Horrors of Life (Gisela, the Broken Blade)

Commander / EDH* Angels Casual Mono-White

This deck is a second iteration of my idea, mostly designed for 1v1 Commander, but can be used in regular EDH too. It still has a lot of filler cards in it, thus it's also far from completion. I would appreciate any suggestions that could improve this deck ;)

The idea of it is to blitz the opponent with Gisela, the Broken Blade, mostly by getting the 21 commader damage on them. Thanks to a lot of Lifelink in the deck, it is also possible to make use of Aetherflux Reservoir, and kill the opponent as soon as life total of this deck's user goes over 50. Additional life gains in this deck includes Luxa River Shrine, Blighted Steppe, Pariah + Wall of Essence , Victory's Herald, Angel of Renewal, Fumigate, Dazzling Reflection and Authority of the Consuls.

This deck being mono-white, Oketra's Monument makes playing this deck much easier. Created Warriors can also be used to get even more life, by using Rush of Battle.

An important part is to prevent getting damaged. There are plenty of cards to go with it, with most prominent combination being Guardian of the Gateless + Pariah + Ghostly Possesion. For as long as this creature with both enchancements stays on the battlefield, player is immortal, or at least, immune to combat damage. All problematic spells that either target the creature or player, can be prevented with ex. Aegis Angel, for noncombat damage, or Gods Willing for removal spells. There is also Djeru's Resolve and Ajani's Presence for more prevention of noncombat damage.

When it comes to opponent being faster, and getting stronger creatures on the field, you may try to slow him down with spells like Ghostly Prison, try to keep him tapped out for as long as possible with Gideon's Lawkeeper, Topplegeist, edifice of authority, Authority of the Consuls or Glaring Aegis. Other combat preventions would include Revoke Privileges, Caught in the Brights, Pacifism, Thopter Arrest or Suspension Field. There are also spells with sacrifice, destroy, and exile, in order, Celestial Flare, Skywhaler's Shot and Devouring Light. In worst case scenario, it's possible to also clear the table with Hallowed Burial or Fumigate. With the latter, you can preserve at least one of your creatures, by using Graceful Reprieve.

For more obvious cards that work together, of course, Bruna, the Fading Light + Gisela, the Broken Blade , for ultra fast commander damage if both manage to hit the board. Insta-win scenario would include Battle Mastery + Brisela, Voice of Nightmares + Gideon, Martial Paragon . Gideon's last ability would mean that your Brisela knocks the opponent out with 1 hit. The damage can also be buffed by Tandem Tactics or Zealous Strike.

The other creatures in the deck are playing mostly a filler role, such as Glory-Bound Initiate + Herald of Dromoka , or extra destroy with Hidden Dragonslayer. Enchancements can be fetched from library and graveyard by using Heliod's Pilgrim, card:Lotus-Eye Mythics or Ironclad Slayer. Those creatures, and Urbis Protector can benefit from Aviary Mechanic, Vizier of Deferment, or Wispweaver Angel, to activate their effects again. This deck also features Seraph of the Suns. Phalanx Leader, Ainok Bond-Kin and Ninth Bridge Patrol are "+1/+1 counter creatures".

That's about all for the strategy in this deck. Once again, I would appreciate any feedback :)
