A version of my modern Hatebears / Death + Taxes deck that splashes black for some added versatility and more disruption.
Tidehollow Sculler is the main reason you would want to splash black, and it's totally worth it. The early game disruption this guy brings is fantastic, even if only to force an opponent to waste a removal spell. Additionally, knowing an opponent's hand is always advantageous.
The next reason for black is Dark Confidant, which keeps you with a solid card advantage, and prevents you from running out of gas as the game progresses. Since the curve here stops at 4cmc, the life loos should be totally fine.
Other bonuses in black: Athreos, God of Passage, to make removal and combat less effective for your opponents; High Priest of Penance, which makes combat extremely annoying for out opponents; Zealous Persecution, another combat trick; Shizo, Death's Storehouse, to punch through with Thalia, Brimaz and potentially Athreos.
Other than that, most elements are pretty similar to a regular Modern Death and Taxes list, except for the lack of Aven Mindcensor, which I opted to leave out for the black cards, and separate it a bit more from the regular mono W builds.
Any feedback is welcome! Thank you.
