This is probably a better replacement for your diamonds: Sapphire Medallion Also this card is brutally mean in Nekusar: Sunder

Also you really need Lightning Greaves to help protect Nekusar and give Jace's archivist haste.

I have actually been looking for each in the grixis colors , my local shop didn't have any so I will probably have to order them online good idea for what I should cut to make room. Sunder sounds kool ill have to test it out

I tell a lot of people to play the niv combos in Nekusar. But you really won't want any of that if your playing storm. Creatures don't really help your storm count and neither do enchantments. You'll really want to maximize the amount of mana rocks, ramp spells like Dark Ritual and Seething Song , as well as cost reduction spells like Helm of Awakening and Arcane Melee . This will give you "more bang for your buck" I've been playing a storm oriented list of Nekusar for quite some time now and love it. Definitely my strongest EDH deck.

Take a look at Nekusar's Perfect Storm for more ideas.

Ive been keeping track of your deck for awhile now. It's pretty awesome. I already have most of those cards in the deck. I ran niv-mizzet but he was to expensive mana wise , same goes for Arcane Melee its a bit expensive. And I like Rings of Brighthearth in combination with the monoliths, especially because I am considering Shimmer Myr so that I can flash artifacts onto the field.

Since you're going for speed Kederekt Parasite would probably be a better alternative than Fate Unraveler .

Mana Confluence replacing Tarnished Citadel or any other check lands. Yes you do have fetch and shock lands but if it's about speed you'll have more consistence with Mana Confluence

I'd say either Graven Cairns , Sunken Ruins or Cascade Bluffs would do better than Blackcleave Cliffs and Darkslick Shores

There's also a few other cards I'd suggest but have problems finding cards they could possibly replace them with. You have better knowledge with how your deck work and will know much better than me how they would interact with your deck so I'll at least mention them. The cards are as follows Gamble , Chaos Warp , Teferi's Puzzle Box , Whirlpool Warrior , Yawgmoth's Will , Toxic Deluge , Blasphemous Act , Past in Flames

Sigil of Sleep can be a powerful sideboard card.

Tainted Strike , Phyresis , Glistening Oil for competetive play.

@Ulvhedner I have Mana Confluence in the deck but I haven't put it into the deck list. Sigil of Sleep is awesome but I took it out for Tandem Lookout because drawing lots of cards usually mean I win once I've wheeled after. I took out the infect because if I've done ten points of damage then I'm prolly going to do forty, so the space that those cards were taking up is better used for others. I've got the lands Darkslick Shores and others. Whirlpool Warrior is hard to play because of the Etb. Board wipes Aren't worth it. Past in Flames is to expensive, Snapcaster Mage does the same thing or as much as I need at instant speed. I have mixed feelings about the filter lands because of my low land count. Gamble , and Chaos Warp are good suggestions ill have to try them out

@Ulvhedner Kederekt Parasite only works with nekusar on the field, Fate Unraveler is in the deck to replace nekusar if he gets removed all you need is one pain effect. All the Curiosity cards work with her as well . I've kept away from cards like Teferi's Puzzle Box with upkeep effects because they are slow and give opponents the chance to react to triggers. Thanks for all the suggestions.

I think running Brain Freeze wouldn't be a bad idea.

@Weirdhat What I meant about the Darkslick Shores and the other lands like them is that you probably want to replace them. They're only good if they're your first or second land drop otherwise they're just ordinary tap lands. You're after speed and they will slow you down after the two first land drops.

Weirdhat says... #12

@Ulvhedner I only need two or three land drops. The deck can win somewhat consistently turn 4 or 5 and I've wheeled at least once or twice by then, allowing me to sift through the library. The only crucial land drops are the first two. Which makes the quick lands extremely good.

Have you considered Mind Over Matter it will make your life much easier, and ties into my next suggestion.

Since your playing the Curiosity package how do you feel about adding Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind ? He can deal some serious damage to kill 1-2 players outright and fill your hand up to finish off the rest if the table? Adding to that Laboratory Maniac can just let you deck yourself with any niv combo without worry.

Those cards are all too slow, play test the deck, they're not needed.

August 13, 2014 9:12 p.m.

I understand they're expensive... But I play a simuliar build and from my testing mind over matter is one of the best cards this deck can play. You have enough mana rocks to cast it on turn 3. Once on board it basically wins the game on its own. It allows you to cast more wheels in a single turn ny basically never let's you run out of mana. When you find your self without a land, it taps down a threat.

The niv idea may be more "cute" I'll give you that, but still very strong once on board allowing an easy way to continue to combo off if Nekusar gets tucked. Also shouldn't be too hard to cast considering the number of mana rocks. lol just a suggestion, though.

Check out my list and let me know what you think. We're going for the same feel here so maybe we can work together and make one solid list working off of each others ideas. Nekusar's Perfect Storm

I play with Weirdhat on a regular basis, he's tried those cards. Not that he cN't put them back but they've been done in his build.

Mind Over Matter is extremely good quadruple blue is almost impossible for this deck turn three, color constraint is what makes nekusar turn two so hard. Unless I have all blue producing lands a signet and one other rock. If any higher cmc were to make it into the deck it would be Mind over matter. The niv curiosity combo is slow, niv has to live a whole rotation unless I have a damage source. I decided that the deck would go all in on the wheeling everyone to death with pain effects. Tendrils of Agony is the only spell outside that plan and it has proved it's worth very much so. Lab maniac is a great way to win, but everyone who is playing blue in my play group uses Laboratory Maniac . Time Spiral and Time Reversal make sure I don't deck myself to quickly. The idea is that the deck builds very specifically towards a certain win con. You are correct about fork effect being dead cards but they save me to much of the time, and with a wheel the gains can't be ignored.

O and I have been watching your deck for a while PrestonShilling. I've just kept changing the name of this deck. The tendrils ideas started at your deck, so did transmute

August 14, 2014 9:30 a.m.

I'm not the biggest fan o psychosis crawler because his toughness drops to 0 when you cast a wheel and he dies. Maybe try that Mind Over Matter we talked about in that spot?
