The prerelease was good, wasn't it?

This is actually a pretty awesome deck! Extort and Scavenge don't really synergize but the Extorting flyers should go great with the Golgari mechanic in a casual environment!

I'd cut a copy of Holy Mantle (but only one copy because it's just that good) and pop in one more Kingpin's Pet ; you'll want as many of those flyers as you can get. OR put in a Deadbridge Goliath if you can fit one!

The pre-release was amazingly fun :) Sad that Boros won in two fucking rounds Dx But, I was told I pulled all the good stuff for Limited, and my deck did pretty good. What games I didn't win came really close.

I think Scavenge does cause it takes the weak Extort creatures and makes them stronger, so now they can be used for attacking and defending as well as extorting.

That doesn't sound bad and I will think about the change

Debt to the Deathless can't say how good it is in standard constructed play, but it served me well at the prerelease.

also Ready / Willing is a must for Junk/Morglen

Ready / Willing is already here. Debt to the Deathless might find a way in here.

I might try your deck but I will run Lotleth Troll instead, and one more Putrefy

Okay. Tell me how that works out for you.

You could try adding value creatures for Varolz to chomp on, like Alms Beast , Desecration Demon , and Deadbridge Goliath . They're also just generally fun creatures to play.

I never really liked Alms Beast , and Desecration Demon has done me no good in the past. Deadbridge Goliath is alright but then it takes away from my Immortal Servitude reanimation.

That depends on what you're putting in your graveyard, but if your really want to go the route of Immortal Servitude , why not throw in Cartel Aristocrat ? Sacrifice a creature to the Aristocrat for protection, then scavenge onto the Aristocrat to make it an even bigger unblockable creature.

May 14, 2013 1:54 p.m.

Because if I give it pro white/black/green then I can't scavenge onto it. The Immortal Servitude was honestly a mistake throw in. It was a filler card for the deck irl, but upon realizing how many 2-3 drops I had, fits perfectly well. Cartel Aristocrat has no extort or scavenge, so it is still prone to death. Sacrificing my Extort creatures isn't good to save one card with no other abilities. At least Varolz is worth saving.

Seems fun, and you say you have tried running it at fnm or no? It seems viable to work, and it is well built for such the low budget.

not enough gaseous forms or fogs for the theme :( (the song is written after a movie they saw that had a gas kill people and was creeping around). Other than that, looks like some fun.

June 13, 2013 3:20 p.m.

@zandl: I can assure you, using them since their release, the gates DO work. I've been using them in this deck cause I can't afford the bundles of shocks and duals, and they have been lifesavers. Any dual is better than no duals right?

@JakeSlytherclaw7: This particular build no. Past builds where the deck was based around Varolz and scavenge plus extort yes. When I saw the potential Spider Spawning had with Immortal Servitude I made many changes to the deck, and tomorrow we'll see how it does.

@gufymike: The deck was originally meant to use Scavenge and extort for a slow death, which you could say is creeping up on the opponent. That is why I chose it. The songs won't always match the deck in the sense of what they are about, but how the lyrics go. Also thanks :D

Ah i see, be sure to let us know im interested to see how it'll work.

June 13, 2013 3:34 p.m.

I will :) I've loved this deck, and playing against my friend put 22 1/2 Spiders into play in one turn :D

What's your local meta like? Also, a staple sideboard with things like Pithing Needle and stuff couldn't hurt, if you've not idea what to put in your sideboard.

Gnaw to the Bone might be nice, if you've got a slower deck than most people at your local card shop, if not, then maybe a sideboard card if someone drops some Aggro.

June 13, 2013 3:41 p.m.

I originally thought Gnaw to the Bone would be beneficial in this deck, but between all the extort triggers and the Blood Artist s, I will be gaining enough life. Also Tithe Drinker has lifelink so that helps. Lastly, I put Ready / Willing in the sideboard to help in case board wipes become a problem, or for some extra life should extort not be enough.

If I WERE to add it in, what should I remove?

I would honestly cut Debt to the Deathless because I see it being dead more, times than anyway as that amount of mana it takes to make it good, you could end up dead before then.
Tragic Slip would be good removal here as with Cartel Aristocrat , you can almost always get the morbid effect, to kill anything your opponent can throw on the board. And on top that its cheap, so you can use more extort triggers in the early-mid game.

June 14, 2013 3:51 p.m.

Debt to the Deathless acts as a finisher. It saved me a couple games tonight, even if I did go 0-2 before dropping. It is what saveeees me should my life get low, what ends a game against a matchup I hate, and best of all, it is fun to see the look when you cast it for the win. I won a game casting it for 3 = X so it is good as a late game ender.

As good as it may seem, I'd prefer not to add it. I don't really wanna take out any creatures for noncreatures, and on top of this the stuff I have already helps the deck.

gufymike, I don't want to sound mean, but that song was actually written based on the old Exodus-based movie, The Ten Commandments. It was also Cliff's idea. The whole thing about the ten plagues?

so first you do Symphony of Destruction and now this? hell yeah.
