This is probably the most fun I have ever had durdling into a win with Maze's End. The deck was performing really well against 2 other decks, which were more tuned, making it hard for them to establish a board presence short of man-lands. I always had something to do on my turn, be it returning my commander to the battle field and wiping 4 times by turn 9 or only activating Maze's End. This deck ramps HARD, so hard that it's hard to believe it is almost entirely commons.

One addition I would make in a heartbeat is a High Market. I founnd there to be a lack of ways to consistently put your Commander in the graveyard. There are only 4 cards that allow you to sacrifice a creature or permanent with an agressive upside and ,if you include the edicts and and general removal, it brings the total ways to bin your commander to 8. Without the Maze's End or Genju of the Realm I found I wouldn't be able to put enough pressure on my opponent to make them fill up the board to try and stop me. The recursion for the Child of Alara is pretty top notch when you can find all your return spells though this deck plays the long game making the Disturbed Burial a must find. Without much tutoring the deck probably won't be much of a match for more tuned decks without a natural Burial Draw.

Maze's end did a lot of work for me in this deck by providing me with a clock that didn't die to my own commander. With the addition of two more win conditions, in the form of Genju of the Realm and Door to Nothingness, the chances if putting enough of a clock on your opponent is increased significantly enough to overcome the comparative lack of sacrifice effects. The fact Maze's End and Genju of the Realm are the win conditions really takes advantage of the natural durdle-ability of Child of Alara. The recursion package is very strong with no fewer than 20 different cards returning something to your hand or the battlefield. With the ramp it isn't hard to see how strong Disturbed Burial gets once you start wrathing the board.

In all this deck was a joyously janky experience to play. Buying back your commander for 5 mana and being able to replay then sacrifice him every turn after turn 7 without a single mana-rock on the table was really exciting. The ramp was incredible, 11 mana on turn 7, and playing with hardly interactive threats really managed to challenge my opponents. This deck is fun to win with and gives you a lot of options to act, even when you are losing. Play this deck if you want to have a ton of fun with commons making mythic wins.

Thanks for the review cutsdadestro, glad you had fun borrowing this last night. I agree and will add in High Market.

Also two others lands on that end which are a sac outlets, one is expensive, one is not so. The expensive one is an Uber High Market, Diamond Valley. The second is much less expensive and even ramps you into your next play, Phyrexian Tower.

Hope this helps.

Oh sorry missed the budget part, ignore Valley then. :P

Thanks for the suggestions. Honestly, I haven't really felt that I was lacking sac outlets, but I do appreciate the ideas.

Part of the joy in playing this is seeing a sub-sixty dollar deck tromp a pack of expensive, well oiled death machines... It would be like a three legged Donkey winning the Kentucky Derby.. Sure, we did kick the crap out of all the thoroughbreds ahead of time and give them all head trauma, but he still eventually toddled over the finish line and won... The fact that he's blinged-out and has a purple pimp hat and jewel encrusted pimp goblet is just icing on the cake..

But I digress...

I really enjoy this deck, but I'm not seeing how it can work against tuned decks. It seems really slow.

I won't say that this is the very best, most competitive deck ever built, but it is very strong, and has so much synergy once it gets going, that it becomes very hard to stop.

Fair enough. I can definitely see it winning in the long game. I just play around someone that turn 3 or 4s people consistently.

It's because it's all foil. If you build it as cheap as possible, it's just over $50

Hey there!

I stumbled upon this decklist and boy was I excited! I knew as soon as I looked through every card and what they did, I had to order this deck.

3 weeks after ordering this deck, and I have never had so much fun playing Commander! For me it's either constant revival of Child of Alara or just consistently returning Tempt with Discovery to my hand and cast it with the large mana pool I have to search for Maze's End along with all the gates ever!

Thank you good sir/madam for making this awesome deck. You have my +1.

Hey back,

Thanks for writing this, it made me smile to know someone else had gotten to experience this beastie for themselves.

I'd love to see your changes if any arise.

May I interest you in a commong from Amonkhet: Supernatural Stamina

For only 1 black mana and a sac outlet you can wipe the board while Child of Alara would come back.

couldn't you use the money you spent on foils to buy a deck that isn't budget?

My friend, you miss the point of building a budget deck. This is intended to show what can be done within limits. I have plenty of expensive decks. This is built for a different purpose.

Thoughts on Withered Wretch instead of Scavenging Ooze?

I like WW. The double Black is a bit pricey though, so Scooze still has the upper .... um.... flagellum? lol

I might consider running both though. Thanks!
