So it was almost 6 years ago to the day that I began playing Magic the Gathering. My first commander was Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest. In fact, I posted the decklist Putrid Decay under my old account LandCracker616. Fast-forward to the present, and here we are in the middle of a pandemic. And what better way to celebrate my 6-year anniversary with an update of my first deck!

Unlike my original brew, this list isn't strictly focused on infect. There are still some nasty surprises in the deck, but the deck does a better job of embracing sacrificing woodland critters for the greater good. Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest is capable of quickly beefing up a wide board into swole threats.

This deck will go virtually nowhere unless we are sacrificing permanents. Yes we will get triggers from our opponents cracking fetch lands, sacrificing Wayfarer's Baubles, etc but we can't solely rely on our opponents for value. That is why there are cards to generate Treasure and Eldrazi Scion tokens. This tokens come with the ability to sacrifice themselves, meaning quick guaranteed triggers. Plus, they give us mana that can help us drop virus bombs. Pitiless Plunderer and Awakening Zone help create these tokens, plus the Plunderer is great because he triggers off of us sacrificing any creatures (token or nontoken). While efficient, these aren't the only tokens we are running. After all, we do want to quickly assemble a large army of beef cakes. Creakwood Liege not only acts as a lord for our creatures, but also creates Worms that we can pump with +1/+1 counters. Likewise, Tendershoot Dryad can quickly fill our board with Saprolings.
We are running quite a few cards that are meant to not just synergize with the sacrifice theme, but also negatively impact our opponents. Sadistic Hypnotist is a great sacrifice outlet who can quickly make it impossible for our opponents to keep a hand of cards. Dictate of Erebos will quickly clear out our opponents' boards, and when combined with Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet can leave their boards empty even faster. Butcher of Malakir will help with this as well. An underrated card in the deck is Gluttonous Troll. Not only does this creature generate a type of token that can be sacrificed, but he acts as a sacrifice outlet as well and comes with trample.
And now the fun part... infect. This deck just wouldn't be nasty without a few infect cards to quickly close out a game. Glistening Oil can give any of our creatures infect, although it comes with the downside of steadily killing our creature with -1/-1 counters. This can be rendered irrelevant by the fact that our commander will be giving our creatures +1/+1 counters, neutralizing this drawback. Our big infect finishers are Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon and Triumph of the Hordes. We can quickly make Skittles into a hasty, finishing threat while Triumph of the Hordes will make our hordes of tokens very infectious. Plague Stinger may be small, but is still a good include who comes with evasion and can hit our opponents for infect damage.
