one thing you should know is that Sword of Light and Shadow doesn't protect against board wipes. Protection means that a creature can't be dealt damage by a source of that color, can't be enchanted or equipped by spells of that color, can't be blocked by creatures of that color, and can't be targeted by spells of that color. since board wipes don't target the equipped creature they can still destroy a creature with protection.

Good point. But I think that's what he meant by it being the outs against it. Or the only cards to remove creatures with it being equipped.

Yeah I know it'll still get wiped away. The ones I mentioned also prevent regeneration. Thanks though

If you ever find yourself falling short against single target, non-destroying removal such as Path to Exile, Oust, or Dismember, I would like to suggest Muck Drubb. The Madness mechanic synergizes especially well with Lotleth Troll, although the only other noteworthy card would be Big Game Hunter.

I really like Big Game Hunter. Muck Drubb I don't think I'll need, between Spellskite and Sword of Light and Shadow I should be pretty protected from Path to Exile and Dismember. especially out of sideboard, I've got 6 ways to protect the troll, and with Glissa, the Traitor spellskite is recurrable. which is pretty sweet. one cool interaction is attacking with spellskite in hand, Glissa, the Traitor and Lotleth Troll (or pack rat) in play, waiting for them to declare blocks, then discarding spellskite to get it back after glissa gets a kill.
Muck Drubb also fails to synergize with 3CMC for Collected Company. I think I'll find a way to get in a Big Game Hunter or two, I just have to make sure I never play it into a Lotleth Troll as the only creature power 4+.
thoughts on taking out Fulminator Mage from the mainboard for Big Game Hunter then dropping Murderous Cut from the side for the fulminators? I like the mages because they stop tron and amulet bloom (respond to their untap trigger by killing the Simic Growth Chamber and they're pretty done. I play the deck and it's pretty miserable to have done), then does well against affinity and infect.

add 4 Vengevine and Grisly Salvage in place of Spellskite, Glissa, the Traitor and Collected Company. You're already pretty close to dredgevine, why not finish the job?

If you do go more towards the dredgevine rout, you should also cut down some lands, you wouldn't really want to see more than 4 in a game. just add more Scavenging Ooze or Pack Rat or, if you're feeling really frisky, some Bloodsoaked Champion.

I think Bloodsoaked Champion is a cool thought, but overall I'm trying to avoid going dredgevine. I found in playtesting that I wasn't actually casting multiple creatures a turn without the self-mill package, and there's too much graveyard exile to depend on having my graveyard past game one in a dredgevine deck. I much prefer having a big, resilient troll. or glissa with a sword. I feel like this survives a slow start much better than dredgevine as well, where dredgevine tries to get all its creatures out as early as possible but loses in combat going into mid/late game against abzan, I can use Lotleth Troll, Glissa, the Traitor, Tasigur, the Golden Fang, and Scavenging Ooze to try to have creatures as big as a Siege Rhino, or glissa who just does beneficial combat with all of the modern format. with dredgevine you lose if they wipe your graveyard, or play a Rest in Peace. with this, I can just play on without it, only slightly damaged.
while dredgevine is a good deck, this isn't dredgevine. it's a different deck. still B/G, but I'm not trying to self-mill or force unnecessary amounts of cards into my graveyard, it's just too easy to silver-bullet away for my tastes in decks.

I used Lotleth Troll as a discard engine for Griselbrand, and then reanimated. I think you could do something similar for Woodfall Primus coupled with Footsteps of the Goryo.
You do also seem to have quite a few activated abilities so Necrotic Ooze comes to mind, Ooze as a Pack Rat that makes more Oozes so it kind of protects itself. I could go on....

I'm not sure I want to go the reanimator route. That feels like a separate deck than this.
Necrotic Ooze is worth testing though. I'll throw it on the list of things to test once I've thoroughly played this initial shell. if only finals weren't on the way. ..

I don't end up doing graveyard shenanigans as often as you would expect (I've only done limited testing at this point) and when I sideboard they're some of the first things that get sided out (it blanks opponents' hate cards, which is pretty relevant. people keep sketchy hands to hope on their hate, and if your deck is not doing what they want it to do, they'll be pretty hurt for it).
I want to stress that I'm not playing a graveyard-dependent deck, I'm playing a deck that can interact with the graveyard. I go the aggro plan sometimes, but dedicating space for 4 vengevine commits me too much to graveyard dependence for what I want.

Try running 4x Squee, Goblin Nabob. You never play him but he will always come back to your hand, guaranteeing +1/+1 every turn for each in your hand.

squee looks like fun. I'll absolutely test him, and maybe I'll add a singleton Stomping Ground and then have Ancient Grudges in my sideboard. I know playing squee isn't the goal, but sometimes you just need an extra chump blocker to live long enough, and he makes a very good chump blocker (having him against tron's Wurmcoil Engine seems entertaining. they can keep gaining life but they can't get in for the kill. Not actually good, but entertaining). I think I would only run him as a 2-of though, a I don't want too many of them and he's just bad if I don't hit a troll or rat. speaking of I think I'm going to dedicate more spots to Pack Rat because they just demand an answer. especially if I'm on the squee plan. I'll probably drop to three abrupt decay and two company to fit in squees (honestly I'm not sure I like company in this build after testing it a lot. It's often whiffing or just grabbing me bad creatures I would rather be discarding) and probably go down to two birds for the two more rats.

If you're worrying about not pulling a troll or rat and you want more of the discard mechanic maybe try out Razormane Masticore or any of the masticore family, really. They're all a little expensive, but it may be worth looking in to. And if you want more chump blockers then you can't get any cheaper than Basking Rootwalla. Besides that, all I'd say you need is a bit more card draw and this would be an awesome deck (Sign in Blood is always fun)! +1 btw, I like this deck the more I look at it.

I'm not going the masticore route, way too expensive CMC wise.
rootwalla is interesting. I might consider it over like, a gravecrawler. I'll test it and probably end up on the gravecrawler, but an extra blocker at instant speed is pretty cool.

use Grisly Salvage and have potential to turn 2 a Tasigur.

I'm just not dedicated enough to self-mill for Grisly Salvage to be worthwhile. I want to play a creature on turn two. It's pretty important to the deck

T1 bird of paradise, T2 salvage, delve 5 for tasigur.
May 9, 2015 12:47 a.m.
t1: Eidolon of the Great Revel, t2: Tasigur ... that's what I did at my cLGS today.
My point is that Tasigur isn't hard to get on t2. The question is... is it always safe to do? Food for thought (Git Probe can give you that information).
