"A darkness settles over the dreary port community of Red Hook. Wise mothers lock their doors, good fathers hold crossbows close, for when the sun sets madness rises from the depths..."

This is my attempt at making an H.P. Lovecraft Deck. I am trying to include beasties that would, theoretically, be found in his various works, especially those centered around urban hubs. My goal isn't necessarily to "win" as give my opponents the sensation that their faculties are drifting away as I force a combination of mill and discard to upset their strategies.

With this in mind, I have three main strategies to give my opponents headaches:

  1. Mill - I am not looking to win with mill, just stock their graveyard for me to plunder. Therefore, I have kept it to mostly large-scale mill cards like Traumatize and Nemesis of Reason so that I am getting as much bang-for-my-buck as possible for that card slot. No wimpy Tome Scour s.

  2. Discard - I've always thought that discard is a fun and infuriating way to achieve card advantage. Early game, I will gut my opponents' control options with Duress and Distress and then try to keep them suppressed with Hypnotic Specter and Doomsday Specter . It also, conveniently, puts things in the graveyard for my Wrexial, the Risen Deep and Geth, Lord of the Vault to snag. I find that it also plays into the themes of going "insane" really nicely.

  3. Graveyard Plunder - This will most likely be how I win. Extract from Darkness , Geth, Lord of the Vault , Wrexial, the Risen Deep , Memory Plunder , all of these allow me to make use of the cards in my opponents' graveyards to give myself their big advantages. Dimir Doppelganger and Stitcher Geralf are there to help ensure my opponents can't make use of the same resources before I can, and Sepulchral Primordial + Grimoire of the Dead can mean an end-game win-condition.

There are also a few supplementary cards to use for their flavor and utility. Deadeye Navigator and Identity Thief both allow me to flicker Sepulchral Primordial , Burglar Rat , Psychic Symbiont , and Kederekt Leviathan . Notion Thief ensures the discarding is harder to come back from. And Guiltfeeder as the potential to win games on his own if he strikes a sufficiently milled player while wearing Whispersilk Cloak .

I would most like advice on how to effectively balance mill vs. discard so that I am having the two synergize rather than compete. I would also love any good recommendations for cards that fit with my play-style here, while also adding horrific Lovecraftian flavor.

Let me know what you think!
