I always played B/G/x. Sometimes BG, sometimes BGW, sometimes BGR. Rarely even BUG.

Why only one stirring Wildwood and no tree top village?
March 3, 2015 6:16 p.m.
Can't fit it in. The basics and duals are more important because they're fetchable. The only potential switch would be Twilight Mire but I'd prefer to guarantee fixing than a little board presence. Especially in the latest decks which are a little heavier on creatures than they used to be what with rhino, tax, lingering souls etc.

this helped me a lot with my sideboard tech.. thanks for this very good list!

How good is the one-of Leyline of Sanctity? Seems like if you're packing it in the side you may as well run two or three if you want it out early.
March 9, 2015 6:29 a.m.
My thinking is that I don't want to clog the deck up with a card that's either in my opening hand and amazing or not in my opening hand and utterly useless. I realise that by running more I increase my chance of having it in my opening hand but in this case I preferred to cut my losses rather than invest further. Therefore I diversified my sideboard hate instead of going all in on one card type.
Against burn I use:
I like this setup because it gives me things to do on T2, T3, and T4 which is actually really nice. Essentially it means that I get a nicer curve.
I get to use cards that are not only useful against burn / 8rack but also other matchups. Timely Reinforcements for example is pretty good against affinity and other aggro decks. Leyline of Sanctity on the other hand is something I'd only use against burn and 8rack. Feed the Clan is also a narrow card (but worth inclusion because it has nice synergy with goyf / rhino / taz).
Finally, I get to combat burn decks that have enchantment hate. I run sorceries, instants AND enchantments. This makes me stronger against Destructive Revelry decks which I believe may come into fashion due to Atarka's Command. There's nothing burn can do against Feed the Clan or Timely Reinforcements, but there is against Leyline of Sanctity.
Diversification is really useful, basically.

Yea, I see where you're coming from. Enchantment hate is something Burn has been packing for a long time now and side in every g2 and g3 against any deck with white, and I agree with not solely relying on the Leyline to protect you. Atarka's Command will be a problem for every deck now though since it bypasses the Leyline and stops Feed the Clan and Timely Reinforcements, but it seems like if Burn is killing you instead of your 10 Goyfs then your clock could be faster than theirs.

Sure upping the number of Skullcrack type effects is annoying but you know I am running in total:
4 Siege Rhino, 2 Kitchen Finks 3 Scavenging Ooze (debatable as to whether its useful), 1 Feed the Clan, 1 Timely Reinforcements, 1 Leyline of Sanctity.
My minimum guaranteed lifegain if I hit all those cards is 12 for the rhinos, 4 for the finks, 5 from the clan, 6 from reinforcements. Granting a total of 27.
March 9, 2015 6:57 a.m.
I mean, I just try to make sure there's adequate amounts of cards that combat it, basically.
March 9, 2015 8:16 a.m.
Why the singleton dismember over a singleton slaughter pact? Slaughter pact has ridiculous blowout potential against twin and any other creature based combo deck as well as being an extremely efficient kill spell.
March 10, 2015 4:53 p.m.
We don't run enough creatures here to enable him. It's also a bad idea to run vengevine in any deck that's not graveyard focused because a 4 mana creature with 3 toughness is really awful. He therefore works best with things like Gravecrawler etc.

So, manabase;
4 Verdant Catacombs, 3 Marsh Flats, 1 Windswept Heath
2 Overgrown Tomb, 1 Temple Garden, 1 Godless Shrine
3 Treetop Village, 1 Stirring Wildwood, 1 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, 2 Tectonic Edge, 1 Twilight Mire
I might also consider cutting something (likely a Village) for the ninth fetchland. You currently have too many shocklands and not enough manlands.
March 14, 2015 4:47 p.m.
This deck absolutely, 100% does not have too few manlands. I do not wish to run 4 lands that come in tapped alongside 2 that only tap for colourless. This can have devastating effects on my early game. I've tried it before and it was problematic.
I'm tempted to cut a shock and up the basic count slightly.

Perhaps cut a Treetop or two for additional filter lands. One manland is definitely not enough, especially considering Wildwood is worse than Treetop.

Trample is very good in the mirror (when you would attack with a manland, Treetop beats Souls), and Wildwood is harder to activate.
