Creature (1)

Enchantment (2)

About 3.4 million years ago man discovered fire and it was good. Today we shall use fire to burn man and it is good. Should many man gather to challenge we wield many fire and many man go to grave.

Meet the players

  • Jace, Vryn's Prodigy   The man, the myth, the legend, probably the most underrated card of recent times (jokes please drop in price). No one can deny the value that comes from Jace and now he's gotten even better. Being able to discard Avacyn's Judgment is one of the many tricks up his sleeve. Once he has flipped you'll have access to your choice of answer all over again, this guy really pulls his weight.

  • Thing in the Ice   The thing is scary, and after a couple of instant and sorceries it completely changes the tone of the game. Flipping this on the end of your opponents turn is most often better than on your own so you can establish the board gain tempo. Being able to return your own reflector mages to hand is an added bonus.

  • Reflector Mage Exceptional on defense, get rid of one guy and block another he is key to staying ahead of fast decks with lots of small creatures. Added value comes from neutering Westvale Abbey   unless your opponent feels like a 6 for 1.

  • Thunderbreak Regent After firing off a couple of draconic roars then dropping this beater your opponent will find their life total getting really low without ever being hit by a creature. Works great in multiples. Having a big flier is great for going over the top. He is one of the main win conditions in the deck next to Gideon.

  • Gideon, Ally of Zendikar This guy will raise an army to fight for you, but he knows if you want something done right you gotta do it yourself. Protects himself well with his stream of knights but you'll need to put work into keeping him alive, he has a huge target on his back. If he lives he will bury your opponent.

  • Dragonlord Ojutai The one hit wonder. He can runaway with a game or need be just stick on the board as a big blocker. Sometimes you'll need to swing in and hope and when it works you'll never forget it.

  • Nahiri, the Harbinger She can get huge with her +2 and makes combat very awkward for your opponent, much better when you're ahead so not good to keep in a slow hand which you'll play off the backfoot. Her filtering effect is not to be underrated.

  • Ojuatis command also known as the second comming of Jace, the versatility of this card is worth the cost.

  • Chandra, Flamecaller No other card in the deck can change the course of the game like chandra, coming down and slamming for six or taking out the board is huge. Once in a blue moon you'll use her to draw some cards possibly activating madness.

  • Declaration in Stone is super efficient if your opponent is taking time off to crack clues then you can take the lead easily. If they don't then you're still ahead. This card is a sweeper against tokens and just extraordinary value for mana.

  • Epiphany at the Drownyard This card is amazingly versatile and will refill your hand with lots and lots of cards at some point in the game. Casting this on turn 3 is a valid option especially as your opponent will be reluctant to give you 'actual' cards so you can often get yourself a couple of lands if you're hand is land light, or even casting this on 2 if you're really screwed. But of course where this card shines in the late game when you cast it for anywhere from 5 to 12 and don't forget you can flashback and spells it ditches using Jace. Often it will sit as the last spell in your hand and draw lots. Make no mistake this card is no steam augury.

  • The burn speaks for itself use it to kill anything your opponents are foolish enough to put onto the battlefield. Draconic Roar can redirect face damage to planeswalkers. Kozilek's Return has overperformed and can crush aggressive decks and sometimes scare your opponent by sitting in your graveyard.

Took this build to FNM and started off with the bye and then went to time in round 2 against BW eldrazi Game 1 I lost to no lands and smasher. Game 2 got value and stopped all the advances. Game 3 was well positioned but had a slow hand in a 45 minute round. Round 3 against esper tokens/control took game 1 wrecking their tokens with declaration. Game 2 lost to multiple gideons I couldn't answer. Game 3 won thanks to Chandra and her +1. Round 4 against RG ramp obliterated them with Thunderbreak Gideon and reflector mage. Came 1st, though I did only win two rounds.

Through testing the deck has performed exceptionally against any token based strategies and 'slow' decks like ramp. The match up against humans is fantastic. Most aggro decks are even in game 1 or slightly favoured and heavily favoured after boarding. The worst match up is fat midrange where most of their things escape the burn in the main deck, but it does get a lot better after boarding. Control is pretty even but we can steal the game if they can't deal with one of the many walkers we put down.
