Don't believe TappedOut's estimated price. For some stupid reason they always choose the most expensive version of the card. I just got this deck for 184 tix. Not they're estimated 343. Every single card.

Whats tix, is it like a currency ?

Looking at your commander I immediately want to do something with the new Guilds of Ravnica cards that count instant and sorceries in exile.

Crackling Drake + Fling ? Beacon Bolt + Mogg Maniac ? xD

In the actually helpful range, it sounds like you're doing some tournament play, which usually means you get a sideboard if you want one. Have you thought about Burning Wish , Cunning Wish etc. To give you some more space to play with?

But seriously - doomsday pile with Crackling Drake and hit for 44. It's not the BEST play, but it's a funny way to die.

Also: Epic Experiment ? What are your thoughts?

drcatherwood Yes. Tix are the term for event tickets, that you purchase on the MTGO app, then you exchange these event tickets for cards on cardhoarder or mtgotraders.

@Cloudchaser.Kestrel I think the combos you mentioned are actually super funny and neat, thank you for bringing those to my attention. If you came up with that stuff on yourself that is most impressive... And yea, Epic experiment was a card i had not even new about. It looks super fun and if i ever make a more causal list i may play it. The problem with it is unlike torment of hailfire, it does not 100% win the game on the spot. I appreciate your comments and come back anytime!

This is really cool. You appear to have a bit of a Wheels subtheme, so maybe Arjun, the Shifting Flame ? Also, you could add the new jace from WAR when it comes out as Lab Man number 2. I am mostly a green player so I can’t help you very much with a Grixis list, sorry :(.

TypicalTimmy - you are indeed correct! I have looked at the new jace and have wondered about him but I am still not swayed wuth the idea of running it. the three blue can be harsh but it being tougher to remove has an upside which i had not thought about. Ill see if I pull one if not i most likely wont buy one.

I think that new Jace. Wielder of Mysteries is a good looking card, and seems to fit what you want to do with your LabMan win-cons. His abilities can also facilitate that, and his +1 can be a nice tutor-screw against opponents that tutor to the top of the their library.

This deck looks nice, and it sounds like you've got it very tightened up. Sorry I can't offer much more help on it, but I can offer a +1!

Basalt Monolith kinda sux. you could use Grim Monolith depending on your budget.

Here are my thoughts, in no particular order

Your land base is just 1 card away from running Tainted Pact for use with Labman lines. You should ditch that 2x island and run it. Also run the new Jace as a back up.

Omniscience + Show and Tell should be cut. Replace with Dramatic Reversal + Isochron Scepter . Its a more compact win, doesn't have the opportunity to blow up in your face, combos with Top and Copy Artifact, and both pieces have higher quality than the pieces they are replacing.

You run a lot of large CMC junk cards that will either end as dead draws or don't win upon resolving. Consecrated Sphinx should be put into play with reanimation, but since you don't run you should cut. Bolas's Citadel is just a bad Ad Nauseum. The handful of wheel cards over 3 CMC should be cut. Why spend that time giving your opponents cards on a soft combo when you could be tutoring and winning with the very easy A + B of Labman + pact? Specifically, Time Spiral Wheel and Deal Reforge the Soul Whispering Madness . Replace those cards with more format staple counterspells and removal. Swan Song Dispel Flusterstorm Red Elemental Blast Abrade Shattering Spree .

Really not wild about Molten Psyche or Winds of Change either. You are losing card advantage on both (-1 to be precise). Notion Thief and Waste Not are both strong when used with a wheel, but it isn't worth devoting that many deck slots to combos that don't explicitly win. You would be better off running tutors instead, which will help you get whichever A or B part of the Notion Wheel combo you don't have in your hand.

You really don't need to run Mission Briefing if you are running Snapcaster AND yawgill AND past in flames.

You should highly consider Chain of Vapor as well as Hurkyl's Recall . Both allow you to gain mana and storm when combined with the mana positive rocks, which feeds into your Aetherflux Reservoir line. They also double as removal and can combo break opponents who are trying to win.

You should include Mana Vault , its much better than Basalt Monolith . Thought Vessel should also be cut, even Prismatic Lens is better. The no maximum hand size will literally never be relevant, because if you are drawing that many cards you should be able to win instead of passing the turn. If you do have to discard down to 7, just keep the 7 that allow you to win and protect the win. You should also run Chrome Mox because of the high card advantage you generate.

28 lands means you're in danger of getting staxed out, very easily. Any artifact hate with early taxes means you're caught and discarding cards for multiple turns. The land base you're running could also use a tune up. You should include the painlands Underground River etc. as they enter untapped and provide color diversity without extra requirements. The two-or-more-opponents lands I'm not a fan of, but playing in a pod means they'll be live. The two-or-fewer-lands lands I'm not a fan of, and firmly believe you should cut. Checklands are fine, but replaceable long term. You should also run more rainbowlands, specifically Forbidden Orchard Gemstone Caverns Tarnished Citadel . If you are running Tolaria West as a 0 drop tutor, don't count it as a land towards your total, if you're running it as an island, it comes out tapped so cut it.

