Commander: Ghave, Guru of Spores

Maybeboard

Welcome to Hydra-ponics, a deck all about making things grow big, strong and infinitely! By using Ghave, Guru of Spores, we'll grow a few creatures to enormous proportions for protection and to threaten the board. While our big creatures do their thing, we start the real fun, the "baby-making". Our army will start small and then grow into an unrelenting legion that we'll use to draw cards, force sacrifices, and finally consume our opponents. So are you ready for some mana-hungry horticulture?

INTRODUCTION

This deck is all about making big creatures and fun card interactions. Utilizing Hydras (with their +1/+1 counter abilities) and other good creatures we'll slowly grow our army of Saprolings to first control the board and then overrun our opponents. Big creatures, army of tokens, and a few "I win" combos all tossed into one deck; a shining example of the spirit of Commander.

STRATEGY

Like any good green deck our early game comprises of ramping up mana, removing threats utilizing our two other colors, and drawing/tutoring up combo pieces. By mid-game we want to have a few creatures out for protection and to put pressure on our opponents while building our board up with force multipliers and control elements. After our board is stable its time to go off by putting out a huge creature (usually with the help of Ghave's second ability) and heading for the red zone. And just in case our opponents have responses we use Ghave's first ability to make a seemingly endless stream of tokens to clean up stragglers.

The hardest part about playing this deck is timing and not overextending. With so much good stuff in the deck its easy to dump your hand and eating a board wipe before you get anything done.

FEATURED CARDS

Ghave, Guru of Spores has two very good abilities. By using these abilities in tandem you can grow creatures to just silly sizes or amass a gross amount of tokens swinging for lethal in one fell swoop.
