciate the response! I was thinking of building this and making a slot for tormod or Underrealm Lich

Interesting. I've never really considered Underrealm Lich before, but now that I think about it, it's pretty good whenever we cast a Soul's Majesty effect on Hogaak.... Lemme put it in the Maybeboard.
Thanks again yo!

Hello! Fantastic deck list, first off! I'm wondering why there is no Golgari Grave-Troll or Stinkweed Imp in this list. I feel like they'd probably be a good inclusion. Just curious to hear your thoughts! Thanks :)

Hi 3n3rgy2, thanks for the suggestions!
There's no particular reason for why these dredgers aren't in the list. In fact, after thinking on it, I've decided to include Golgari Grave-Troll , as it pairs nicely with our discard package, and helps Hogaak's delve in the early-game. What I also like about it, is it can serve as a proxy for our Big Fella , and be that juicy Disciple of Bolas target when we have no other option.
Stinkweed Imp isn't so bad, but as of now, I'm unconvinced that it's utility is worth its slowness. Maybe you can convince me otherwise...?
Thanks again for taking a look at my list, and for your contribution!

Hey, thanks for the speedy reply!
I played a The Gitrog Monster land dredge-type deck and "the big 3" dredge creatures Golgari Grave-Troll , Stinkweed Imp and Golgari Thug had put in amazing work in the deck. Usually we only ever dredged with them. I figured i'd ask as we have many draw effects here within the hogaak list and figured it would put in some good work! I am building this and making some slight modifications, notably I feel like Worm Harvest would put in MASSIVE work in the list. For recursion sake and synergy I feel like Desecrated Tomb is worthy of a main deck slot.
I digress, Thank you for sharing your thoughts and list! Much appreciated! I look forward to terrorizing the playgroup with this list ;)

Hello Sueme, I am a Commander lover from China. Can I translate your article into Chinese to share your wonderful idea to Chinese Commander lovers?

Hi Carrick142857!
Oh wow! I'm not quite sure what to say. I can tell you that when I first started working on this deck, I never expected it to become an international phenomenon.
My deck is yours! You may absolutely translate this article.
Whenever you can, please send me the link to the translated version. I'm curious to see how it will be received.
Until then, happy brewing!

Hey AwesomeDude2471!
I took out Life from the Loam because it seemed sooomewhat narrow (has an infinite combo with Bone Miser + Discard Outlet), but it's still playable. I've found that Rishkar's Expertise is just too slow, and has the downside of being green (can't be easily cast off Bone Miser or Sacrifice). Ad Nauseam costs less, is black, and can be cast at instant speed (a virtue that I have been neglecting for too long).
Just took out a Buried Alive for K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth; turns out, casting Hogaak for delve + life makes things a lot easier.
Hmm. Would you enlighten me on combos that Fain provides?
Daemogoth Titan is definitely a good Berserk/Greater Good target. I'm not so sure it's necessary though, Hogaak being our commander (in fact, I'm might take out Rotting Regisaur).
Incarnation Technique seems like good tech, especially for the slower metas. I'd probably add Reanimate first, though.
Necrotic Wound might be good in other builds, but I find that my particular build doesn't have a lot of cards in the yard at any moment in time (unless I'm going off).
Thanks for stopping by!

Welcome back Carrick142857!
The article is great! Some of the translations (political references) just made my day, they were so funny.
I also appreciate the thoughtfulness that went behind this, like getting my permission to translate, and referencing this page in the translation.
Thanks for sending the link, and I hope the article does well!

Suame, thanks for for your permission of translation. And I also have some questions, when I first read your article, I find u use Golgari Grave-troll, Soldevi Adnate, Three visits, metamorphosis and hermit druid. I wonder why they are removed from the deck, because they are all pretty good I think.
September 29, 2021 11:49 p.m.
Hey Carrick142857,
I'd say at this point, a lot of these kinds of decisions go down to personal preference, as well as your local meta. For example, I could easily see myself replacing Willow Geist with Soldevi Adnate. However, I do notice a general theme with the cards you listed (I forget; did I use Three Visits at some point?), which is that they're somewhat slow. I've also found the creature restriction on Metamorphosis a bit too restricting.
...
Alright, I think I'm replacing Willow Geist with Adnate, haha.

Have you considered Avoid Fate for additional protection against interruptions during your combo turn?
January 21, 2022 12:52 p.m.
I like that! I think I'll take out Kodama, since it's a card that makes you win more, as opposed to a card that makes you win...
I think instead of Avoid Fate, however, I'd go with Autumn's Veil.
Thanks for the contribution!

Not to beat a dead horse, but I have just come back to say that I have been playing EDH for 10 years... And Hogaak in any form is the best thing a good golgari fan can do for themselves. I actually found this deck 2 years ago almost to the day, and it always comes through in the fun department. I literally have a queue in my friend group for who gets to play it when we get together. Personally I have found the raza pod combo to be fun just for value, however you can get it pretty quickly in this deck and it may not be fun at some casual tables.
Thank you so much for this deck! Highly recommended.
February 8, 2022 1:39 a.m.
Hey jonathan.lynd1121, that means a lot, thank you!
At this point I can barely remember the time I first submitted the deck. What I do remember, is seeing Hogaak being spoiled for the first time, and being very confused XD.
I think it's this confusion that makes this deck so special for me; when you take your first look at this card, you don't know, a. how it works, and b. what you're supposed to do with it. It was a wild ride figuring that out, and it's kinda crazy to think back.

Nice deck!!
You can add Unearth which goes infinite with Eternal Witness and Phyrexian Altar. Once you get infinite death//ETB triggers you can use Pitiless Plunderer to get infinite mana. Unearth also is just a decent card, it reanimates 22 out of the 29 creatures in your deck and can cycle for two colorless mana.
