When I had Delver of Secrets Flip in here this past Thursday, I was able to hit myself to flip him, I used it so throw a Urza's Mine into the GY then Surgical Extraction ed it, destroyed a Lord of Atlantis before another lord came out, and word on the street is that it puts 2 +1/+1 counters on Quirion Dryad . It might come out eventually or be one of the first things I side out, but it was pretty dandy when I had it.

also, Spell Snare can hit a ton of cards that are relavent in modern, would you add that.

Silly me I knew my deck list looked funny, I have 3x Spell Snare s that are in here -_-

What would you think of have 2x Cryptic Command s in the deck or SB?
April 20, 2013 11:56 a.m.
miracleHat says... #6
i'm pretty sure that you could drop 1 Rune Snag and Spell Snare for 2 in the mainboard, and add 2 for Extirpate in the sideboard.

Well I only have 2 from way back when I pulled them, maybe I could grab some in the future, but I've been thinking on switching out Rune Snag for Mana Leak since I have the Snapcasters now. So maybe I'd do
- 2x Rune Snag --> 2x Cryptic Command
- 2x Rune Snag --> 2x Mana Leak
Thoughts?

since i'm not a personal fan of Rune Snag , dropping them sounds good to me. alo, why the Thought Scour ] wouldn't Serum Visions be better.

I had them in, because currently I switch this deck between Standard and Modern. The mill 2 is meh, but mostly it's a 1 mana cantrip. I haven't maximized the power of this yet, since It just came together, and I'm a poor college student on a budget :(. The Serum Visions can wait while I acquire more important pieces first, though yeah they're better.
April 20, 2013 12:16 p.m.
I like the deck a lot!
Couple of things.
If you can afford it, Dark Confidant is great because a deck like this, wants card advantage. If not, Phyrexian Arena .
Remand generates tempo and is basically time walking them ost of the time.
Shadow of Doubt in the side is evil as it becomes a Sinkhole versus fetches, that cantrips, and buffs up Dryad by +2/+2. It also stops tutoring.

@ LeaPlath Maybe Bob could join the club one day if I get that far competitively, but I'll probably try out the spoiled http://static.tappedout.net/concept-cards/dgmsziggas-blood-scrivener_medium.pngBlood Scrivener in his place.
Remand is great, I just don't have the resources to acquire 4 yet.
Lastly, Shadow of Doubt is really intriguing in the side, maybe take out 2x Extirpate and 1x Duress for 3x Shadow of Doubt ? Or is 2 usually enough?
April 20, 2013 12:22 p.m.
Of course, fetches would help this a lot. And filter lands. Plus help deathrite shaman ramp even more.

I agree with the fetchlands, though they are expensive
April 20, 2013 12:53 p.m.
If you can afford her, Lili could be quite useful.
Also, man lands. Treetop Village and Creeping Tar Pit . Darkslick Shores and maybe less counter spells? Sideboard or drop Cryptic so you are only running Remand and maybe drop mana leak too for a more tempo type of build?
Lots of good stuff on these lists.http://www.mtgdecks.net/decks/viewByArchetype/1253
It says control, but they are all more tempo.

Fetchlands would be great and eventually I want to add 4x Misty Rainforest . Adjusting it just now I have a Creeping Tar Pit and Darkslick Shores that I'll sub in for some basics.
Didn't realize I had so many counters in here lol, I'll remove the Remand s since I don't actually have them yet.
I was thinking on Liliana of the Veil , but when she jumped it price that put her out of my range for now.
- Remand --> Hate Weaver until Blood Scrivener is in the data base
April 20, 2013 1:16 p.m.
I would personally play Remand over Mana Leak and Cryptic Command . It is tempo and more easily flashed back, and scales better to late game.

I currently own the Mana Leak s and Cryptic Command s. Though I agree with you, so I will switch them out ASAP. What do you think of Isochron Scepter in here?
April 20, 2013 2:40 p.m.
miracleHat says... #19
i think that Isochron Scepter would be brutal in here.
April 20, 2013 2:42 p.m.
Not a fan of Scepter without Silence or Helix really. Silence is brutal to time walk them and Helix is just good value burn.
Also, a few more cards to consider Countersquall , Darkblast , Voidslime , Squelch
Countersquall is not too bad versus a combo deck you have to race.
Darkblast is repeatable removal that lets you dredge as well, if you want to snapcaster.
Voidslime is a bit of an out there card, but it can do a fair bit in the sideboard versus combo decks. For example, you can counter the cascade or storm triggers.
Squelch is also another 1U wasteland a fetch land and cantrip card, but has more utility at times.

I was thinking the same thing regarding the scepter, since Abrupt Decay and Remand would be the only things I'd want to put under it.
I have also been pondering on Voidslime , in the SB, for that very reason. Maybe remove 1x Duress and 1x Maelstrom Pulse for 2x Voidslime ?
I decided to look up the decks you posted, and besides Goyf, Bob, Snap, and Clique, all their instants and sorceries seem to be either 1,2, or 3 of's. Rarely do they play 4. Why would they do that? Isn't consistency a big deal?
April 22, 2013 1:56 p.m.
When you have so much value at 1-3. Why go higher?
Bob is an issue as you want to play him 2 turn, ideally and swamp them in card advantage, while you beat down with delver, clique, goyf, etc. You can also run slightly less lands (22-23) instead of 24-25 lands.
You are also then able to cast every turn.

Touche, and I'm thinking more about Darkblast and how it interacts with Blood Scrivener.
Say I have no cards in hand, Blood Scrivener on the field, and draw.
I draw the first card, triggering Blood Scrivener to draw 2 and lose a life.
Then with the second card would I be able to replace the draw with dredge?
As I type this I really would like to know the answer, so I'll post in the Q&A too.
April 22, 2013 5:27 p.m.
ChiefWannaHacka says... #24
The answer was yes, so I think for some diversity I'll take out 1x Quirion Dryad and 1x Vapor Snag and put in 2x Darkblast

Looks good. You said it's out of your playstyle, what do you normally play for playstyle?

how good is Dimir Charm in modern, i find it quite versatile.
