Sweet, I was looking for a new Orzhov Commander deck, and I think I found one! I already have a lot of the card here too!

What would you suggest for upgrades to the deck if you come into a little extra cash?

Sweet deck! Never played commander,but thougt i give it a shot. Think i will go for something like this. Same question as cpu_10, because i have a lot of the cards :)

Here are some upgrades that could be made,

Unbudgetizing the manabase, playing cards like Godless Shrine to help increase consistency in mana.

Karlov of the Ghost Council over Ajani's Pridemate.

Rhox Faithmender and/or Alhammarret's Archive should have a place somewhere, likely over Blood Tithe and/or Debt to the Deathless.

Athreos, God of Passage, likely over Souls of the Faultless.

Serra Ascendant can easily find a place in this build.

Other options that I don't know what to replace with are Ravos, Soultender, Sheoldred, Whispering One, Noxious Gearhulk, Enlightened Tutor, Demonic Tutor, Vampiric Tutor, Debtors' Knell, Sorin Markov, and Liliana Vess.

You could also play Vault of the Archangel, Shambling Vent, Westvale Abbey  ^Flip, Strip Mine, Maze of Ith, Emeria, The Sky Ruin, the list goes on.

Fantastic decklist. My only recommendations would be to swap Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts in as the commander. As expensive as she is to cast, she becomes an absolute wall, and if you have Whip of Erebos on the field she becomes unblockable life gain. Her or Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim.

I'd also say that the deck would benefit from Diabolic Tutor as well.

I don't think you need Consulate Crackdown (as good as it is) unless your playgroup is very artifact heavy. Swap in Debtors' Knell or Sheoldred, Whispering One there.

I don't think that Teysa could really be the commander for this deck for a few of reasons,

1. Kambal is a 3 drop, which means he can interact with players while they are still playing ramp cards and setting up, giving us a huge advantage right from the get go, and continues to be a thorn throughout the entire game. Also, since he is a 3 drop, he is not as hard to replay once he is removed from the field.

2. The vast majority of cards in the deck are geared towards gaining life and using that life to trigger abilities while at the same time draining our opponents. Teysa doesn't enable us to have a significant source of lifegain early in the game that would allow us to start playing out our cards very quickly.

3. While Teysa is outstanding at making sure you don't get attacked, she does nothing to stop combo/ramp decks and is as big of a target as Kambal (If not bigger) since people get that you can play card effects while hiding behind your own Teysa.

I agree that Diabolic Tutor is a good idea, even with Increasing Ambition already in the deck,which will be what I put in over Consulate Crackdown since your suggestions are in the upgrades section.

I really like this deck. My friend has a real expensive Oloro, Ageless Ascetic deck which focuses on life gain and pillow fort, but this does just that but with even more focused on the life gain triggers all while being a budget deck!

Awesome deck build! Have you concidered adding Necropotence? it would give you more options on how to utilize that theoretical vault of life gain.

Folkhall, Necropotence goes is basically any black deck in commander, since it is a bit pricey, it is in the upgrade area.
