Introduction

This is a community collaborative cEDH list.

Heliod, Sun-Crowned is the rare instance where a mono-white commander is viable in a Cedh pod. The deck boasts 2 one-card win conditions with Walking Ballista and Triskelion.

The deck's goal is to lay down pressure with staxy creatures to prevent quick wins from our opponents. No one expects the mono-white deck to perform well into a competitive pod. Time to show the true power of the weakest color in EDH.

How to Combo

The setup: You need to have Heliod, Sun-Crowned on the battlefield, Walking Ballista in hand, and

1. Cast Walking Ballista for .
2. Pay targeting the Walking Ballista
3. Activate its ability to ping someone at the table for 1 damage. This one damage will also heal you for 1 because you gave the creature lifelink.
4. Heliod, Sun-Crowned's triggered ability will see that you gained 1 life and ask you to place a +1/+1 counter on a creature. Place this +1/+1 counter on your Walking Ballista.
5. Repeatedly ping everyone at the table until they are all dead.
6. Win the game :)

This combo works the same way with Triskelion, it just costs more mana.

Notable Inclusions

• Alseid of Life's Bounty: This is another Mother of Runes effect that can also cheapen the cost of the combo due to the lifelink on it. Mostly useful to protect our win cons or hate pieces and can be used to increase our clock.

• Angel's Grace/Gideon of the Trials: Both keep us alive from Thassa's Oracle wins and similar wincons. Both are needed due to oracle’s dominance in cEDH since release, and Angel’s Grace having split second removes most chances of interaction.

• Heliod's Intervention: Instant speed removal that lets us get rid of multiple targets at one time without the restriction of Return to Dust, and has an alright life gain option that can get you out of a hole. Though the destroy x artifacts and/or enchantments have been more useful.

• High Market: This is useful tech to get rid of our own hate pieces when we need them to be gone, such as Hushbringer, Eidolon of Rhetoric, and Ethersworn Canonist. The life gain is an upside in addition to removing troublesome hate pieces that prevent our combo from going off that turn.

• Juntu Stakes: Due to the nature of mono white not having a lot of ramp, this card allows us to slow down our opponents mana dorks while allowing us to somewhat break parity with Heliod’s +1/+1 ability.

• Salvage Scout: Scout is a second creature option for Ranger of Eos as it allows us to recur our Walking Ballista if we expect removal or counterspells. This can also get back either outlets if we top deck it with either in the graveyard.

Notable Exclusions

• Skullclamp: This card is too much of a build around and ultimately makes your deck worse. The creatures with one toughness we almost always want to keep around and not sacrifice for two cards.

• Dawn of Hope: This card requires you to play bad life gain cards and is ultimately too slow. Also, this deck isn’t a life gain deck, rather it seeks to slow down its opponents and combo off. Adding this card would not only decrease our card quality but incentivize people to play other bad cards to synergize with it.

• Open the Armory, Stoneforge Mystic and Steelshaper's Gift: Mask of Memory is one of the best draw engines in the deck so playing these might seem worth it, but tutors that don't tutor for Walking Ballista aren't worth it in this deck. We also just aren’t running enough equipment to play it.

• Winter Orb, Static Orb: We have no real way to break paruty on these stax pieces and they will probably just hurt us more than help us.

• Mana Tithe: This card is really only useful on turn one after that people usually have the mana to pay for it.

• Soul Warden, Soul's Attendant: We are not a lifegain deck, if a card is good and also gives us lifegain we will play it. With one exception of Serra Ascendant, all of our cards that gain us life also do something.
