I'm Blue Da Ba De Da Ba Tron

Modern Control Mono-Blue Tron

Sideboard

Look. I love going 1-2-7 and throwing out big colorless spells. But I just haven't been getting there with classic Green Tron. Moving into Blue Tron was cheap for me and I figured that if I was losing at the LGS I couldn't lose harder so why not? But it turns out that Blue Tron is... kind of good. Condescend, Repeal, Remand, and Spatial Contortion can line up well against the format. Not only do they line up well, the card draw and scry mean you keep advancing your plan instead of spending a one-for-one. It's okay to assemble Tron on turn 5 or 6 because you can interact and you still have very powerful proactive threats. And you get to play extremely powerful board wipes in the form of All Is Dust, Oblivion Stone, and Ugin, the Spirit Dragon.

Bucket list:

Blow up five lands with Sundering Titan: DONE.

It was great. My Titan opponent had a slow-ish hand and played Dryad of the Ilysian Grove. I slammed down the Sundering Titan on my next turn and hit each of their lands. The game ended there.

Mindslaver Lock someone: DONE. Also, in case anyone doesn't understand the lock, once you have the mana enough to cast and activate Mindslaver and activate Academy Ruins every turn to put Mindslaver on top of your library, you aren't going to deck out (You're putting Mindslaver on top of your deck in your upkeep) ever while your opponent will. Similar to using Teferi, Hero of Dominaria. However don't be afraid to go for a "value" Mindslaver, sometimes forcing your opponent to skip their turn or make all bad decisions (use removal spells on their own creatures, cast their spells into your counterspells, attack into Wurmcoil Engine, float their mana and pass turn) can buy you time.

Get someone with Whirlwind Denial: TO DO.

Round 1: 2-0 vs. UR Gifts Storm.

Game 1 my opponent went for an Empty the Warrens just before I assembled Tron and cast Ugin. Game 2 they did not expect me to have Relic of Progenitus in my deck and hit me with Gifts Ungiven when I tapped out at the end of their turn. I put Past in Flamesfoil and an Empty the Warrens in their yard, then got the Relic off of Urza's Saga and immediately activated it. Saga pretty much won that game singlehandedly (admittedly because they didn't know I never leave home without at least one Relic in my main).

Round 2: 2-1 vs. Simic Urza Tokens.

Opponent had Urza, Lord High Artificerfoil, Academy Manufactor, Tireless Tracker, and other artifact-token making cards to try to value people out. Game 1 I lost thanks to having an All is Dust in hand that would do jack against the Karnstructs. Games 2 and 3 I managed to get there, eventually Mindslaver locking my opponent out.

Round 3: 2-1 vs. Grixis Kitchen.

You know what's good against Kitchen decks? Karn, the Great Creator and Oblivion Stone. With those I was able to work a win out in the games, although it was definitely close. I was lucky my opponent didn't have more copies of Kolaghan's Command.

Round 4: 2-0 vs. Boros Burn.

Realistically, I should have lost this round. My opponent was new to Modern and unfamiliar with Tron in general and Blue Tron in particular and played far too cautiously. I tried to coach them on some things that they had missed and where they should have been more aggressive. Still I nearly lost just to 7 burn spells at my face in one game and had to play too cautiously myself to leave up Condescend mana.
