With a Maelstrom deck, you are always the target.

It is very easy to do disgusting things with a deck like this but good luck convincing anyone that you aren't as mean as they think. Try having a cute play-mat I'm thinking cute cats or gerbils... or something.

Anywhoo, this means that when you play with new people, they will be very aggressive towards you. Depends on how many friends you can afford to lose.

Mind you, this is really just my fun hype talking. Maelstrom Wanderer isn't quite as strong as he used to be.

Built and deconstructed the deck numerous times over many years, including updating this old deck page. Working on doing a massive rework of this deck, same page, new deck. Mostly the mana curve needs to be smoothed out. I like to think that it is casual, possibly even by today’s standard, and I'm simply playing cards with pretty art (always a big factor in my lists). I can try to write an overview of the deck if that's something anyone wants.

I don't like to be that competitive, but we all like to win. Even though I have some of those broken cards in the deck, I don’t use them or the deck to its full potential. I took out most of the especially mean cards / tactics like off the top of my head Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + Pestermite, infinite mana, blinking with said mana, double strike effects, cascade control cards, and cascading into Jokulhaups or other land destructions. Check my maybeboard list, the suggestions some nice others commented, or some of the other top Wanderer decks for cEDH power level builds.

Big shenanigans can be just as strong at relatively casual table, and cascade value town is always good. So, some of the more expensive cards ideal for this deck are absent.

Don't be a window shopper.

Truthfully I quit MTG for a few years and am VERY out of the loop. I didn't feel a connection to my play group anymore and spent my money on other hobbies. Getting back in to MTG and will find a group at my university as I finish my second degree. Anyone who made it this far, congratulations... you win nothing.
