This deck is a fresh and cheaper (<500$ vs >1000$ of the mainstream one) take on Hollow One. The strategy is to quickly deploy a large number of medium size threats to close the game. Even if it can be considered a graveyard deck, it doesn't suffer graveyard hate as much.

The Threats

  • Hollow One can often be cast for free and is a significant presence on the board
  • Flameblade Adept has evasion and it benefits from the massive discard action this deck wants to do
  • Bloodghast is meant to be discarded and returned from the graveyard. The recursive nature makes it an annoyance for the opponent
  • Prized Amalgam is another, bigger, recursive threat. I can be returned triggered by Bloodghast or any of the "Unearth" creatures
  • Hellspark Elemental is an efficient way to deal fast damage to the opponent and trigger Prized Amalgam
  • Scourge Devil is a finisher more than anything else, it's intended to be cast for 3 mana just before the final alpha strike
  • Bloodrage Brawler very high power for the mana cost, the discard is a plus in this deck and as it's not an additional cost you are still free to cast it when empty handed

The Enablers

  • Goblin Lore and Burning Inquiry let you turn over your deck, fill your graveyard, pump Flameblade Adept and cast Hollow One for free. The Inquiry is also excellent to disrupt combo hands of the opponent
  • Faithless Looting and Izzet Charm allow you to chose what to discard and they both have upsides with looting being cast from the graveyard and charm being used as removal or protection from tricks

The Lands

The Sideboard

  • Slagstorm is a great way to deal with creatures match-ups as most of your creatures either survive the storm or quickly return from the graveyard to the battlefield leaving your board state barely changed. I preferred this over Sweltering Suns just for the ability to be used as a bolt in your opponent face to close out the game.
  • Eternal Scourge is great against control as they will often deploy graveyard exile, while generally inefficient, it is super effective in drain your opponent of resources in the late game
  • Damping Sphere is more a hate card for Storm than Tron, keeps the combo under control
  • Ancient Grudge lets you get rid of nasty artifacts like Grafdigger's Cage and Relic of Progenitus. Against affinity or [lantern] is an absolute beast
  • Tormod's Crypt is to keep other graveyard decks in check without losing yours
  • Spellskite works great against decks like bogles or infect as it prevents targeted spells on them. Also efficient to redirect an Arcbound Ravager modular trigger or just stop burn. The blue splash allows you to play it without it becoming too painful

The experience

I playtested the deck extensively and it was surprisingly good. The only deck it's probably impossible to face against is Humans
