The creature becomes a 0/2 and then the counter is applied effectively making it a 0/1. If a creature were to have 2 -1/-1 counters on it, and you used Sudden Spoiling then it would die straight away.You might like Contagion Clasp in here as well

Persist is really good with Melira, Sylvok Outcast . There are lots of infinite combos that start with Melira+Any Persist Creature+Free Sac Engine. Birthing Pod decks also use this combo to their advantage.

Thanks for commenting, K8ARO. Even though I agree on what you are saying, there are couple of points why I'm not taking that route with this deck: main reason being, I have constructed this deck for our casual gaming sessions. We play with our "gentleman rules", meaning: no infinite loops, no infect and no poisonous. I'm actually already breaking the second rule but that's only because we have stated that any "permanent with infect" is in our games treated as "permanent with wither". This, of course is something you couldn't know and it was my mistake that I didn't add the information to the description. I'll be doing just that after commenting.

Second reason: even though persist could definitely be an option for this deck, I would rather stay on my theme. There is already Rendclaw Trow in this deck but for the moment I don't see reason to add more persist creatures. That said, Birthing Pod would be nice but doesn't work that well with this build.

How about Blowfly Infestation , since your creatures can't have -1 counters put on them, once you've established counters on an opponents creature once it's dies they'll go pinging round the rest of their creatures?

Sounds good, I have a mono black version but making it Golgari with Melira is tempting.:) I feel as some cards could be cut from this and maybe add some skinrenders, fume spitters. :)
