Neckworn: Honestly, this deck just threw up its hands and went full-combo a while ago. I never had the counters in hand at the right time, and they diluted my creature . And yes, I definitely need Embalmer's Tools.

Shadow_Zephire: That's an interesting question. If all of my win-cons were in my GY and I get hit with Nihil Spellbomb, I just lose. The same applies to if an opponent T0's a Leyline of the Void and it never gets removed. BUT, with intelligent play, you can get around this - either force them to explode the Nihil Spellbomb preemptively by attempting to reanimate something threatening (notably the Deadeye/Peregrine combo, which they have to answer or lose), or use instant-speed reanimation to grab Laboratory Maniac in response, or simply use Sidisi's beatdown to kill them before they detonate the stupid thing.

It's frustrating when your opponent has a strong anti-GY card, but with clever play you can outwit them and remove it (assuming no one else removes it first).

Maybe throw in Memory's Journey and/or Krosan Reclamation to snag something you need after you mill completely or to respond to GY hate. Maybe Darkblast too.

Squirrel_of_War: I used to play Memory's Journey for that purpose. But when things are in my deck they're somewhat useless to me, so I eventually went all-in-combo with the deck.

This deck is no longer my most powerful or adaptable deck (I need to rebuild/tweak it) though.

Interesting. I just build a hermit druid combo deck and one of my favorite things is Necrotic Ooze + Disciple of the Ring, once I deck myself I just counter everything. :) let me know what you think when you have a sec.

How about Protean Hulk? The card was unbanned. Any way it would work great in this deck?

Daedalus19876 says... #6

Darkersun: Oh, definitely. I just wish it could grab from GY too - I'm going to have to retune a few things to abuse it.

Have you seen Perpetual Timepiece?

Lifeline would be another way to get Protean Hulk back onto the battlefield.

Daedalus19876 says... #9

ZomBMO: I have, yes. But I try to stay away from non-creature effects whenever possible, so things like Nyx Weaver are in here instead. Thank you for your comment! :)

bushido_man96: Lifeline is symmetric, though - I don't want to give all of my opponents their creatures back :(

Yea, that is an issue, unless it nets you more advantage than them.

Jin-gitaxias is a blast to play! Victimize a jin-gitaxias and sheoldred feels even better.

I still really enjoy your list. I've made a few changes to mine this season and have almost finished the primer. Take a look if you have the time. My list

kilgore: I'm very happy with my new changes. Particularly, Entomb for Dread Return is pretty sweet :D I need to update the primer soon, though.

Have you ever considered Sword of Light and Shadow?

It feels like an investment. You need 5 cmc to cast and equip the sword and then get damage through. And it recurs only to your hand not the battlefield. :/ So this realistically means bringing back a 4 cmc or less creature. Because I don't really want to hard cast a jin-gitaxias.

I think Phyrexian Reclamation or even Palace Siege might be better suited for this role.

This is a really solid deck and something I would like to play against just for the hell of it.

xander11: It's very fun haha :)

Do you mind giving a more substantive comment, or an upvote (as requested on the Advertise Your Deck page)? An upvote is fine if you like the deck ;)

Yeah, how does this hold up against more control based builds? For example I have an Erebos deck that makes it so you can only play black, do you have any answers to that kind of control?

July 2, 2017 1:35 p.m.

Daedalus19876 says... #19

xander11: I assume that it's a Contamination-based build? If so, I have two options:

1) In this specific case I wouldn't be immensely bothered. This deck can play fine only working with black spells (since my reanimation is in black).

2) In general, though, I can either rely on another player to help me deal with it, or kill you with a fast combo before you can set up your control. In practice, most disruption doesn't harm me that much (with the notable exception of Rest in Peace-type effects), because I can play around it or outrace it.

Oh lotus cobra? Let us know how that's been working out for you. I do prefer Bloom Tender in the 2 drop slot, it's proved to be a good ramp creature.

Razaketh will be going in my list. Probably replace rune-scarred demon

I forgot to ask. What do you think of the new crucible of worlds creature?

Ramunap Excavator

kilgore: I really should be playing both...and Ramunap Excavator looks amazing, I just haven't acquired one yet...

I like this deck a lot, it looks like a ton of fun to play.

My main suggestions would be to cut some of the higher mana cost spells and add some mana acceleration like land searching effects or mana rocks.

I see that you already run some tutors to put things into your graveyard, but it might be nice to add some tutors that put cards in your hand. I know this is a budget list so I'd suggest Dark Petition and Beseech the Queen. Demonic Collusion is also good because the buyback allows you to discard cards to reanimate.

Trophy Mage might be good to search for Basalt Monolith, especially since you can reanimate it after milling it with Mesmeric Orb.

I'm not a big fan of Haunted Dead (Phantasmagorian is more mana efficient), Hell's Caretaker, Embalmer's Tools, or Fraying Sanity.

@Florg

Hell's Caretaker reanimates Manic in the upkeep and then you win at the draw phase.

I liked the Trophy suggestion.

This deck is aewsome, I've been playing a copy about sometime and still loving it, my friends are starting to call me Vera hahahaha