You should get a creature sweeper. Earthquake is great and can double as a wincon if you're above opponents in life, also ignores Kess. Pyroclasm clears opposing mana dorks for very cheap.

Your cantrips are a bit goofy too. Thought Scour should be replaced with Sleight of Hand , which gives you more flexibility about the card you get as well as gets around draw restrictions such as Alms Collector or Spirit of the Labyrinth . Fact or Fiction is simply too much CMC. I'm personally not a fan of Scroll Rack but that's entirely your call.

Terminate should be Pongify or Rapid Hybridization . Its 1 cmc cheaper and less color intensive, and if you lose to a 3/3 token you were going to lose anyways. Notably, Kess can kill the token by blocking.

Narset, Parter of Veils seems like a strong include. She would pair nicely with Teferi's Puzzle Box . Magus of the Will would give you another Yawgmoth's Will , should you need a bit more of the effect.

Nice deck, you seem to have your bases covered and I'm a bit too casual to know what kind of suggestions to give beyond maybe Unwinding Clock for more utility out of your manarocks and being able to use your Sensei's Divining Top every turn

Overall the deck is very solid. I've gone against a few of these and you have your counterspell basis covered very nicely. The win conditions are good as well. Torment of Hailfire, Lab Maniac, AEther Flux, all good ones just a few I saw right off the bat.

The only thing I didn't like in the deck were the talismans as you do take a point of damage. I really think you're a bit too heavy on the mana rocks. I think having the 9 you would be good and the other 3 spots could open up to tutor cards or even more win conditions.

The other one I wasn't too keen on was the Night's Whisper. Sure drawing 2 cards is good but losing 2 life kind of hurts. Playing this commander you'll be targeted hard especially with this build and if your play group or store starts to know the deck each little lose of life may come back to haunt you eventually.

You're running so many draw cards I would probably run Consecrated Sphinx

Those are just a few suggestion but overall pretty nice. Wouldn't want to come against this deck for sure.

LanceBluPaladin Thanks for your input! So Far I like the talisman for the color fixing but you may be right. Trust me my play group knows the deck and I am targeted first but nights whisper is solid so far but I could look at other two mana card draws. Also I do run the Sphinx LOL, yo must of missed it

July 14, 2019 6:49 p.m.

Yeah I did. Your set up of how cards are listed is a bit different so I didn't see it in the draw section.

July 14, 2019 8:36 p.m.

Have you thought about running Glint-Horn Buccaneer? Since you do run Notion thief, if you're able to wheel while Notion is out, then wheel again on same turn, that's game over for your opponents.

I’ve read through the deck list but I haven’t read all the way through the comments as there’s a lot of them! Haha. So I’m sorry if I recommend anything that may have been covered above.

You could run Cabal Coffers to combo with Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth , since you’re running minimal basics you could just cut a swamp anyway and it wouldn’t make much difference.

Also if you’re discarding a lot then Archfiend of Ifnir could be a good way for you to control the and make sure no ones got any creatures to swing your way?

Also maybe Leyline of Anticipation or Vedalken Orrery might be able to be of some use, if you need to tutor for something at instant speed, you could maybe cut one the mana rocks as 12 of those is plenty.

Hope you find this useful :)

I see you already have Demonic Consultation and Jace, Wielder of Mysteries . In the upcoming series, there will be another card to extend your combo (some wizard, I fogot the name), but you should think of it. Anyway - seems very solid and very dangerous :)

Yo drcatherwood, I play Kess quite a lot and I like the super combo feel ya did to your version! Have ever considered running the Underworld Breach combo with Lion's Eye Diamond? It goes in conjunction with Thassa's Oracle/Laboratory Maniac/Jace, Wielder of Mysteries line. Another cool line that you can run that goes hand in hand with a lot of your cards is adding in Copy Artifact to go Twin Scepter combo, add in Reality Shift or Lightning Bolt than you can either bolt people to death or Reality Shift their whole deck provided they have a creature on the field. Another thing since ya added Swan Song, you can go make infinite birdies as well.

Ya get a +1 from me!

hkhssweiss you are right! I did run the underwold breach for a bit without the LED but it didnt feel to great. If I could afford the LED I would run both, at the moment the only proxy I have is the time twister and the og dual and I want to keep it as low as possible. Those 2 do not bother me much bc they can be replaced EZ for tournaments but the LED and UB are a whole line of play. I will look into copy artifact more it could prove to be useful. Thank you for great ideas!!
