Ever since i popped a Rorix Bladewing in an onslaught "fat pack" (it wasn't nearly as fat back then), I knew i wanted to build a dragon deck. I got the Knights vs. Dragons duel decks in order to create a shell for that deck a few years later, and then the arrival of Dragons of Tarkir solidified this deck in it's current form. These are cards that I must own, which is why the number of copies of certain cards are what they are, and will be consistently being updated with new cards and spells, as I acquire them.
As for piloting: There's a decent amount of flexibility in this deck. Hoarding Dragon can retrieve your Quicksilver Amulet for future plays or your Moltensteel Dragon for power attacks. Thunderbreak Regent punishes your opponent for targeting dragons and Armillary Sphere thins out your deck while providing you much needed land. Charmbreaker Devils help retrieve your Pyretic Ritual and Lightning Bolt for repeated use, while Utvara Hellkite and
Dragon Whisperer
play off of each other to create dragon tokens.
Seismic Strike
is great for clearing out opposing attackers, but offering the opponent the choice of whether to block an attacking
Mudbutton Torchrunner
is just so joyful as they make that pained expression on their face. Speaking of pained expressions,
Bladetusk Boar
may be out of place in a dragon deck, but it can be considered a consistent Lightning Bolt, so it must be answered asap, which wastes one of your opponent's answers for your dragons. Everything for the glory of your dragons!
Kilnmouth Dragon is as powerful as you want to make it via revealing cards, and
Slagstorm
, Thunder Dragon, and Breath of Darigaaz all clear the board as necessary. Dragon Tempest gives all your dragons haste, which is nice, and turns the number of dragons you have into damage, which is great with the Dragon Whisperer
+
Utvara Hellkite
token generator. Drawing extra land is never a problem when you have
Moonveil Dragon
, Moltensteel Dragon,
Dragon Whelp
, or even
Dragon Whisperer
on the field, as they are excellent mana sinks.
Overall, dragons don't like to work together. Usually, a few alone will make the game swing your way. But when you create an army of dragons...Well, you become nigh invincible.
