scare983-

Interesting... Really interesting.

One reason I'm a little concerned about Utvara Hellkite is that it could sit dead in hand. I wouldn't really want it just there with no way to get it out if something like Slaughter Games hits a Lotleth Troll or all my ways to cheat it out get removed somehow.

But the Giant Adephage - I've been looking for a way to get rid of Shadowborn Demon - I didn't think it was that strong, so I'm gonna accept your suggestion and play around with that one. A lot. A whole lot. The only reason it's not going in immediately is because it is useless if blocked or removed before combat (and yes, I just said that occasionally, a free 7 life is useless).

i understand what you are talking about. However, you do have Sylvan Caryatid which could ultimately help cast the Utvara Hellkite . In fact a lot of times when I was playing reanimation I could cast it alone, but yes it is a big risk. As for the Giant Adephage , remember, it will have haste when using the whip, and it also has trample. Even if blocked by a chump blocker, damage will hit the opponent, thus activating the copy ability. The copy also has the same abilities as the original, so the tokens get bigger and bigger even if the original Giant Adephage was exiled. However, take your time, your deck, your choice. Pick what ever is most fun :D

I did try playtesting a bunch today. Unfortunately, I never drew the adephage, and when I did I had a 2-lander with terrible colors and I had to mull :(. Yes, the caryatid can help with the hellkite, but its rare to get more than one at a time. Though that shaman helps...

I'm still trying to playtest and get adephage. Thanks for all your help!

I drew Giant Adephage finally. Still, not sold, but not entirely disappointed either. I'll keep trying.

I have a deck similar to this one.

When in Doubt Whip it Out

The problem I was having with my deck was in the early game. So I added Experiment One to better support myself against aggro in the early game. I also have Desecration Demon in case I need to by myself some more time to get out a whip. But overall your deck looks pretty good. +1

Another idea to put things in your graveyard could be Pack Rat .And you may need more draw. Maybe Read the Bones ?

i share opinions with scare983 i added green one to my deck might consider the dragon as those creatures are int the deck cause of their extra abilitys regardless of mana cost,ty whip :) + the token stays thats a big +

@AztecMagic- that's what I was missing! Duh! Pack Rat is so obvious! Definitely going to add that (as soon as my super annoying sister lets me use the computer). As for Read the Bones , in this deck, some card advantage is missed, but not much because this doesn't play a lot early game and the entire graveyard becomes my hand once deathrite or whip are out.

@raaymakers- now that I'm gonna include pack rat, the hell kite might not be so bad. I'm still very cautious about it.

I think that as soon as I can, I'm gonna make some big adjustments here and create version 2.0! Thanks to everybody.

whats the point of this deck?

January 27, 2014 4:41 p.m.

flyguy says... #11

@lukehawk2222- this isn't really competitive, but the point is to get fatties into the graveyard (such as Sylvan Primordial , Giant Adephage , Angel of Serenity , or Ashen Rider via Grisly Salvage , Jarad's Orders Commune with the Gods , Lotleth Troll , and Pack Rat . Reanimate them and use their "enters the battlefield" goodies via Whip of Erebos , Obzedat's Aid , Angel of Serenity .

It is actually pretty fun and isn't bad.

Don't think so. I don't really remember, but junk reanimator might have been a thing in innistrad/rtr. I haven't really seen this anywhere other than 2 decks named "when in doubt, whip it out" here on this site. Thanks for the support!

Thanks for the +1, as well

January 27, 2014 5:06 p.m.

and like that junk reanimation is a thing again. +1
have you thought about the new tribute creatures from born of the gods?

January 28, 2014 5:59 p.m.

flyguy says... #16

@JustMeHunter- Thats an interesting thought. Some tributers might work (thinking of nessian wild ravager). I'll play around with that. Also, I didn't quite get that upvote. Would you mind trying again?

January 28, 2014 6:04 p.m.

lol, i forgot to press it after commenting >.<
but yeah ravager and that one that destroys a non creature perm is pretty sweet.
I might make a list of my own for Junk reanimater. I'll be sure to site you on it.

flyguy says... #18

Thanks. What's that one that destroys a non-creature perm?

January 28, 2014 6:15 p.m.

also perhaps Champion of Stray Souls , its a long shot but i really like this card (maybe because Im an EDH player)

January 28, 2014 6:20 p.m.

the non creature perm is Nessian Demolok

January 28, 2014 6:23 p.m.

flyguy says... #21

Possible. I'll definitely add him to the maybe. He seems kind of prone to a Mizzium Mortars , and I don't think I'll have a great amount of food for him to reanimate guys. But I'll play with him.

Are the Whips and Obzedat's Aid enough recursion to reliably bring creatures back? I've thought about making this kinda deck and you've got six between those to bring things out, is that all you need?

January 29, 2014 10:12 p.m.

flyguy says... #23

@PrecintSix6Six- Some things to think about if you do make this deck:

I've found that it kind of is. The whips are drawn with good frequency and obzedats aids can return whips, too. I used to run Rescue from the Underworld , too, which was super good, but I just ran out of room. Also, Commune with the Gods can find whips.

Thanks for the vote! Good luck on your deck.

Hickorysbane says... #24

Thanks! it never occured to me that you can psuedo-tutor the whips out or bring them back, also is it worth it to run a Chromanticore or some other off color threat to try and reanimate?

January 29, 2014 10:54 p.m.

flyguy says... #25

Meh. I'm still going back and forth on Utvara Hellkite , but one off-color threat would probably be enough for me (the old conversation on that was long.) As for Chromanticore or a 5-color threat, meh. None of the abilities on it are actually worthwhile if you think about it. It could be aided, but is in general underwhelming.

Back to everyone else, I think we might have found our answer to Stormbreath Dragon in Utvara Hellkite
