While Hogaak is undoubtedly the scourge of the Modern format at this time, I think it can be a fantastic commander as well. It's unique casting requirements and ability to be cast from your graveyard heavily encourages you to play Dredge cards, such as another Golgari card that was busted in Modern: Golgari Grave-Troll . But since Delve can only generate colorless mana Hogaak necessarily needs at least two creatures on the battlefield to pay its 2 G/B. Consequently the deck features token generators to help rocket out Hogaak, with Korozda Guildmage being an all-star that allows you to sac a large creature (or Hogaak itself) and create a large army of saprolings for the low cost of 4 mana! As Hogaak can easily be sac'd and brought back from the graveyard once you get a good Dredge engine going the deck features several sac outlets to abuse this, most notably Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord .

In addition to being a strong sac outlet, Jarad also scales with the number of creature cards in our graveyard and can be a solid beater in his own right (one that can recur himself if you wish to sac the land for it). He can even end up being a win con by himself if you manage to sac a massive Lord of Extinction or Nighthowler . In the event that you end up Dredging Jarad or another valuable card the deck also features some recursion in the form of cards including Eternal Witness , and graveyard hate with Scavenging Ooze and Deathrite Shaman in the event an opponent tries to rob your graveyard or has the nerve to play a graveyard-centric deck as well.

The deck gets crippled by graveyard hate, as a lot of decks do. Thankfully there is good removal to be had for creatures, artifacts, and enchantments within this color combination, so it's not the end of the world if an opponent manages to resolve some sort of permanent to hinder your access to your graveyard (such as Ground Seal ). I also threw in a good number of cycle lands as this deck gets the added bonus of being able to Delve away these lands to cast Hogaak. For much the same reason there are a few small creatures with ramp effects stapled to them (such as Sakura-Tribe Elder ) in the deck. I'll do my best to update this if newer sets introduce cards with excellent synergy to the deck's theme, as well as any good suggestions I receive.
