Couple of those cards are in my Oloro deck, so they're out unless this deck turns out to be a home run. I'll think about temporal extortion though...

With all that sacrifice, have you considered Mortician Beetle ?

I did not. I'm trying to get a balance of creatures who benefit from sacrificing like Fallen Angel and creatures that should be sacrificed. Any idea on what to take out for it?

for a similar style with a bigger tag, what about It That Betrays and Grave Betrayal ? bonus point to reanimate the eldrazi.

Rise of the Dark Realms . if you do, you might want to take out Ravenous Trap

True. I was hoping to keep in the graveyard exile spells, since there are a lot of people in my playgroup that run recycling style decks. I'll consider the It That Betrays , though I'll have to pick one up. I'd like to do a bit more testing with this deck to see how it fares before dumping any more cash/trade into it.

Well, I second the suggestion to run Cabal Coffers since it's absurd in monoblack (or Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx , either or both seems good). Then, with or without either of those lands, i'd absolutely run Exsanguinate as a win con. This paired with some mana doublers you could add such as Crypt Ghast , Gauntlet of Power , Caged Sun , Extraplanar Lens , or Nirkana Revenant can be brutal. I think that your deck looks strong, but that you've immersed yourself too deeply in one game plan, which may be too fragile to work consistently. I'd reevaluate some of your creature choices in particular, and perhaps add some more 'staple' 'good stuff' 'win con' cards such as Army of the Damned , Geth, Lord of the Vault , Eldrazi, and Mikaeus, the Unhallowed . Hope this helps!

KeeganG It's funny you mention Geth, I just picked up a copy and he's going to be my new commander, and I agree that it may be a little too immersed in sacrifice and gravedigging. I'm planning on adding in a Grave Betrayal as well as Exsanguinate , though I have yet to work on the mana base yet. Once I get the creature/spell flow down, then I'll start collecting the appropriate lands. I also have a Crypt Ghast that is going in there as well, but you're right that it needs a bit more in the win/con area.

Smokestack will definitely be in the maybe section. Probably going in, but man it's going to get a lot of hatred toward me. It should just be called "bullseye."

I am think that I may put a rush on developing the idea I had for a Sigarda, Host of Herons EDH.

If you really want to. Supposed I'll need some more board wipes then.

Ashnod's Altar , Altar of Dementia , and Phyrexian Altar are all great sac outlets to help trigger things like Grave Pact and Dictate of Erebos . Slum Reaper is another good creature to force sac. Great deck, keep up the good work.

The altars all go in my token style deck, but I think I'll look for a Slum Reaper . That's definitely along the lines of what I want going on in this one.

Indeed it is, though this deck doesn't really use recursion except from it's commander and the various other creatures that simply come back to my hand. My other deck The Evil Dead II focuses on recursion and I run an Animate Dead in there.

If you like the transfigured cards, look at the transmute ones for black: Brainspoil , Dimir House Guard - see your using that one, Dimir Machinations , Netherborn Phalanx , Shred Memory .
Not all are necessary but one or two can come in really useful depending on the mana cost of the things you'd want to tutor up in your deck:
Shred Memory could give you a little graveyard control over an opponent in a pinch, or be a tutor for Black sun Zenith, Profane Command, Demonic Tutor, Exsanguinate, Reassembling Skeleton as well as other things.
Brainspoil has use as an extra kill spell while being a tutor, but your targets seem to be a bit more limited. Still something to consider as it can get you Sadistic Hypnotist, Black Market, or Dictate of Erebos.
You need a Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx . It is great for mono color.

I'm gonna look into getting a Shred Memory since there will be times that I want to tutor for a Vampire Hexmage or a Black Sun's Zenith among other things. Still looking to get a Nykthos because you are right, it is a beast in mono color. The Dimir Machinations could also be a contender since it's effect is decent for a quick sensei's top for myself, and a good answer to any tutors that drop cards on the top of libraries, and I can grab any of the library hatred cards in the deck since they're all 3 drops. Thanks for the suggestions.

Now that I see the Machinations is a sorcery...makes it a little less cool, but still may be useful for myself and it's tutor ability.
July 3, 2014 5:14 p.m.
I think shred memory is the best for you. Graveyard removal is always overlooked until you need it, and you've got some really nice two drops.
I really like the transmutes in general. I use Ethereal Usher and Drift of Phantasms in my Arcanis deck and they really are useful tools - though I've yet to actually cast one of those instead of transmute.
I've used Perplex in my Damia deck as an effective early game counter or tutor.
For whatever reason transmute has been overlooked a lot, but it can add a lot to your deck if built right and they are all cheap cards.
Also, this is a bit more of a money card but Necropotence is probably the best mono-black draw you could get... Outside of perhaps Skullclamp for this deck. Skullclamp + Reassembling Skeleton is a reusable draw 2 for 3 mana. You also have a bunch of other 1/1s for it to work with.

I've thought about putting Necropotence , but I'm already using it in my other deck The Shadow Knows which has a bunch of lifegain in it with Oloro, so it's much more useful in there. I may end up adding the Skullclamp , but again, it's in another deck that focuses on tokens Feeding on the Living, and sees much more use in that one than the few 1/1s I have in here. I agree that transmute is overlooked. It's funny that certain abilities just don't get a lot of play even though they're providing a tutor, which is very useful for any situation.

Decided to go with Erebos, God of the Dead rather than Necropotence , and swapped in a Gauntlet of Might for Swiftfoot Boots . Should give me some draw options, and considering the amount of black mana symbols I usually have in play I can get some use out of erebos as a creature.

Choice of Damnations could be a fun card to run to mess with someone. Temporal Extortion is just fun in mono black. Cabal Coffers , Bojuka Bog , and Crypt of Agadeem could be good lands. Killing Wave and Black Sun's Zenith may have been forgotten. Lethal Vapors and Tainted AEther can be fun to force people who like playing creatures to do things.
Necropotence
