You play this as a control deck, but you don't have any mainboard board wipes. How do you deal with creature decks when they start to run away or you can't afford to 1 for 1 them? (awesome deck btw)

tyforthevenom says... #2

Krayhaft i can answer that handle them by using bigger beatdown, wurmcoil (infinitely creating wurm tokens if your engine dies) platinum angel, steel hellkite these are the ways u tron fights creature aggro game 1

Oblivion Stone is a board wipe...and it is definitely mainboard...

Whoops, didn't see that. But that seems rather slow to use, especially if you have to Fabricate it out.

Krayhaft Platinum Angel "cannot lose the game" so... Nothing is really all that slow

Assuming you can get Platinum Angel out early, which looks to be T3 at the earliest, with a nut draw. But as a 1-of, you aren't too likely to draw it and assemble the tron by then, and even with Fabricate s to tutor, it means you're not looking for your other silver bullets or a wincon. By itself, Plat is a pretty bad wincon that dies to so much removal and doesn't actually help aside from being a 4/4 flier that slows your death (although I admit the "dies-to-removal" argument is really overused anyway).

I'm really curious to see how this deck performs. Are there matchlogs with this?

August 2, 2014 10:29 a.m.

People 4-0 dailies on mtgo with this all the time. It has also come in first place in modern premiers on mtgo too. Check mtgsalvation's forums. Look for modern and the established Subforum, there are literally hundreds of pages of info on U Tron.

As to how it performs, the deck is a decent amount of the online meta for a reason.

The angel protected by a counterspell is a soft lock.

what's your opinion on Taigam's Scheming for a 2 drop dig/filter card?

@ Ohthenoises how well is Ugin working out for you in this deck?

So I have a Mono Tron deck too, but before investing in a Snapcaster Mage, I was wondering... how often (if ever) do you struggle with the double cost? I'd appreciate the help

...and what happened to Repeal?

While Crucible of Worlds was mentioned earlier, I believe it was for the wrong reasons. Do you think that having it in the sideboard for G2 or 3 for when people side in Tectonic Edge to destroy your Tron lands?

tyforthevenom says... #14

Blue tron can play without tron normally just hit 12 lands and combo keeping your resto angel alive

I'm curious about a few things.

  1. Is playing Solemn Simulacrum worth it? I've been playing Treasure Mage (I see that you have 3 Fabricate instead) with Repeal, and I can't tell you how many times Repeal has been valuable, and I know that Treasure Mage often fetches exactly what I need at the right time. It does of course miss Expedition Map and Oblivion Stone.

  2. Talisman of Dominance vs Dimir Signet. Sometimes with the Signet, mana can get a little clunky, but you don't have to lose life. On the other hand, the Talisman is more efficient, but it costs you life.

  3. Is Steel Hellkite worth it? Obviously, if he gets in, it can be a devastating hit to your opponent, but it relies heavily on assembling Tron to be as effective as you might want it to be because otherwise, you have to wait a turn just to attack, risking Terminate and other things before wiping. AND it has to deal damage, which is ineffective against Lingering Souls or something of the like.

  4. In your budget version, you run Tolaria West, but in this version you run 2 Oboro, Palace in the Clouds. I prefer to have one of each because West can fetch for the final land you need. I've also been considering running Pact of Negation as a 1-of, and if that does happen, West gains even more value. I'm curious as to your opinions.

My deck is on my profile if you're interested in checking it out.

Do you reckon Titan's Presence could have a place in the deck?

September 4, 2015 10:55 a.m.

Ohthenoises says... #17

It will be getting tested, for sure. Snapcaster Mage makes is especially tasty since I could flash it back.

This may mean a swap to Platinum Emperion over Platinum Angel but that may not be needed (more meta dependent).

No love for Darkslick Shores as a painless source of and ? I'm also a bit surprised by only 1 copy of Sword of the Meek being present - it makes that aspect of the deck a bit soft to graveyard hate.

buildingadeck says... #20

People already board in sideboard hate for Tron for Academy Ruins. The shell is strong by itself, so the Thopter/Sword combo just adds another win-con.

Fair enough. Would Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger be a card you would consider? It seems like it would slam the door shut on a lot of decks in the current meta. While we're on the subject of Eldrazi, how about Thought-Knot Seer? I faced a -Tron deck that employed it, and I thought it was a pretty good fit.

I use TKS, and it's VERY good. Ulamog is great, but with Eye banned, it loses some of its value.

April 8, 2016 12:03 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #23

The only thing with TKS is I'm not sure where to add it in this shell. Like, drop solemn? ehhhh.

Not sure.

April 8, 2016 12:39 p.m.

buildingadeck says... #24

TKS is better than Solemn, IMO. It's more aggressive and acts as a Thoughtseize on a sizable body. It can also pave the way to cast a Wurmcoil that sticks instead of waiting for counter mana.

April 8, 2016 12:42 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #25

Hmmm. you make a good point, especially about paving the way for the wurm. I'll have to try that seeing as I have a few TKS I was saving for legacy.
