Any reason you chose Desecration Demon over a second copy of AEtherling or Blood Baron of Vizkopa or even Obzedat, Ghost Council ? Also, Syncopate makes a better counter to me than Render Silent , since it exiles, and is more easy on the mana cost. Dimir Charm is something I wouldn't run, and I think you could use some Far / Away and the fourth Detention Sphere .

I just don't have the extra copy of either. Personally I love Dimir Charm though, I feel like its really under utilized and its great for quick removal. It is a very recently built deck though and I'm playing around with it. I'm changing the sideboard around though so I think I'll add some Syncopate

3 Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver seems like too many to me. I would drop at least one of him and up the number of Elspeth, Sun's Champion . I would also recommend trying to add another Blood Baron of Vizkopa as he wrecks most decks in the meta right now. Other than that, looks pretty solid.

Problem is, I have the third Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver and don't have the extra Elspeth of Blood Baron. With that being said though, I am a huge fan of Ashiok in this deck and it has been helping me a lot, but I will probably be replacing the third with either Sphinx's Revelation or Elspeth, Sun's Champion maybe even the other Blood Baron of Vizkopa . Really just depends which I can get my hands on first ha.

No Azorius Charm in an esper deck is really not easy to do.

As Esper you should run 3 things regardless:

Azorius Charm

Supreme Verdict

Sphinx's Revelation

I also feel like you will not fare well against an aggro deck. Let me play test against my RDW.

Also look at my esper if you care too: Anti-Aggro Esper Control

I've got the charms in the side, can't really afford to lose any mainboard cards I feel

I'm actually not sold on the Azorius Charm at all. There aren't many creatures, so the lifelink isn't particularly valuable. Bouncing a creature is nice, but with access to black it's probably more efficient to just kill it. And the cycle effect is terrible for card draw. All I ever really find myself doing is cyclling, and there are much better options available to draw.

Yea I agree, if I were worried about the card draw I would just run some Quicken

I feel like you shouldn't run Blood Baron of Vizkopa . Yes, it's good for it's effects, but the only way you gain life is through Sphinx's Revelation . Through the shocklands and your opponent you might want to consider another card, like maybe bringing back Obzedat, Ghost Council .

Well, point A, I don't currently have Obzedat lol. Point B, I prefer Blood Baron for his less restrictive mana cost, and the Pro White/Black. Pro white and black pretty much wrecks the meta around here right now. Shuts mono black down almost completely, takes the win over B/W midrange, and does really well against the mirror match of Esper.

All that being said, Blood Baron will not be coming out of the deck, but I am not opposed to adding Obzedat as soon as I can get one.

Pretty solid deck, my friend! I've been testing out a mono-green build (which is entirely outside of what I usually like to build), and this deck was a stressful-yet-fun test. Very resilient to pressure, and difficult to pin down. Certainly the only time I've had a playtest where a Worldspine Wurm on the board was a total non-issue. Bravo, friend! +1

I feel like alot of these control decks run Elixir of Immortality to help recycle your deck.

I agree. But what would I replace?

Maybe cut 1x Hero's Downfall and 1x Supreme Verdict for 2x Elixir of Immortality . You have a ton of removal, and too much may screw you over against other control decks.

I'd get rid of Syncopate. It used to be much better when Snapcaster Mage was in standard, but with the devotion decks & Nykthos of today, it's not worth dropping a ton of mana into exiling a spell. Replace them with just Negate , so you can have cheaper non-creature counterspells.

Hero's Downfall has the benefit of targeting planeswalkers, but most often it'll be creature removal. I'd drop down to only 2 of them, and add 2x Doom Blade , then I'd drop 2x Dissolve and add 2x Ultimate Price . That way you can worry less about saving your mana for countering their spells on their turn, and just remove resolved creatures after the fact for cheaper.

4x Supreme Verdict strikes me as a bit much, I'd side out 2 of them to mainboard your Omenspeaker s instead, the scry can make your next few plays count a lot more.

Doing all this will lower your mana curve and hopefully make your deck work a bit more efficiently.

I'd replace the Drown in Sorrow 's with Doomblade's. As cool as Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver is, I don't think she fits the deck. I'd replace her with 1x Elixir of Immortality , 1x Sphinx's Revelation and 1x Jace, Architect of Thought . Or if you'd rather removal over card draw, 2x Azorius Charm instead of the Sphinx and Jace.

In my opinion, Omenspeaker is good, but not good enough. I'd replace her with 1x Jace, Memory Adept and another Gainsay .

February 20, 2014 2:13 p.m.

I have a deck pretty similar to this but I don't run Ashioks. What made you decide to run it and why as a three of? What meta are you up against?

February 20, 2014 6:56 p.m.

mpeach1 says... #19

Ashiok is just in general a fantastic card, I feel like it doesn't get the credit it deserves. Ashiok does work, and has earned its spot in the deck. I enjoyed it a lot in the grixis deck combining with all the creature hate, and it still serves that purpose in epser.

Meta wise though, I'm up against mostly aggro, monsters, as well as mono-blue/black

February 20, 2014 9:33 p.m.

Hmmm. Yeah I have two but kind of look at it as a stand alone card that idk what to think of. Early game it's great against creature based decks, because hwy, damage wise he's hard to kill and it grabs a lot of attention but at the end of the day I always end up going with something else.
