I do need some help with the sideboard, so if any of you have ideas...

what is the reasoning behind playing tormenting voice over cathartic reunion?

July 1, 2017 11:35 p.m.

Currently? It's a land-light deck and people love Censoring spells that have that kind of extra cost. I've considered it. It's worth testing if people play more aggro and less U/R control.

I just wanted to ask if you have play tested this deck and if so what hurts it the most?

July 9, 2017 3:52 p.m.

shame2rest-I've started to playtest it a bunch, yeah. Essentially if the opponent can play a hexproof threat or is on ridiculously aggro humans, they can beat it. However, versus a lot of linear aggro strategies like mono-black zombies, we just have so much burn that we use it on their creatures and kill them with Thermo-Alchemist and Firebrand Archer instead of burning them to the face. Control can give it headaches if they play a billion cheap counters, but control's pretty rare right now.

Well how about combining Soul-Scar Mage with Sweltering Suns just to soften up any blows they could do mind you its expensive and kinda sux but I've had it used against me and its hard to recover from because even if say Bristling Hydra lives its so much weaker and not even worth saving anymore

I've run the mage to some extent. Not my fave. I much prefer Monastery Swiftspear, and the wrath is not appealing. I'm thinking of trying to snag a couple Glorybringer to go over the top.

Well my suggestion is more of a side board kinda thing just for heavy hex proof or to deal with big creature swarms

July 10, 2017 5:27 p.m.

Ye, that might work. The wrath just neatly blows up all my things as well.

I haven't played it, but Shreds of Sanity seems like it should be a better card that does something on its own. It trades two cards from your hand for two in your graveyard, which have to be sorcery and instant and it costs three mana. How has your experience been with it?

I also think that Sunscorched Desert is better than your Desert of the Fervent, because it deals guaranteed damage that can't be countered and doesn't slow you down at all. Sure, cycling it in the late game is nice, but I feel that the 1 damage is better. Also not perfectly sure, but I'm much much happier to see Sunscorched Desert in my starting hand than this one and I'm also not totally unhappy to topdeck it in the late game.

One more nice card you could consider is Hungry Flames, which is awesome against creatures that are small enough and deals damage at the same time. Also fits your budget theme.

Regarding the previous comment about Tormenting Voice vs. Cathartic Reunion: You can always hold back one land in your hand in case you'd draw a Tormenting Voice. But what are you going to do when you topdeck Cathartic Reunion? Always hold back two lands? Wait a turn and hope to draw something bad so you can discard it to reunion? If you draw something good you'll play it and still have two dead cards in your hand. With Tormenting Voice you'd be able to draw two useful cards instead. Since you're not benefiting much from throwing things in your graveyard, except for Fiery Temper, I don't see why Cathartic Reunion would be better.

Have you considered Dynavolt Tower for this deck? But yeah fantastic deck man! +1!

July 12, 2017 2:01 p.m.

RowdyMagic18, yeah actually I have. However, with all the splash artifact hate running around, it seems loose, especially as Thermo-Alchemist and Firebrand Archer actually do more damage for less spells. That said, it might be an interesting idea come September, when some of my alternate finishers rotate.

I think Dynavolt Tower is going to be bad until it rotates because of Abrade entering the format in all red control decks :/

Yeah... standard Ramunap Red. Good luck playing this on a budget after the Pro Tour.

July 30, 2017 4:49 p.m.

Joke's on the Pros. I bought this list for $40 a week before Pro Tour. Now the cards are worth over $200. Apparently I have good timing.

Like it but still on fence on rigging runner. Think I like Flameblade Adept bit more. Currently trying out Consuming Fervor went 4-0 Saturday and that card put in work. My current build My deck:

Redhead with Da Booty - RDW Ixalan
