I really enjoy the concept for this deck. If you want to accelerate the land/turn rate, I would recommend Rites of Flourishing . Not only do you get more draws, but it allows you to always be able to play your commander.

If you want to throw in Primal Surge , you'll need some nonpermanents, to prevent milling out, like Rampant Growth , or Ranger's Path , also, Azusa, Lost but Seeking would be cool, other mana ramp is always good.

Primal Surge says "you MAY". You can stop at any time you want.

+1 for the cool deck! Love gimmicks like these!

IMO Boundless Realms is better than Primal Surge .

@grandslam, Boundless Realms is 7 cmc so the quickest this deck could put it out is turn 5 and having 8 mana on the board tapped when cast. That's 16 mana total for turn 5.

Turn 6 will have 10 mana on the board to cast Primal Surge at which point it count put as much mana on the board as you need, untapped, for you to activate Budoka Gardener 's ability with which you would have to wait for the next turn to use anyway with Boundless Realms .

In either case, both would work in this deck and both being 1 ofs in a slew of Forest s means it is not likely you would get either in any case. Still, I am curious why you think Boundless Realms is better.

This is amazing. In class and I couldn't stop laughing at how simple and funny this deck is +1. Also think Primal Surge is hilarious.

if you use Primal Surge you will just mill yourself out because the tokens don't have haste and you will lose in the next turn

Primal Surge says "MAY". You can stop at any time. Sheesh, read the card.

Primal Surge + Concordant Crossroads + Bellowing Tanglewurm and/or Primal Rage ... would take away from your rap theme name but would be hella funny

I get arrest, but mizzium mortars wouldn't work

Bellock86 says... #18

Arrest stops the whole thing. But Mizzium Mortars only woks if his elementals are 4 or less power and toughness which they mostly likely won't be. By the time u get mortars it'll be too late. But same could be said of Arrest . I get the logic but u also have to consider that mizzium and arrest woukd be one of 99 cards. His kill card IS his general.

Maybe if you were willing to change the name, High Market and Miren, the Moaning Well would be good at saving you from opponents stealing your general or arresting it.

Woops double post

I got 99 lands but a gardner aint one

June 1, 2013 7:57 p.m.

VinylScratch says... #21

Mizzium Mortars only cost 2 the same as Gardner, and you cant use tap abilities the first turn so I have 3 turns to get mizzium mortars which is insanely more likely to get mizzium mortars before 3rd turn than getting gardner at all.

Bellock86 says... #22

You realize this is an EDH deck right. So the gardner is seperate from the actual deck. He's gauranteed gardner on turn 2.

And u have a one in 99 chance of drawing Mizzium Mortars unless ur running a tutor deck but there are only so many cards that tutor. Like I said, in theory u are completely right. It could happen. But the odds are not in ur favor.

And just killing the gardener isn't good enough. You have to lock him down on the board (or in the hand, deck, etc) to shut this deck down. Otherwise he'll just pop back to the command zone for a mere extra +2 mana to cast again.

I don't think this deck misses land drops, heh.

June 1, 2013 11:19 p.m.

Which is why this deck should have the lands i mentioned above so that arrests and such can be dealt with and worked around
