I like Crush of Tentacles more than Engulf the Shore as it bounces permanents instead of just creatures. I've played some control mirror match-ups where they were happy to stall out the game when they saw I was drawing like mad and would likely deck before them. If you're engulfing for any real value it's past turn six anyway, and getting an 8/8 octopus creature off crush is just gravy. food for thought and +1.

Looking forward to playing this after the release. Nice deck.

I'm sorry if this has already been mentioned, but Thing in the Ice Flip is really good. It has synergy w/ your gearhulk and doesn't affect your clues. Realistically, you should be able to flip in turn 5-7 (based on my past experience w/ running TINT in a counterspell deck) which is really good.

I believe wizards pulled up this list in front of their board of directors and said: "yep, Baral, Chief Of Nope" "yeah, uh, I saw this deck online... he needs to loot... not draw... or we need to make another emergency ban..."

I like your deck. You went all in in blue, and its a pay off with Engulf of the shore. Good work

I got Baral as my foil prerelease. If he got banned then I would be so mad.

I am trying this same thing. I actually like Baral, Chief of Compliance. He is a good blocker in this aggro format. The fact that Disallow and Void Shatter become Counterspell is amazing. If you really don't like him I would highly recommend Thing in the Ice Flip. He is an 0/4 for 2 and rewards you for all of your counter work. Personally I think the focus for control should be to stabilize the board early game or your going to get over ran, then, once at 3 mana have fun cause they ain't casting $h1t.

If your win condition is Mechanized Production, you probably want to play Confirm Suspicions

First of all, I want to say that the upvote was well-earned. This is an awesome deck. Secondly, I'd like to join the people who recommend Thing in the Ice Flip. Also, I think Baral, Chief of Compliance is really just...perfect for this deck. But, you know, it's your loss. I would drop the artifact synergy. It just doesn't seem right. If it works, keep it, but I'd use something else. Now I want to recommend looking at Blue-Red Control because Izzet is awesome. Again, awesome deck.

Rofl I love the name btw. Good deck ideas! I would love to see you put down a 1/1 thopter and just turn by turn hit him with it for the win. A card to consider Wharf Infiltrator.

How do you counter against the incredibly fast ago decks? Like, Bomat Courier or vehicles?

***How do you keep from running out of spells? I'm just afraid of this deck being able to slow down ago decks but not enough to keep from losing
February 2, 2017 12:42 p.m.
SpeedOfLightning, this deck is running 4 Glimmer of Genius and 4 Torrential Gearhulk which is quite a bit of card draw when combined fit free flashbacks. Add in the Trail of Evidence and each of your 25 instants generate clues. I'm not sure how much more card draw you are going to get out of a deck, but you could easily run a couple Jace, Unraveler of Secrets if you are that concerned.

This makes me so happy, I didn't get the Mechanized Production at first but then oh my god.

You should run some Dispel and Overwhelming Denial if they try to counter your counters early on.
February 13, 2017 11:05 a.m.
Instead of generating clues you could go for building up some energy with Dynavolt Tower. And if you mechanize the tower... oboy!

I would be embarrassed to play with this deck. Filling a deck with countermagic isn't clever or smart, it's boring and cheesy. It does win, though.

Control doesn't win you friends, it wins you games.
February 20, 2017 9:07 p.m. Edited.
Avatar.of.Slaughter it is hard to make a feasible countermagic deck. Add on top of that an unconventional win condition and you have an interesting deck.

Your deck is based around Baral, Chief of Compliance and needs to turn 4x of him to count for removal and consistency. It would also allow you to have a clear dump for Geier Reach Sanitarium if your opponent can't remove baral, so I'd drop 2x Aether Meltdown for 2x Baral, Chief of Compliance .
I'd replace 3x Compelling Deterrence with 2x Unsubstantiate and a Jace, Unraveler of Secrets since you'd be able to remove spells while they were on the stack as well as creatures on the field, possibly allowing you to return your own Torrential Gearhulk to then flash in the gearhulk on the field to use a counter spell or draw spell in your graveyard, and Jace is great mainboard. You also don't have a zombie to activate its other effect, making it worse. You can sideboard these, however.
I'd drop 1x Void Shatter main board and go with a Disallow as disallow also prevents triggered and activated abilities. It's absolutely crazy.
I don't think any of your enchantments should go in this deck as they don't do enough for what they cost as opposed to other cards.. I'd replace 3x Trail of Evidence with 3x Anticipate . 2x Mechanized Production should be dropped for 2x Thing in the Ice Flip, and 1x Torrential Gearhulk should be dropped for a thing in the ice.
Thing in the ice will flip, returning the gearhulks to your hand, allowing to use them more than just the once.
I'd also drop 1x Engulf the Shore for 1x Crush of Tentacles so you have the chance of removing all of their non-land permanents, not just creatures as well as getting an 8/8 Kraken.
We can gut the sideboard of counter spells that aren't going to change the game and spells you can use to change the game depending on how you're doing. This would leave you with 2x Ceremonious Rejection ,2x Compelling Deterrence , 1x Disallow , 3x Dispel , 1x Jace, Unraveler of Secrets , 2x Rise from the Tides , 2x Sphinx of the Final Word , 2x Summary Dismissal .
The total changes would look like this.
-2 Aether Meltdown Mainboard-2 Mechanized Production Mainboard-3 Compelling Deterrence Mainboard+3 Anticipate Mainboard-3 Trail of Evidence Mainboard-1 Engulf the Shore Mainboard+3 Unsubstantiate Mainboard+1 Jace, Unraveler of Secrets Mainboard-1 Torrential Gearhulk Mainboard+3 Thing in the Ice Flip Mainboard+2 Baral, Chief of Compliance Mainboard+1 Crush of Tentacles Mainboard+2 Compelling Deterrence Sideboard+1 Sphinx of the Final Word Sideboard+3 Dispel Sideboard-1 Negate Sideboard+2 Rise from the Tides Sideboard-1 Horribly Awry Sideboard-1 Westvale Abbey Maybeboard-1 Rise from the Tides Maybeboard-1 Thing in the Ice Maybeboard
What do you think?

I'm testing Baral and his Expertise in hopes of figuring out a good configuration and if either is a good fit in the main or sideboard. I think Mechanized Production is a good sideboard wincon for sure.
