I think I might like some vampire nighthawks instead of messenger though. But that's just my personal preference

I don't blame you, he's hard as hell. It almost seems as though Wizards has blessed us with 2 different Golgari archetypes:

1: Golgari aggro, w/ essentially what you see here.

2: Golgari control, w/ Vraska the Unseen , Champion of Lambholt , Vampire Nighthawk , Mutilate , Duress , Farseek , card:Ranger's Path, Overgrown Tomb and Liliana of the Dark Realms .

New deck idea, maybe?

Also, has anyone thought about synergy in scavenge w/ Primordial Hydra , Corpsejack Menace , and Sheltering Word ? Potentially gaining 100 life late game??

Love the new build. I'm working on something very similar and play testing has taught me that you do not need 23 lands. I'm running 21 and have never been short for mana. With your most expensive cards being 4cmc it is really easy to play. This would free up 2 more card slots for another copy of Abrupt Decay , Tragic Slip and/or Rancor . I'm also looking at Champion of Lambholt for the stupid amounts of counters that can be put on her. I've decided that I won't post my new deck idea until all the cards have been spoiled b/c I'm tired of editing it. But I'll let you know when I do.

Sounds good buddy. What you should consider is scavenging Champion of Lambholt can make way for assassin tokens from Vraska the Unseen , which is a neat little idea methinks.

Oh yeah Champion and Vraska synergy is through the roof come to think of it.

In order to maintain equilibrium in my mana circle, I require 2 one-drop green cards. As of right now, I have 2 copies of Hunger of the Howlpack . Would anyone recommend something else, more practical? Rancor , Snare the Skies , or Abundant Growth ?

Let me know, the build's almost ready!

I think I would go with rancor. You aren't worried about your creatures dying so the lack of toughness is negligible, and you get to return it to your hand when you sac the creature. Sounds like a win/win in this deck IMO. Rancor on slitherhead, attack, slitherhead dies/gets saced, blood artist damage, scavenge slitherhead onto say the troll, discard a grave crawler then play it from graveyard, play rancor on troll. All for just two mana. Should leave you one black left over for the regenerate

I'm a little bitch who does what he's told. So, Rancor it is.

honest opinions i think this should be a voltron deck. of course staring lotleth. you shuold have your removal, grave crawler is a good addition. some artifact removal and hexproof. because again this card makes voltron easy in standard.

Lustrigia says... #12

Sans hexproof, it's pretty much the same idea, lol. I like Golgari because I can sideboard tons of hybrid goodies like Aerial Predation and Dryad Militant .

I would sever your bloodline so hard

Rest in Peace .

Now you only have 2 cards main-board that can keep you from losing the game.

And you better believe it's going to be main-boarded (and then added to from the sideboard).

You need to run Golgari Charm . It was almost built to help you counter Rest in Peace .

September 25, 2012 9:59 p.m.

Lustrigia says... #15

Yeah but I mean like Abrupt Decay tho Umad /thread.

But yeah it will be sideboarded, at best. How Golgari has the "best" charm but rakdos has the "worst" is 100% unjustified.

zandl says... #16

I think Rakdos Charm is very underrated, albeit more of a side-board card. But when you look at it, it takes the place of Smelt , card:Tormod's Crypt (arguably so), and can even kill someone who's piloting a token-swarming deck.

Golgari Charm is a very good card. Don't underestimate it.

I like it, +1. You might consider Desecration Demon for a big mean guy and Shrieking Affliction to go with card:Rakdos's Return. As for sideboard here it is: 2x card:Tormod's Crypt, 4x Sever the Bloodline , 3x Murder , 4x Dispel , and 2x Cremate . The card:Tormod's Crypt and Cremate against zombies, Golgari, and flashback. Sever the Bloodline against problematic creatures i. e. Guttersnipe and Tokens. Murder against problem creatures (Guildmages, Guttersnipe again, Champion of the Parish ) and Dispel against decks that utilize lots of instants, like Izzet or control.

Very nice! similar to one I'm making for the sideboard it depends on what you expect to play but I'd suggest:

Duress X 3 for control

Negate X3 again control

Tribute to hunger X2 for fast aggro decks or burn/ hexproof guys

sever the bloodline X3 wipes tokens and is genreally great

Cyclonic rift X2 to deal with enchantments and gain massive tempo advantage (great with rakdos return)

That's my 2 cents at least

1 too many land. I would consider Delver of Secrets  Flip as an added beater, given the instants and sorceries you have.

Playtested this against Ugly Schtick. Interesting games!!!

I'd add at least one Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker . Have you ever used him? Half the time you cast him, your opponent just scoops.

November 4, 2012 11:51 a.m.

Lustrigia says... #21

Believe me, I've thought about it. And I might run some tests in the near future. But for now my goal is to try and keep placing at our local FNM. Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker doesn't seem that reliable in here.

But alas, I should be more open minded. I'll playtest with 1, and keep you posted on how it runs.

November 4, 2012 1:31 p.m.

AirlockFart says... #22

The biggest problem with Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker is his cost to play. He costs 8 cmc which is, in my opinion, outrageous! He is quite powerful though... I wouldn't run more than 1 if I were you because he's either the centerpiece in the deck or he becomes a "more winning" card. Your case is the later.

November 4, 2012 1:40 p.m.

zandl says... #23

With 25 lands and more than enough stalling power, Nicol Bolas should really only be helping you. That, and he's a win-condition by himself. He comes out, goes to 8 Loyalty, and blows up a card:Runechanter's Pike, any land, Oblivion Ring , Detention Sphere , Staff of Nin , any Planeswalker, etc., and then just wins in two turns. OR, he comes out and steals your opponent's best creature indefinitely.

November 4, 2012 1:42 p.m.

AirlockFart says... #24

The land count isn't the matter, the speed is. With no ramp (this deck hasn't any because green does that) he's a turn 8 at best, and god help you at worst. Before turn 8 your wasting all of your hand and spells to get to a win condition that may or may not actually show up. It's a good thought to add him, but it's very risky to rely on him in this deck. I agree that he should be in here, but only 1 of him to either win more or save your butt late game.

I'm almost thinking one Jace, Architect of Thought should be coming out for him. 9 walkers is really pushing it lol. What do you guys think?
