Imoti and the Dino Hippo--Explosive Fatties

Commander / EDH* Cascade Convoke GU (Simic)

Maybeboard

Instant (1)

The idea of this deck is to explode. It ramps into Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty and hopefully never stops cascading. May 24, 2023, played inaugural game and flooded the board in a 1 v 1 casual matchup. Mind's Desire, with a storm count of five, on a Karn's Temporal Sundering extra turn turned up Beanstalk Giant and more, at least one more of those free spells cascaded.

The companion Keruga, the Macrosage can get Palinchron if Wild Pair is in play. Of course, Palinchron goes infinite if we have a mana doubler, i.e. Heartbeat of Spring or Dictate of Karametra in play. That set up with Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty out allows us to cast our entire deck.

Imoti decks aim to leverage Imoti's cascade ability to cast high-cost creatures for free and overwhelm your opponents with their powerful effects. The companion, Keruga, the Macrosage, imposes the restriction of only including cards with a converted mana cost of 3 or greater in your deck.

Basic strategy guide

Early Game:

Mulligan for hands with ramp spells such as Kodama's Reach or Cultivate to accelerate your mana and set up for bigger plays.

Mid Game:

Cast Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty turn four, and turn five start casting your high-cost creatures and spells with mana value 6 or higher to maximize their impact to take advantage of Imoti's cascade trigger.

Mind's Desire can CAST big spells to trigger Imoti's cascade effect, allowing you to cast multiple spells in a single turn, i.e. go off! Cards like Rhystic Study plus budget friendly Dig Through Time, and Treasure Cruise generate card advantage and maintain a steady flow of spells.

Creature Synergy:

Leverage the abilities of your creatures to gain advantage and disrupt opponents. For example: Hornet Queen generates an army of flying deathtouch creatures. Diluvian Primordial and Chancellor of the Spires let you cast spells from your opponents' graveyards, hopefully sorceries or instants that cost 6+ mana :-) Sphinx of Uthuun provides card draw. Look for opportunities to create powerful combinations with Wild Pair. Lurking Predators also rewards you for having big creatures in the deck. Interaction and Protection:

Use countermagic like Artistic Refusal and Overwhelming Intellect to counter spells that threaten your game plan but understand, they are mostly card draw spells! As the game progresses, aim to establish a dominant board presence with your powerful creatures. Cards like Impervious Greatwurm , Ghalta, Primal Hunger, and Thrasta, Tempest's Roar can quickly become threats that are hard for opponents to deal with.

Late Game:

Tidespout Tyrant and Supplant Form can deal with problematic permanents on the battlefield or you can protect your own creatures by using their bounce effects, allowing you to save them from removal or reset their enter-the-battlefield triggers.

Use your bigger creatures to control the board and apply pressure to opponents. Take advantage of their abilities, such as generating tokens with Rampaging Baloths.

Adaptability:

Assess the game state and adapt your strategy accordingly. If the board becomes crowded, consider board wipes like Coastal Breach to reset the battlefield and gain an advantage. Utilize the versatility of your card choices to respond to various threats and interact with your opponents effectively.

Have Palinchron and either Heartbeat of Spring or Dictate of Karametra on the battlefield to generate infinite mana and infinite Imoti cascade triggers.

Cast Palinchron by paying its mana cost of seven mana.

When Palinchron enters the battlefield, its ability triggers, allowing you to untap up to seven lands you control.

Use the untapped lands to generate 14 mana. Bouncing and recasting Palinchron costs 11 mana.

With the infinite mana, execute the following game-winning sequence:

Each time you cast Palinchron, you trigger Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty's cascade ability. Cascade allows you to cast the next nonland card of your library with a mana value less than or equal to Palinchron's mana value for free, so you can cast every spell of six mana value or less.

This includes Karn's Temporal Sundering which allows you to take an extra turn after the current one, enough to secure victory.
