Houndish Hordes of Alex

Unformat WB (Orzhov)

My wife has dabbled with MTG in the past mainly because she needs to feel some connection to what she is playing with and wasn't really a fan of any archetypes (eg: Cats, Mill, etc). She has always said that she would try again if she could play with dogs but until Core 21 & Jumpstart (along with the recent official dog/hound retcon) there just wasn't anything she liked. I showed her the new sets and she agreed to try it so I built one. This is version 2.0.

Initially, the deck focused on cheap creatures you build up with counters but I ran into issues when my big guys would be removed or incapacitated and with just needing to draw more cards. Instead of counters I went with passive buffs via Icon of Ancestry and Pack Leader with also bring their own awesomeness in letting me keep drawing or by giving my whole army indestructible when it attacks. I toyed with several iteration between then and now and one thing I so much wanted was to be able to skirt the Legend rule with Mutate to fill the field with Kunoros, Hound of Athreos and Isamaru, Hound of Konda but alas while there are some fantastic options I am a stickler for sticking on-theme so if it isn't a Dog its out.

Lastly, we have the absolutely silly Dauthi Jackal. There are better, newer, more synergistic cards in standard but one of my good buddies has a shadow deck he loves to play with and while it would probably be better just to sideboard it for something more broadly applicable it DOES give me a nigh unblockable attacker with a 2-cost removal of a blocking creature. Basically, its not the worst thing out there and it lets me give a buddy a taste of his own shadow!
