Llanowar Mentor isn't that spectacular actually, because most elf decks run 21~22 lands at the most, and are generally at 18~19. You don't draw too many lands, and mentor feeds off you topdecking horrible cards. I wouldn't add it as it is quite slow

also, what would you suggest i cut? I currently have little room, and I'm planning on adding more Shaman of the pack as well as chord of calling

You need Overgrown Tomb and Verdant Catacombs. Both would imrpove the decks consistency and the fetches would thin it out a little to help when top decking. I know they are expensive but I can attest they will both make a world difference.

they only make minor differences. Verdant Catacombs is definitely a no, it makes no sense to choose a 50 dollar land when you can just run Windswept Heath.

I also don't see how a 10 dollar card is considered 'expensive' right next to a card that is 5 times more expensive to it. Running Windswept heath is better unless you actually need to be able to search out a swamp.

Since I run 19 lands, I generally get mana screwed. If I were to add fetch, I would either have to go up to 21 lands (which means cutting some creatures). That slightly increases chances for other cards, but the cards which have to be cut have dramatically decreased chances of being drawn. You are right that they do slightly boost consistency, but I disagree on making a 'world difference'.

This deck looks pretty solid, so +1 from me. What are your thoughts of not including Thoughtseize in the sideboard. Would be pretty useful to pry out questionable threats and take which is more dangerous.

July 26, 2017 1:35 a.m.

you are right about that, thanks! I'll toss in an inquisition, as it is a lot cheaper, and can target a lot of annoying spells by itself. I'll make the switch to thoughtseize once i have money to spend on this deck again.

You are indeed welcome. I mean, some one copy of either Inquisition of Kozilek or Thoughtseize would suffice since you are not so heavily on black. And gaining that intel turn one or two benefit you how you would play the game throughout the course. Other than that, when you get to it, Verdant Catacombs may be something on your radar when you get that extra cash.

I think i'll stick with windswept heath for now, unless i find a reason where I would need to search for a swamp, right now, my only targets are my overgrown tomb and forest

Ah, gotcha. Especially since Elves is a linear synergic deck - that too many fetches would be rather a deficit than an asset. I get what you are getting at here. Still, I think a deck like this perfect as it is now. Has anyone suggest Nissa, Vastwood Seer  Flip? If so, do you think that it is a card worth play-testing - or is it more of a liability?

hjaycee i had play elves as well, a pretty similar list and i can tell you after playtesting, more often than not, youre game is gonna be over 1 way or the either buy the time you can accumulate enough lands to flip Nissa, Vastwood Seer  Flip. You could put her in as a flavor add, but there are better 3 drops out there.

i have 3 of them from standard. they're slow in modern, especially since games end fast enough, that drawing one is basically getting a vanilla 2/2 and a land in hand for 3

Hi there! What do you think about the new cards Shaper's Sanctuary and Growing Rites of Itlimoc ? Could be great additions for your tribal deck

September 28, 2017 11:56 a.m.

Jamirostyle:

Growing Rites of Itlimoc will probably be added, 3 mana get a creature (from looking at the top 4 cards), and then later on easily flipping into a gaea's cradle is nice.

shapers' sanctuary seems nice, but it seems to only be good if my opponent will be casting multiple spells that target creatures. It could draw a lot of cards, but in some games, it might not draw any at all.

Since you mentioned going for the Devoted-Vizier combo, thought you might like to see my Abzan Elves list. I'd hate to see Shaman taken out of an Elves list, I think it's too good. Abzan Elves

thanks! I'll definitely take a look at your list, the main thing keeping me from adding in more white was the money spent on lands and Devoted Druid's. I might be able to trade some extra moon's for those soon, I'll be considering that. In what matchups do you usually use Selfless Spirit? I may want to try those out.

Selfless Spirit is a bit of recent addition recommended by a friend who has played elves for a long time. I like to bring it in to help against board wipes that I can't Regen against like Wrath of God and Damnation. And the fact that it is a creature allows you to hit it off CoCo or Chord instead of not having something like Heroic Intervention which you won't always have and can't really tutor for in elves. Essentially filling my sideboard with creature cards that do the work of instants/sorceries for that same reason.
