I would put in black lotus and ...... I was going to say just something random but do you really have no freaking thoughtseize?

July 7, 2014 3:52 p.m.

mpeach1 says... #2

@ Levelfailer lol, Thoughtseize has came and gone in play sets, just not as powerful as I want in this she'll. After rotation I'm sure I'll find them a home again though

Very nice deck, I did beat a deck like this with white weenies but the kid had no idea what was happening and he played a land pretty much every turn until I beat him, no spells, just land. This could be very hard to beat in the right hands though...Oh im not here to offer advice, just admiring your handiwork. +1 from me

I see a lot of stall and control, but with only 3 creatures (not counting mutavault) is this deck supposed to win through attrition? I'm having trouble understanding the win condition (unless there is none and it's simply meant to be a very frustrating deck to play against, but that seems unlikely). So what am I missing?

Elspeth, Blood Baron, and Aetherling tend to end games quickly when theyre backed up by counter spells, removal, and sphinx'x revelation.

Red_Brews is correct. @ borosdrunkard : I think you're missing the point of control. 3 creatures is 2 more than the average Esper deck these days. You say no, a bunch of times, and control the game, and then drop a bomb, something hard to deal with and ends games fast such as AEtherling and Blood Baron of Vizkopa . Elspeth, Sun's Champion also gets the job done very efficiently.

Not every deck needs creatures. borosdrunkard I would suggest playtesting the deck, or even play against it, and you will see.

mpeach1 I found it unsettling that of the 60 cards in the decklist, only 6 of them are capable of dealing damage to an opponent, and to me that seems low, even with Sphinx's Revelation . You don't need creatures to win (4x Lava Axe gets the job done), but you need to be able to deal damage, and the damage output here seems very low to me. Of course I'm biased, since control is one of my least favourite playstyles, but if you say you only need 6 creatures to get it done, well then that's impressive.

@ borosdrunkard : in actuality I only need one, AEtherling gets the job done himself no problem, he's ridiculously hard to get rid of and swings 8 unblockable at a time. I just also use Blood Baron because he wrecks the standard meta

AEtherling IS a win condition

kickass deck.. & affordable! If you.. you know, work for a law firm or something.

2 questions. 1: Do you actually own these cards in foil? 2: Can I have some money?

July 10, 2014 11:25 p.m.

mpeach1 says... #11

@ cruxkid lol, I have all these foils except 1x Supreme Verdict and I had the 4th but needed to trade it. But this deck took me months to build, and it costed me heavy trades along with selling multiple decks to get the cards. I'm actually pretty broke in reality lol, so no you cannot have any money :p

Thanks for noticing the kickassness though

Question: Why 2x Dissipate and only 3x Dissolve ? Right now Dissolve seems a lot better to me, because of the lack of heavy GY interaction.

July 29, 2014 10:02 p.m.

mpeach1 says... #17

@ corythackston honestly, because I do really like Dissipate especially with things like Whip of Erebos and whatnot, and I only have 3 of the Dissolve promos lol. Also, that fills up my counter spots and I'd rather run 2x Dissipate over just 1

July 29, 2014 10:21 p.m.

raptor77 says... #18

Maybe side board a few more counter spells for heavy red damage decks

July 30, 2014 9:37 p.m.

Quantillus says... #19

The Dissipate is good against Chandra's Phoenix and some of the graveyard shenanigans in fringe decks. Especially since there are no Detention Sphere in the main.

Not sure about so many copies of Bile Blight and Hero's Downfall . The double black is really harsh on your manabase. I've found being lighter on black symbols has been better for my list - Quant's Esper Control. Doom Blade and Devour Flesh should get the job done nicely.

How's Jace, the Living Guildpact working for you? Seems sub-par to me at the moment, although, i'm sure he'll be an auto include come rotation.

August 7, 2014 3:54 a.m.

mpeach1 says... #20

The double blacks don't really hurt at all, the mana is fixed pretty defently, especially with the addition of Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth . New Jace is actually working out pretty well, yes not the best planeswalker ever, but what he does, he does effectively, has actually been helping out a lot more than expected.

August 7, 2014 9:57 a.m.

I really like this build. How're the sideboarded D-Sphere's working out for you? I tried that tactic out for a while, but then people suddenly stopped playing Golgari at my meta for some reason.

If you would, check out my build and let me know what you think Just another Esper Control Build. +1

Asher18 says... #22

Any idea on how to face rotation, or will you just let it slide by?

August 10, 2014 6:50 p.m.

mpeach1 says... #23

D sphere in the side has been working out fine actually, haven't really even needed to side them in often.

As for rotation, I'm really not sure, a lot of the control essentials are rotating iut, and we still have no idea khans of tarkir will have to offer, so I'm not sure I'll even stick to Esper after rotation, gonna need to see the spoilers before I fully formulate the new builds

August 10, 2014 7:05 p.m.

As of right now, I'm dropping to two colors until I can hammer down my esper build. Here's that one, Not sure how it'll fare in the rotation though Dimir Cruel Control(post Rotation).
