Nice deck

How come you have chosen Beast Within? Because it says permanents or because you could use it for you own good? Why not use something like Hero's Downfall?

Hewer: It's one of the very few spells that can hit any permanent whatsoever, it has less color commitment then Hero's Downfall, and a 3/3 is not very relevant in EDH. Honestly, it's one of the best removal spells ever printed in EDH.

I'm glad you like my deck! :)

Have you ever considered running Orbs of Warding? It's another Witchbane Orb but with an additional effect.

Eridian22: I have considered both, but I haven't decided what (if anything) to cut for them. I'd have to spend a recursion spell to grab it from my graveyard, and most of the graveyard hate I'm actually worried about (Rest in Peace and Leyline of the Void and Relic of Progenitus and Withered Wretch and Scavenging Ooze in particular) isn't targeted. The second ability isn't extremely relevant in my meta (the first ability already nixes niv-mizzet), although it would be more helpful than removing curses, I suppose.

Hi, I've recently built my own Sidisi and I focus little bit more on dredge, although the work is far from finished =) As for gy protection, there isn't much to choose in these colors if you ditch the Eldrazi titans and you already know about shroud and hexproof against mass removal. If you wanna try the orbs, Glissa, the Traitor offers excellent recursion value in these colors. Against wretches and oozes there is Ground Seal, which also shuts you off from most of your own reanimation spells, which makes it slightly better in Karador, Ghost Chieftain than Sidisi. Leyline of the Void and Rest in Peace are our common enemy, there isn't very much to do about them, beside destroying them ASAP and Stifle RiP etb trigger (note that Stifle is viable against broader variety of gy hate). Also I would be a bit worried about playing Massacre Wurm. I tend to not play creatures that can kill me or shut me off if reanimated by my opponent, e.g. I don't play Linvala, Keeper of Silence in my Captain Sisay deck just as I don't play Angel of Finality in my W/B reanimator.

PS: if you like, you can check my profile, I too have built Marchesa, the Black Rose =)

Oh forgot to mention Krosan Reclamation and Memory's Journey but they probably aren't worth it even combined with Riftsweeper.

liqo: Thank you for your comment! I took a look at your Sidisi deck; it seems to be much more aggro-based than my own combo approach. Glissa, the Traitor is an interesting idea, and I may have to try her (since artifact recursion is a bit of a weak point in my build, and Altar of Dementia is so nice).

In regards to your comments about GY hate - I've considered Stifle before, and it's been in some previous drafts, but I just never seem to have it in hand when I need it. Ground Seal would harm me too much for exactly the reasons specified, and the Orbs only protect against a few GY hate cards.

Re:Massacre Wurm - you make a valid point, and I actually have been killed by my opponent reanimating it before. But I can partially dodge that if I have an instant-speed sac outlet, and it's also very effective against my opponents (usually one-shotting several of them). Overall, it's a risk I'm willing to take.

Memory's Journey is something I have considered before, only because it can ALSO screw with my opponents' reanimator plans. But I'm fine with milling myself to death, since 1) Laboratory Maniac and 2) my preferred combo requires me to only have one card in my library (namely, Dread). If you don't care about instant-speed, though, Loaming Shaman is amazing and keeps the creature count high.

And if I had the money for a Survival of the Fittest or a Greater Good, I'd be playing them too haha.

Tell me if you want a critique of your deck as well, btw! :) Despite that it might not seem like it, this is a deck attuned for a very competitive meta, and still wins a large percentage of the time unless an early Rest in Peace resolves.

Oh I see, you are familiar with all the anti gy-hate options, but yet you haven't included them. So you prefer the no-way-back glasscannon style :-D

Greater Good + dredge is ridiculously easy combo I rather haven't incorporated it into my build - I don't want to be public enemy #1 and be focused any more than I already am :-D

Similarly I haven't included your favorite - though I can suggest you more pieces to combo off with Mesmeric Orb. Namely Aphetto Alchemist, Seeker of Skybreak and Fatestitcher. For more inspiration I recommend you to check out DirkGently's competitive Sidisi and Gaka's Dredgric.

Wish you the best odds of not seeing RiP/LotV in your games!

Oops, missed that Fatestitcher has wording "another".

liqo: Personally, I prefer Basalt Monolith to combo with Mesmeric, since it's also a very good mana rock on its own :) and my response to graveyard hate is often to reanimate Eternal Witness in response, to grab what I need before it gets exiled. Interestingly, I can survive most graveyard hate fine, though it makes my life harder. Unless it's played on Turn Zero, Leyline of the Void can be worked around (since I'll have a large graveyard to recover with), and Relic of Progenitus and friends can be solved (since I can mill later). The only one I really never have a response to is Rest in Peace, since it staples both effects together :P

You should also consider a Jarad's Orders. Tutors a creature to your hand, and triggers Sidisi's ability since the second creature is going directly from your library to the graveyard.

Daedalus19876 says... #12

xNevaRaveNx: I'll consider it! The zombie isn't usually a huge deal, and mid-to-late game the cards I want are usually in my graveyard, but it would be helpful in the early game.

Looking good, working on a Sidisi deck myself. Why no Spider Spawning though?

sleeper_agent007: 7 mana was a pretty high cost, and it can only be used once. It was in original drafts, but I found I rarely cast it (since Worm Harvest usually got more value and was repeatable, especially combined with Life from the Loam) and that I needed to replace it with a creature to up the creature count.

However, I made a super-budget version of this deck recently (linked to in the description) where Spider Spawning is now included :)

I can also look over your Sidisi deck, if you're interested.

Deadbridge ChantI like the if you would draw no cards you win instead guy haha mill yourself for the victory!

Daedalus19876 says... #16

bretters: I actually cut DBC because it was too slow, my combo had to speed up, and choosing a random card out of a 70+ card graveyard became very tedious.

Laboratory Maniac is a way to win, but I generally don't rely on him (since he's fragile, and usually dies in response to whatever I'm using to draw). Instead, my infinite combo of choice (milling all of the opponents to death) is more robust.

I hope you like the deck :)

Yea I understand he isn't the main win con but I still like it

November 17, 2015 4:24 p.m.

Daedalus19876 says... #18

bretters: Yeah, you don't see him too often in EDH :) I once got SUPER lucky and reanimated him off of DBC to win. It was glorious.

Any suggestions for modifications to the deck?

I had Sidisi2 in here at one point, but the cards I want are usually in my graveyard when I want them, so I took her out. Still, you're right, she's a tutor who can be reanimated and who isn't going to lower the creature count. I'll consider.

What would you suggest I remove to make space?

K34: Thank you - are you building a similar list?

Maringam: Do tell me about how that game went! Sounds like an interesting matchup haha - I hope that Yawgmoth's Will never got Wrexialed...

It didn't, unfortunately. I did get your Gnaw to the Bone and gained 24 life though!
