Sideboard

This deck is focuses on destroying your opponents strategies.

The mana base is consistent enough to where double blue or red is easy to obtain.

3xMutavault These man lands are used to rack in some damage when your opponents tap out.

The main deck spells are:

4xSyncopate This is an ideal counterspell allowing versatility by baiting a opponent into paying it or by simply exiling a card from their deck. The exiling effect is extremely helpful if your opponent running Whip of Erebos or Elixir of Immortality.

4xDissolve Whats not to love you counter a spell for 3 mana and get a scry.

2xCounterflux An additional counterspell with the worst case scenario of having to overload it to regain board control if a stack gets ridiculously large.

3xIzzet Charm Here is the bread and butter of a counter/burn. A value card with three options provided the scenario. First off is a Negate with pay 2 to deal with pesky cards such as Detention Sphere or Underworld Connections. Next up is the simple Shock of two damage to a creature (adios aggro creatures). Then my favorite aspect of the Faithless Looting draw two discard 2 two, the reason I enjoy this so much because if you draw a dead card like a third mana in a row you can draw two fresh cards and dump the dead cards. I've used this to get a counterspell off the top many a time. Izzet Charm is just a three for one card in my opinion.

2xLightning Strike Well this isn't my Searing Spear but close enough, three damage to a creature or player is a solid choice in any burn deck.

2x Turn / Burn A burn spell if you need it or a solution for a bulky creature like my arch-enemy DD (Desecration Demon), pro-red creatures, and especially annoying abilities like lifelink.

2xMizzium Mortars While I love this card because the 4 damage in early or late game, it doesn't follow the flow with its sorcery speed. Running this card mainboard making Brimaz, King of Oreskos a scared kitten with his legion of wimps or make Blood Baron of Vizkopa wish he was pro-red instead of pro-white. My favorite thing about this card is dropping one of my win-cons and my opponent plays their hand of creatures of thinking I screwed up by not saving counterspell mana then just wiping their board barren during my main phase 1. This card is sideboarded out against most control match-ups.

3xAnger of the Gods What if Mizzium Mortars and Pillar of Flame had a baby? Well this card would be it. Sure it shares both cards sorcery speed and their combined mana cost but it makes up with a mass of 3 damage flooding the board exiling your opponent's army. I heard you run Sylvan Caryatid to make up for your bad mana curve or maybe Xathrid Necromancer in a human oriented aggro deck. This card is for majority of match-ups but is sideboarded out against fellow control decks.

3xMagma Jet An amazing burn card in so many ways. A two damage spell that targets a creature or player eh might as well run Shock but wait it has scry two! Well worth the additional mana since it can help you plot out your strategy for the next two turns getting max value from your current cards.

2xOpportunity To put it simply I like drawing cards. Drawing is blue's specialty and card advantage is key for control decks. Plus we lack Sphinx's Revelation.

2xRal Zarek More commonly known as a Tibalt like planeswalker (Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded). This is a comment made from people angry that their favorite color-combo-guild didn't get a planeswalker. Ral is a multi-purpose card since he can untap our mana while taping an opponents to rush their decision on playing a instant. He'll throw a Searing Spear at the opponent or one of their endangered creatures. Last is Ral's trump card, flip a coin 5 times and reap from the results. Most opponents swipe before I can use his ultimate but the many times I've used it I've always got at least two extra turns. This ultimate plus Keranos, God of Storms is a nice combo of card advantage and burn power. These aren't Ral's only abilities though, he draws in a decent amount of damage keeping you flowing with loyalty (HP its called Loyalty in the how to play packets(theres your random fact for the day)).

2xJace, Architect of Thought Say that you drew very poorly and are being rushed down by weenies, Jace drops the illusion magic showing Gandalf screaming you shall not pass as his +1. He also is kind enough to build you a decent hand size with his mind magic. these two abilities make him a powerful planeswalker but his ultimate is amazing. Lets see you have a Elspeth, Sun's Champion I gotta try that her out with my AEtherling. Another moment where if they can't stop this ability from happening they swipe. This makes Jace a more threatening target than yourself making him like Ral, a damage sponge.

1xKeranos, God of Storms Your prayers have been answered and Keranos would love to enlighten you why. First off he is indestructible and since he isn't going to become a creature he avoids combos like Turn / Burn or Silence the Believers. He may reveal the first card you draw a turn but he justifies it by giving you a second card or by striking your opponent, this isn't just to pull of the abilities but to intimidate your opponent. there are two reason I only optimize one Keranos though which is the heavy amount of Deicide being playing in my local meta and I don't want to draw a dead card like a second Keranos. Keranos, God of Storms is a win condition since he deals consistent damage and is hard to remove.

1xAEtherling Next up is the untouchable shapeshifter. Opponents hate it when they board out all removal just to have this deadly man resolve. Even if they keep removal he blinks off the damage or destruction. Oh no your opponent somehow has board presence lets make AEtherling unblockable and a 8/1 a swing, then before the end of the turn blink him to where he is untapped and a blocker that can become a 1/8 if needed or blink before damage to negate it. This is where our creature threat comes from, one single creature, aggro beware.

1xElixir of Immortality Basically like other control decks we lack methods to regain expended spells and unlike many other control decks we lack life gain. Here is the solution.

Sideboard:

2xDispel This is to oppose our fellow control and/or burn decks giving us a response to a Boros Charm, Sphinx's Revelation, or any other ridiculous instant.

1xNegate Well I do love this card but in my meta there is a ridiculous amount of aggro. (To summarize it I would say there is a 70% aggro, 20% control, 5% of combos, and 5% homebrew in my meta consisting of three town btw.) In many cases I do sideboard it in but there are many decks when Dispel or Annul fill the role better.

2xCounterflux Just didn't want to have a overflow of three drops mainboard so I spilt Counterflux.

1xIzzet Charm I had to blance the mana curve a bit more thoroughly.

1xLightning Strike Needed room for an additional land.

1xMizzium Mortars This is so I don't have a overflow of dead spells against control decks that like myself running no or very few creatures.

1xPithing Needle Well lets see your Elspeth watch our staring match.

2xRatchet Bomb Mistcutter solution or in worst case solid enchantment removal.

2xStormbreath Dragon This is for when our opponents are running a deck with little to no removal. Its a good round two suprise after there's no pesky removal spells left to target it.My goal is to make Izzet a threat to all competitive builds.

Izzet Pride! Please +1 so I can help make this deck better.
