Here the combo with Archive Trap is very good, because you have many Path to Exile and Ghost Quarter ! :). But I think that you don't need Nephalia Drownyard and Duskmantle, House of Shadow , they are very slow and Sunken Ruins /Drowned Catacomb are better. Another tip is that Jace's Phantasm should be put in every mill deck, it is just awesome (but you must have also other mill cards like Breaking ). I think also that you should put in your sideboard something like Witchbane Orb .

Anyway, +1 for me :)

Duskmantle, House of Shadow is useless, Nephalia Drownyard is a lot better, Underground River is not good too, better give 2x Watery Grave or more fetch lands. Maybe Mana Leak for me better then Psychic Strike , (Ass comment above) Ghost Quarter is not rlly good in this deck better give 2 more collored lands. From cards that can be interesting is Piracy Charm and Supreme Verdict

I love esper decks, big +1

Thanks guys for the love and comments!! I took out Duskmantle, House of Shadow for another Godless Shrine I pulled the other day. @borto1412, I'll consider Jace's Phantasm , good suggestion! Breaking is almost as good as Glimpse the Unthinkable and perhaps worth a look. Witchbane Orb is definitely a good sideboard card I must acquire!

@ jochn11, Psychic Strike offers more utility in this deck than Mana Leak , plus it's a hard counter. Ghost Quarter is actually VERY good here as it combos with Archive Trap and sets my opponent back. I've definitely considered Supreme Verdict for the 'cannot be countered' effect, but the double WW and U cost has me concerned. Piracy Charm is a neat little utility card! Mayhap I'll pick some up for the sideboard.

Nemesis of Reason vs Consuming Aberration . For me abberation is a lot better, yes he can die when grave is empty but his abbility is awsome in deck with a lot of cheap spells, Nemesis don't have flying and chance to deal dmg to player is... low. He is not good deffender and he is not very fast, imo better to defend is Fog Bank or Jace's Phantasm . Consuming Aberration can kill 1 hit, Nemesis of Reason can't. Idk good sites of this creature. (btw Nemesis of Reason can be good with Artful Dodge or Faith's Shield )

May 19, 2013 6:06 p.m.

Both have huge targets on their heads...lol. Consuming Aberration has a trigger when you cast a spell, and a greater damage potential. I'm not concerned with life total as the win- con of this deck is mill my opponent out by turn 5-7. I like Nemesis of Reason for his attack trigger; they automatically mill 10 cards. So Nemesis is like Glimpse the Unthinkable on a stick whereas Consuming Aberration is like Mind Funeral with a body. He has potential and would be an auto- include if he had a CMC of 4, as my 5 slots are taken...

then in this way better give 1 more Jace, he on enter mill 10 cards and opponent can't use spells like Vapor Snag and if he will not die its end of game

I know you want mill deck but if your opponent will block your startegy you need alternative way to win. (it's only my opinion)

(I know it's borto1412 idea but maybe 1x Oboro, Palace in the Clouds
for Hedron Crab ?)

I must say that I play mill since Ravnica, and win a match just by mill is very very difficoult...jochn11 is right... That's why Consuming Aberration /Artful Dodge combo is absolutely awesome in this kind of deck. I think also that you should concentrate yourself just in one strategy (mill)... You probably don't need both Day of Judgment and Black Sun's Zenith , they just occupy slots and slow your strategy. Augur of Bolas is also a very dangerous card (for you)... what about if it sends to the bottom of the library Glimpse the Unthinkable or Jace, Memory Adept ?

Keep milling ;)

Thanks jochn11, if effect Oboro, Palace in the Clouds makes Hedron Crab 's effect nicer :)

I have one question aeonstoremyliver, how to make alternative graphic for cards?

May 20, 2013 3:37 p.m.

@jochn11 At the bottom of the page is a 'Formatting Tips' link. :-)

@ borto1412 Actually Day of Judgment and Black Sun's Zenith save my ass! Without board wipes I'm facing creatures that are difficult to deal with.

As far as thwarting a mill strategy, most players don't have many cards to do so. The Eldrazi (like Emrakul, the Aeons Torn for instance) are a few, however Surgical Extraction takes then out of the equation. Also Leyline of the Void (which I need to obtain) deals with them well. Very few decks run Wheel of Sun and Moon , but in the event they do I've sideboarded Disenchant . Augur of Bolas let's me reveal an instant or sorcery and put it into my hand, then send the rest to the bottom of my library. Excellent tutor and chump blocker, IMO. The Palace in the Clouds could be interesting, but the fetch lands I have trigger Landfall quite well. May have to consider that one...

In testing this, with a nuts hand I've milled my opponent by turn 4. Average win is turn 5-7, but with board wipes, spot removal, and control, I can afford to stall till then. I have considered Fog type effects, but against Burn they're useless...

I look for broken combos all the time and exploit them. lol

June 1, 2013 11:51 a.m.

Haha! Disciple of the Vault + Myr Retriever + Ashnod's Altar . Add some Perilous Myr , Glissa, the Traitor , and Krark-Clan Ironworks in for good measure!

Still a work in progress:

Glissa Gets Grape Aped

i like what you have as the use of Path to Exile was something that I had considered, but just decided to stay U/B. I do say adding in Visions of Beyond is a good idea even if as a 2-of since it will keep fuel in your hand (even though it takes a turn or two). Otherwise, I think it looks good

December 1, 2013 2:19 p.m.

The spot removal is great and makes the land retrieval trigger Archive Trap .

So you agree -2x Nemesis of Reason for +2x Visions of Beyond ?

December 1, 2013 3:16 p.m.

I do agree. I believe it will all around better for your deck as it will allow plenty of answers to fill your hand along with more milling. Nemesis of Reason is one I did want to use at one time, but I just feel it's too slow when you can really turbo mill your opponent with other options. Visions of Beyond has proved amazing almost every time I've used it (except for the occasional times that you do just draw 1)

December 1, 2013 4:41 p.m.

Groovy. An optimal situation would be Crab turn 1, turn 2 fetch to mill for 6 then Glimpse or something similar for 10, Trap on their turn pending they fetch or tutor, then Visions turn 3. It's virtually an Ancestral Recall lol.

December 1, 2013 5:14 p.m.

The exact reason it's so good here. It's very possible that you will be using it as an Ancestral Recall . That card alone can refill your hand and bring you right back into the game from no where

December 1, 2013 5:30 p.m.

Since you are playing Esper, I'd go -3 Black Sun's Zenith for +2 Glimpse and +1 Supreme Verdict for all the control players in modern right now. It seems that you're pretty light on mill cards since taking out the milling creatures. I'd maybe cut a few Owls for a few Breaking or at least to fill out the set of Thought Scour or Visions of Beyond . I had pretty good success at GP Richmond with my mill deck if you want to check it out - Greatest Modern Milling Machine Ever Made!

March 18, 2014 7:40 a.m.

I've been thinking about taking out the BSZ for 2x Supreme Verdict for awhile now. Thanks!

Augury Owl 's Scry 3 has come in very handy, not to mention the 1/1 flying chump. Snappy doubles as any spell, mostly another Archive Trap or Glimpse. If Glimpse wasn't so salty, I'd pick up the other two; Breaking seems to be a good substitute.

I was considering 4x Remand as a substitute for Augury Owl . What do you think, @GeminiSpartanX?

And I'll scope your deck!
