My current variation on Simic Evolve/counter system. I have changed it from it's original format of straight evolve into a counter based system utilizing Master Biomancer, Bow of Nylea, and Kalonian Hydra. I am still in need of a few more cards to finish this deck of, and then I need to fix my sideboard and make it useful, and i will have finally completed my simic deck.
Style: Fast paced mid-ranged
Wincon: Large creatures with trample
Card Explanation;
Creatures -
Elvish Mystic - Best one drop so far. (he replaced Cloudfin Raptor needed the mana over a creature that got shocked on turn 1.
Sylvan Caryatid - An M.V.P. in this deck, 0/3 hexproof-mana-fixing-defender. +1 for him.
Burning-Tree Emissary - Now, I am not doing a green devotion deck, but, before I had this card, I had to wait about 6 turns to play a creature out. now, I can turn 2 a Kalonian Hydra. +10
Reverent Hunter - I know I just said I didn't run a green devotion deck, but I find that in my current setup, he is one of the most solid 3-drops I can use. He is on average a 5/5 when played out. I am pretty happy with him.
Master Biomancer - I was quite happy when I finally got a playset of these dudes. Back when I was a straight up evolve deck, he helped me get some board presence faster. I cant get rid of him just yet. He makes a nice 4-drop due to his 2/4, and the fact that he buffs every creature that comes out after him is highly valuable in here.
Polukranos, World Eater - A card I am still unsure about, he is good and bad at times, he is a great 4 drop, being able to survive a Mizzium Mortars. And he makes for a great field clearer, and I imagine now with Kruphix, God of Horizons he can be played more so than now, but i've always been so-so on him due to no trample. But otherwise a great card.
Nylea, God of the Hunt - one of the best cards in my deck. Gives everything trampleCrowned Ceratok was replaced by her naturally) Indestructable, allows me to freely swing with her, saving my smaller creatures the pain and agony of seppuku. And I have used her active ability many times to save creatures/win games.
Kalonian Hydra - IF you haven't figured it out yet, or didn't read above, this deck is a +1/+1 counter based system, so, whenever he attacks, i can double the amount of counters on all creatures. So, I immediately wanted this card, and I haven't regretted it yet.
Prophet of Kruphix - Another one of the strongest cards in here, with it's only flaw being a 3 toughness, but with a few Master Biomancers out, that no longer becomes a problem. The ability to untap everything(not you Bow of Nylea) you are open to so many possibilities and plays.
Prime Speaker Zegana - the most expensive creature card in my deck, large mana cost, low power/toughness. When I first pulled this back in gatecrash, i was let down by it. I tossed it in my trade binder and didn't think about it for a long time. IT wasn't until I was getting this deck going, that I realized how much draw power I was lacking, so, I eventually stumbled upon her, re-read her ability, and was ecstatic. I can flash her out on the end of an opponents turn, draw a nice amount of cards, and have a nice strong creature and a handful of cards thanks to her, but her draw back is her mana cost. still a great creature in here.
Instants:
Plasm Capture - a great counter spell, a huge mana fixer, a laugh in the face of an opponent kind of card. so underused, under-rated, under-appreciated. The benefit of it's reward is great, with the downside being it's mana cost.
Simic Charm - by far one of the greater cards in here, a simple 2 drop spell, with so many uses. Saves my prophet from a Detention Sphere. buff's my Reverent Hunter, bounces the 15/15 Worldspine Wurm my opponent has. Key card in here for sure.
Cyclonic Rift - another great card in here, it has won me countless games with it's overload. people scoop and quit, i've had some one throw the deck on the table, and walk away from an overload of this card.
Enchantments;
Bred for the Hunt - a card I am on edge about, it makes for a good 3 drop. Combine it with Nylea, and have have a good draw power, IF I have the creatures to do it wih. otherwise it isn't too great of a card.
Bow of Nylea - another great card. Deathtouch for attackers, I can place a +1/+1 on Master Biomancer. I can heal that damage from Boros Reckoner. I can kill off your Nightveil Specter. I can place my Mistcutter Hydra back into my deck. So many uses, I love variety with cards, opens up a lot of possibilities.
Other;
Garruk, Caller of Beasts - If you ignore the cost(not too high in a mono green ramp) it is the machine that pushes my deck to victory. I can draw so many creatures, flash the out, swing out and untap with Prophet of Kruphix. Or, I can get out a Kalonian Hydra for free, which gives me a nice amount of devotion. +2
Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx - best ramp card in my deck, allows for a turn 2 garruk is needed. I am quite happy with this card, it's a keeper!
Sideboard;
Spell Rupture - I get huge creatures, and I was having problems controlling the board second games. I saw this card, it's mana cost, and immediately tossed it in here. Best counterspell for this deck in standard, but I would rather have the mana fix from Plasm Capture.
Curse of the Swine - sill experimenting with this one, it's meant to be used with gods, indestructables, and overall large creatures, but it hasn't seen much use.
Witchstalker - meant for my LGS meta, which has a heavy blue/black right now, so, naturally it was destined for here. Hexproof, 3/3.
Scavenging Ooze for the weenie decks/control decks. I can exile their/my cards, gain life, and counters.
Plasm Capture refer to above. I have 2 in sideboard depending on how I feel about it when I play.
Mistcutter Hydra - the bane of MUD and any deck using blue. Allowing me to free hit them with no regret. Best sideboard card for sure.
