hellbent on changing this —May 12, 2021
I've been playing, goldfishing and making edits to this list for at least 6 hours today. I've been frustrated the entire time. Something feels off, like the more I change this list, the further away I stray from... something. Some kind of golden standard and expected performance that I'm failing to reach. I keep changing things and changing things, hoping that that desire will be satisfied.
Wanting to mill and reanimate something huge that draws cards has been a long-running desire when playing this deck. Vilis, Broker of Blood does a fantastic job at this, but can be tricky to set up sometimes, and the huge life investment can turn the table's eyes on you way too easily -- leading to a lot of really awful games. I'm not entirely sure how this is supposed to be any better, but I'm trying Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur, a card I've avoided adding in for ages, in place of... Mystic Remora. I have a number of reasons for this but I'd rather just finish up these changes and get back to testing.
Few other changes are present too; Monologue Tax is temporarily back in, Chrome Mox is booted for Mox Diamond for a number of reasons (it sending lands to the grave is the main one), Yawgmoth's Will is replaced by Ashiok, Dream Render, and overall I'm trying to get more mill and fuel coming in and interactive creatures going out. The persist dream is a fun one which I may revisit in the future if I ever double-down on +1/+1 counters. Which I probably won't, but hey. Oh, Vampiric Tutor is in as well as a replacement for Demonic Tutor. Figured a lot of the time I'm wanting a Entomb equivalent, and so by being able to put the card on top of the library, I can either draw or mill it as needed for the desired result.
Brain is scrambled egg. Need to get back to testing. And drink water.
