Primer guide

I've been playing bant blade for a few years now, switching between this and jund as my primary/secondary decks. Right now, I like bant over jund even though darcy lists are performing well. I honestly think that bant blade can be a top deck, the only thing is that tempo decks can be difficult to pilot (especially for newer players).

As a primer, this is some stuff that this guide might help you with by providing:

  • Current card choices
    • Why
    • Possible Alternatives
  • Sideboard guide against meta decks
  • Common and interesting lines that can present themselves.

Mainboard

Lands

Most lands are pretty standard for bant blade lists. The standouts here could be Horizon Canopy and the Zagoth Triome.

  • Horizon Canopy
    • Can be replaced with Waterlogged Grove
    • With about 6 dorks, being able to pitch a land to draw is useful
  • Zagoth Triome

    • Can be replaced with any triome hitting 2 of the decks colors
    • Chosen with an off-color on purpose to help Prismatic Ending
  • Glasspool Mimic

    • Currently being considered in place of the Triome, as an extra blue card that can be pitched to FoN. Will have to evaluate further.

Walkers

You'll notice the lack of a Jace, the Mind Sculptor. The reason for this was basically Toski. However, Toski has since also been cut, with possibly doing 1 max in the deck. Jace doesn't really fit into the tempo plan, and it serves more as a control threat. But in the meta now a days, with many red decks, he's not a very strong walker.

Teferi, Time Raveler (3feri) is pretty standard in this list at the time of writing. It provides strong tempo plays bouncing a fresh saga (don't do this after they are past the first lore), creature, etc., and drawing a card. It's also built-in hate against the cascade decks currently popular in the meta, and any deck that wants to work at instant speed. The obvious synergies with Spell Queller is a cherry on top.

Creatures

Most creatures are standard, 6 mana dorks is especially useful with the 3 color base. Being able to drop a 3cmc threat on turn 2 is exactly the kind of play you want to be making most of the time, short of holding mana for a counter (with queller, both of these are the same).

The most interesting creature choices here are:
